#92409 Star Trek 4 (14)

I don't see anything involving Abrams as ever being real Trek. Will take some real convincing to get me to see another Trek film set in the Kelvin universe.

Show their true colors? You mean being a conservative? No, I am not a liberal. I am very old fashioned. Being old fashioned does not mean racist, and living below the Mason Dixon line does not equate to being a racist or homophobe. I don't want every show to look like it was made in the 1960's , but I want a Star Trek show to respect what came before and not seemingly just abandon the iconic look of Star Trek that's lasted 50 years. I want a faithful Star Trek show, but I am not going to accept just anything they come up with just to have a Star Trek show. You have to have standards, otherwise you have to accept anything. Sorry, not accepting Discovery. When they do better, they may get my money again.

#91975 The Orville

I've seen several episodes of Orville so far. It's a fine series, it's not Star Trek but it's closer than Discovery is. I will catch up with it when I have the time. I'm not making predictions about Orville. As a Star Trek fan I am not going to say I'm moving over to Orville. I don't know how many Star Trek fans watch it and don't claim that they will keep it from cancellation. It's just an entertaining show that reminds me of TNG, and that I wish I had more real TNG to watch.Orville is not a substitute for Star trek, and I want a real Star Trek series again.

Wow, what an ethical poll. You change the wording of the poll selections after people have voted already. Hillary Clinton would be proud of you i'm sure .

This show is so terrible they're renewing it for a second season:

A number of awful shows get renewed, Keeping up with the Kardashians is an example. Of course there are enough morons out there to keep that show alive so there are bound to be enough like that to keep discovery alive .

Yeah, she believes in Starfleet ideals alright, nerve pinch her Captain because she doesn't agree with her. Sorry but I'm not buying this BS.
Go ahead and enjoy this garbage all you want to, hopefully it won't last more than one season. I've watched the last episode I'm going to of this travesty. I don't expect to ever see real Star Trek again, Hollywood doesn't seem to make anything with a optimistic view of the future anymore.

Seen this one? The two part finale is next and then the show is sadly over.

I would rather watch this show any day over Discovery.

This show really feels like they are in the Mirror universe, they all seem so evil. Not impressed with Lorca , the discovery or the crew. They all seem like a bunch of dicks, not honorable Starfleet officers.

And here's me thinking you were tired of this conversation.

No one is forcing you to watch Star Trek. Sure ok you loved/still love some aspect of this 51 year old franchise but don't shit all over other people's Star Trek. Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't make it any less of a Star Trek series. Perhaps YOUR tastes have changed or perhaps they haven't changed at all but Star Trek has had to change because the world has changed.

Whatever the reason might be, the fact is YOU don't like this incarnation of Star Trek. Who fecking cares? Star Trek will im sure, go on without you and be just as Star trekky to millions of others.

Yes, I am tired of this discussion but i have to answer when I see posts like this. Once upon a time, people wanted to see shows and movies that transported them away from their reality, that made them dream that there could be something greater than there is now, that they could be greater than they are now. Reality sucks. If I want to see reality, I can turn on the news and see all of the Trump haters act like a bunch of spoiled brat crybabies , or mentally ill people demanding that any lifestyle choice they make be accepted as normal. I want to see a Star Trek show where people have matured out of their infancy, conquered racial prejudices, diseases, poverty and are unified in the federation and set out to explore strange new world's. Anything with the name Star Trek on it isn't good enough to carry on the legacy of Star trek. I wonder if this had been the first ever Star Trek show on Television, would there be fans 51 years from now asking for yet a new Star Trek series? If you exclude everything Star Trek that has come before and base your answer on just what you've seen so far in the 2 episodes of Discovery, I would say I doubt it.

I'm really tired of this conversation. If those of you that like this show choose to like it, then that's your prerogative. In many peoples opinion, if you accept subpar Star Trek just to get Star Trek, then you will likely never get anything better, so if your going to settle for this crap, have fun with it, I will just enjoy the older series and not support CBS anymore until they put out something worthy of the name Star Trek.

She has a part of Sareks Katra, not the entire thing like McCoy.

It doesnt contradict canon at all.

In your opinion.

From comments I've seen during this conversation we've had on this topic for some time now, I take it that you all think I'm closed minded and bitter but I'm not, just very passionate about Star Trek and it's impact on my life. I've said that I like streaming services, so I put the CBS app on my Xbox one and checked it out tonight. It's an okay app, and as I've said before, it suffers from no new original content but I'm going to try it out for a month. I watched several of the clips from Discovery and it does look like an interesting sci-fi show, and it looks like it could be a decent post Voyager Star Trek show, but it surely does not look like it belongs in the prime universe 10 years before Kirk and Spock. I'm going to watch on Sunday and see how it really is but the clips with scenes of Burnham and Michelle Yeoh's character actually look good but it just looks too futuristic for the time period it's set in.

Because youre wrong.

New Star Trek fans that came in by watching the Abrams movies have gone and watched older Trek and liked them.

They absolutely attracted new fans, just like Discovery will.

I'm not convinced that the Abrams movies brought in any new, lasting fans. There may have been a lot of people that saw the movies, but that doesn't translate into lasting fans.

We kind of need to stop talking for VF. Being disappointed is one thing, but from what I've seen VF isn't disappointed, he's bitter. He's been bitter ever since Enterprise and his attitude here was out of line.

We're talking about a damn TV show, let's gain some perspective. I'm disappointed by aspects of Discovery but I'm certainly going to watch it and judge it when I've seen it. VF is essentially trolling around hiding behind the excuse that at one point he was actually a Star Trek fan...

Oh, I'm still a Star Trek fan, just not of the dribble that has come out branded as Star Trek since Enterprise. I suppose it's hard to expect the Television industry to put out a show that appeals to older, conservative audiences since the industry is apparently ran by left leaning , liberal thinking ,politically correct loving young people that want to advance their agenda on society. I guess I will give up on ever getting any real Star Trek again.
