#95290 People want more "Back to the Future", Trek... not so much.

Posted by VulcanFanatic on 20 November 2018 - 04:50 PM

I really don't see where they could go with Back to the future.
Growing up, I noticed that the people around me that enjoyed thinking and seemed to be smarter than average enjoyed Star Trek and things similar to it, while those that didn't like to think and were more apt to watch shows that didn't require thinking and so they didn't like Star Trek. Today it seems most people don't want to think anymore and depend on social media to tell them how to act and so movies and TV shows are filled with action and little plot because they may get bored, because they don't want to think. People like that answer polls like this.

#95274 Star Trek: Section 31

I used to be all "woohoo can't wait" until we got Enterprise, Nemesis, then the JJ CRAP trilogy. Now we have Discovery, I am all out of "Woohoo can't wait", just one disappointment after another is what it seems to be. Would like to be pleasantly surprised but it does not appear that they know how to make a decent Star Trek series anymore.
Optimism to me is seeing a future that I would like to be a part of, a noble human race that explores the universe in search of strange new world's and civilizations. I would be ashamed to have the discovery crew be the representatives of the federation to other races.

Fixed that for ya  ;)

I had it right the first time. None of the newer shows or movies have been the success they have wanted because they have gotten away from the right formula.

#95222 Star Trek Lower Decks Animated Series Announced

Are there really Star Trek fans that came to the fandom through jj Abrams awful movies? That's hard to believe. They have no real substance to them, they are just big budget action movies that try to profit from some of the best of moments of past Trek but only end up committing sacrilige in many Trek fans eyes.If there are any fans that came by the movies, it's probably because they saw one of the newer movies and we're curious about older Trek and actually discovered real Trek in the process. If the Audience has dwindled ever since TNG, it's because every incarnation since has gotten farther away from true Star Trek. Even the TNG movies moved away from it. If there is ever going to be a way to unite fans again, it's to get back to the original formula. We don't need Spock and Kirk, we need real Star Trek.

It's like they are searching for that "lightning in a bottle" again, as TOS was described as, but it's they themselves that keep diluting Star Trek to a point where they can't even "Static cling" anymore. They need to return to the formula that worked from TOS that worked, as it did with TNG, and have a show set in the proper universe aboard an Enterprise after the Enterprise E, shortly after Nemesis. They don't need Spock and Kirk, they need the formula, without the SJW crap from Discovery, without the Kelvin universe crap, just get the formula right and the lightning will return.

#95153 Mego Corporation Revival - Could this mean new Star Trek toys?

Posted by VulcanFanatic on 25 October 2018 - 03:52 PM

Target had a sale on the Mego stuff last week, like 25% off. I picked up the Mirror Spock and Kirk set, it's pretty cool.Probably get a regular Spock, Romulan and maybe the Gorn too if I see them.

He looks so realistic it makes me miss TNG. I hope the new show will make good use of Picard and many of the TNG crew.

That's a great looking Picard figure.

#94551 New Star Trek Series starring Patrick Stewart

Would be great to see a familiar Star Trek show again. Just hope they don't try to modernize it to a point where it no longer feels like Picard's Star Trek any longer.

#93447 Season 2 of The Orville

Posted by VulcanFanatic on 04 March 2018 - 09:16 AM

I hope any success that the Orville may have will show CBS/ Paramount that there is a lot of people that would rather have a return the TNG era of Star Trek and not the stupid Discovery crap that they have tried to pass off as real Star Trek.

Wait you don't remember seasons 8 & 9! Are you experiencing the Mandela effect?

I wish I could forget every Star Trek put out by CBS Paramount since 2009.

thanks S8Film40, To your point any changes they made to Klingons in ENT,were largely tweaks and in-line with earlier shows.

What I don't get is I've read several place that the writers wanted to "Expand" and "Humanize" the Klingons... but to anyone that watched Seasons 4-9 of DS9 that wouldn't seem necessary.

So in that regard... I would agree that they decided to reboot the Klingons.

DS9 only had 7 seasons.

#93117 Do you want Discovery Action Figures?

Posted by VulcanFanatic on 11 February 2018 - 06:54 PM

No politics.  It's a rule.

Sure, no problem with that but how about addressing the first part of that paragraph? If polls are allowed, going back and altering the wording of a poll selection that changes the meaning of what you voted for shouldn't be allowed after there are votes already cast.

#92841 The "ST:Discovery is a Disaster!" Thread

Posted by VulcanFanatic on 22 January 2018 - 06:14 PM

It's funny when someone calls another person a bigot because they say they won't accept their ideas about lifestyles but that same person won't accept my ideas about lifestyles, so who is the real bigot here? It's people like you with no moral standard to live by that accept any irresponsible lifestyle choice as valid and therefore live the most dysfunctional lives imaginable which is the reason our society is so screwed up today.
