Hot Wheels Die Cast Series!!

http://www.entertain...number=MTP6921A

Hot Wheels designers pay tribute to the incredibly enduring and popular Star Trek franchise with this die-cast assortment of 1:50 scale models based on the movies and television shows. These models are loaded with the kind of detail that will drive Star Trek collectors and Trekkies absolutely wild with excitement. This case of 4 individually packaged ships may include (subject to change):
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Refit
Klingon Bird of Prey
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D
U.S.S. Reliant NCC-1864

I love the Enterprise Refit and the Reliant Ideas!!

I am going to email them to make sure that these are included in the wave as it says it is 'subject to change'

Well Im sure the AMT/ERTL Klingon BOP model kit is something like 1/650, so 1/50 is simply huge. Can that really be right?

EDIT: Found this link to a Trek model scale chart. The BOP is indeed 1/650 scale. See it HERE.

Must be a mistake; the lot of 4 of them costs $50

Wouldn't be suprised if they were 1/500. That woul be a little more sensible. Still The Ent-D Would still be 2 feet or so long.

I bet they are going to be the same size as the Johnny Lightning stuff or maybe a bit bigger for that price.

Reply from Mattel (I did not ask about the scale stuff...)

Dear Mr. DeHart,

Thank you for your inquiry. At this time we do not know if these models
will be shown at the New York Toy Fair. The information that we have
from the Hot Wheels Design team is as follows:

Here is what we think will be the first three ships:
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701D
U.S.S. Reliant NCC-1864
We will post images in early 09.

We would suggest that you continue to watch our websites for further
information.

Sincerely,

Mattel's 1:50 scale line items are about 4-5" long, so yes, these will most likely be about the size of the Johnny Lightning. It's confusing, though. If Mattel is going to be making these, then what about JL's line?

JL's Trek line has been on shaky ground from the start. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up dropping it altogether.

JL''s Trek line would do betterif they branched out and created some new moulds. The Akira, Nebula, Defiant and Sovereign Classes are just begging to be made.

I love what Mattel's Hot Wheels line has been doing with Batman's Batmobile lately. Star Trek will be awesome in diecast. I read at this link that they were doing a Klingon BOP also: http://trekmovie.com...-coming-in-may/

BBTS now has these listed for $49.99

They better be amazing compared to the JL ships to cost more than double the JL ships.

JL's problem is not variety, it is distribution. They have a relatively small distribution network and therefore smaller runs of product. If they could get more of their product to more stores, they would be in better shape and be better able to expand the line. They are not Hot Wheels or Matchbox so they don't have as much selling power.

I wonder what's happened to Corgi's die-cast line? i love those ships and they are far bigger and nicer to display than the JL line.

I suppose that explains why the nacelles look so pinched together. I was really hoping they would be different than other companies and finally make a K-BoP with folding wings, but they appear fixed.

I'll definitely wait to see how decent and how pricey they turn out to be at the stores, I like them - especially the stands - but after Corgi, JL, Furuta... Is more of the same really needed?
