Play always seem to be way behind with getting their DST stuff. The best chance would normally have been FP, but since they support the 'D' Recall (Its still on sale at Play.com, go figure....).. this is becoming impenetrably complicated!!!! -------------------- I'm really not that bad a speller! my laptop has a sticky 'I' !!!!!!

Way to go, DST!! |

Wow. Just got mine today! Very nice! Love this release! I really can't wait till the TMP version comes out.
I think since the Action Figure line seems to be waning, I'm really digging these roll play items! I think I may like them better then the figures... that is if DST keeps putting out product like this. -------------------- Vivo vixi victum liber vel intereo!

Got my shipping notification today from EE for the TMP version today. I know what the cosmetic difference are but I'm curious to see what the sound effects will be.

Got my shipping notification today from EE for the TMP version today. I know what the cosmetic difference are but I'm curious to see what the sound effects will be. I got notification that these were in stock (from e-mail, FB or Twitter, not sure which), so I took advantage of the free shipping on orders over $59 and ordered two. I also got the EE-exclusive Troi figure for $3.49. Couldn't pass up that deal. |

thanks for the Tip on the free shipping pickard!
I just placed an order for two as well... I was thinking about getting an extra of the TWOK release to try and customize it, but I think this will be nicer! I think the color will add some flair to this release! -------------------- Vivo vixi victum liber vel intereo!

Well I received the TMP version yesterday. Sad to say that the only differences are the cosmetic changes. All the sound effects are completely the same. I have to say, though, that I like this version the best. The colored light display adds a little extra flare. Another nice piece of Trek tek from DST.

Chuck said back on Sep 21 in the ST Q&A that "The standard release is the phaser from TWOK the EE release is the phaser from TMP. There are differences in the color and control panel. I think they mean sound effect not voice effect. The TMP phaser will have sounds that the TWOK phaser will not. And as recently as Nov 18: "The TMP and TWOK phasers have different colored lights and some of the sounds are different." Guess DST cheaped out again. Still looking forward to it though! -------------------- |

Nah I haven't. I have both the TWoK and the TMP version on pre-order with play, and I too hope they haven't got a problem with this. Release date keeps getting pushed back.

My first post to the forums. I'll jump right in. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
That was all the difference in the originals. Actually, there was a little more than that. Nitpicking time! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) On the TMP phaser, the raised heatsink-like strips on either side of the phaser ran all the way around the front, above and below the emitter. They didn't stop at the back-end of the emitter area as on the TWOK phaser (it did end at the back end of the phaser itself, however, just like it does on the DST toys). The emitter on the TMP phaser had a single light in it, rather than four. It also had a plate on the base of the handle that the TWOK phaser didn't. The trigger shoud have a slightly raised bump on it and not be 100% inline with the profile of the handle, either. I've also heard rumours that the TMP phasers were slightly wider across the body and that the TWOK phasers tapered slightly more toward the back end. Not so sure about that. What DST have obviously done is simply take the same mold, put in the TMP control panel and change the colour of the lights to TMP colours. Certainly, if nothing else, it's a cost-cutting measure by DST to use the same molds rather than do separate, different-mold run. And while I'm picking nitts, one thing that does bug me is that this is TMP, which had an entirely different transporter sound effect. The TMP phaser still carries the TWOK transporter sound fx in the overload sequence. Another cost-cutting measure, I'm sure. Honestly, it's not an incredibly accurate representation of the TMP phaser, but it's still the most accurate I've seen outside of the real props or ones that have been custom built, and I can live with it as is. Finally, since the TWOK and (to a slightly lesser extent) the TMP phaser are my absolute favourite phaser designs, and despite my nitpicking, I think they're great, and am thrilled to have a TWOK phaser that I can carry around the house shooting the family dogs with - until I'm told to "stop that. You're scaring the kids." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |
