I saw this was now available to order from BBTS, set to arrive in October!

I love the way this one looks.

Me likey..... Although I am going to wait to place an order ( i will use Amazon because they seem to get DST items earlier.)

This looks like one of their best role plays to date.... I wonder if the Type 1 will have all the flashies and blinkies the way the phaser did in the film? The reason I ask is that the Type 1 wasnt actually detachable on the Hero version due to all the lights packed into it....but now that there has been advancements in tech from 30 some years ago they may be able to have the Type 1 have all the lights and sound effects and still be detachable.

I'm thinking yes. The WOK phaser 1 lit up when detached, granted it is a bit larger than the SFS phaser 1...but still. Maybe it will even power the phaser 1/2 combo when combined like the TOS phaser.

I agree. We should expect the type 1 will be removable and have all the lights and sounds the TOS and TWOK phasers came with.

This is a welcome addition!

Preordered several within minutes of BBTS putting this up. It's been years and years since DST has had something coming out that I am really excited to get. Can't wait. Although, knowing DST, it might be a bit of a wait.

I'm not even sure if they can make any actual variants of this. The TNG one would require some kind of wrapped handle, and I just can't see them producing the wrapped material for it. Although the TOS tricorders did have pleather straps, so who knows. It just seems like something that wouldn't happen since it is more than just molding parts and there is the issue of what materials to use, how to keep it attached, etc.

The concept version would have to have very different electronics, it would depend on how they do the electronics package. But, if the prototype electronics are too different, not sure they would go to the trouble of creating completely different electronics. The TWOK phaser was just a matter of adding colored lights to the existing package. This might involve a completely different lighting arrangement.

It doesn't matter, I suppose. I'm just so excited to see this model even happen. A lack of variants wouldn't even be noticed in this case.

Was there one in IV? I didn't even realize this!! Does it look almost the same as the TSFS version?

Type 1 is removable:

Don't search for Spock while you're unarmed! Carry the famous phaser first seen in the third Star Trek movie, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock! With a removable Type 1 "cricket" phaser and a Type 2 pistol grip, this instantly recognizable Starfleet-issue Star Trek III Movie Phaser Light-Up Prop Replica with Sound features realistic lights and sound effects straight from the film. It's the latest advancement in role-playing technology!

The 3 and 4 are actually the same. You can see them in the holsters of the Starfleet security personnel, but they are the same model used in 3. The alternate version for this phaser was only made by ILM as a prototype that never made it into any movie. However, the art for that phaser made it into books like "Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise" and other licensed material.

I can't wait for this one.  It looks great.  I've spoken with Rick at New Force recently and he said he still doesn't know when he'll get them in.  I have a preorder with him.

Including a stand would probably raise the MSRP higher that DST would feel comfortable.

Unlikely. I have no doubt that DST gives those dates in earnest why they solicit orders, but they rarely seem to meet those dates for Trek merchandise.

Allot of times they solicit and wait to get the min order from retailers to manufacture, which I think (just speculating here) is the main reason for delays.
