I'd argue that every time the crew went back in time, a new timeline was created. "City on the Edge of Forever" created the timeline where Khan actually met Chekov.

Seriously though...one has to wonder why whenever a team sits down lately they only manage to make matters worse when it comes to not only canon but consistency of plot/themes/atmosphere/message?
How many actual dedicated fans with writing talent would it take to sit down and start a spinoff series from scratch and instead make matters better, or at least no worse, or at least worse at a reduced rate???

Largely DS9 is linked to the great development of the Klingons and the deep view we got into it... its also kinda why all the retconning is tough...
Likewise, ENT gave us a pretty deep view of Vulcan..
You know what might have been interesting... if, perhaps, they explored more depth into other founding planets of the federation, how about a better look into Andoria... or Tellerite.
There are great nuggets all the way back to TOS that could be further explored and fleshed out.

Spoiler
I eagerly await the announcement of yet another Star Trek Show: "Star Trek: Malfunctions" in which we see the Adventures of Pike and Spock on the Enterprise, venturing in a five year mission from starship to starship, from starbase to starbase, from outpost to outpost, with the intend to single-handedly ripping out every holo projector in existence. Boldly ripping. Where no one has ripped before!

Writer's room:
"Let's add a line about blah blah rip out the holoprojectors on the Enterprise blah blah"
"Haha, now that's clever! Now no nerd can argue with that!"
"That's why they pay me the big bucks! I'm da Big Kurtz!"
"Right on bro!"

Yeah.... this is a perfect case where they would be better off just keeping their traps shut and let fans rant... because as weve seen (heard? ) theres no god answer...
I disagree. Lets just take a look at nBSG for the moment. The Galactica had no connected computer network. Why? Because the cylons had used it against them. Why not have an outside force use the holographic technology against our protagonists? Maybe the technology is prone for manipulation. Write a story, where the Disco-Crew get strange orders by the president/CnC via holo, and later on, they discover, that they have been fooled/manipulated the whole time. Either by the klingons, or by section 31 or whatever. They are in an era of cold war (more or less). What better set-up? Could explain easily, why Starfleet goes a bit retro with their technology (not as easy to manipulate). I mean, we live in a time, where its more and more difficult to distinguish real from fake (CGI characters like peter cushing, for example). Disco could commend on that, or at least make storys about it.
But, as always, the writers simply don't use their assets and go the easy/dumb route instead. THAT'S the Problem with Disco.

Yeah....good points all around. Though, if it were possible to fake out a holographic communication, you'd think it would be even easier to fake out an old 2D viewscreen communication...so I'm not sure that story would be any less prone to nerd rage!

S2E2 was really good... why can't we have more like that?! Got me wondering if it was an anomaly or what? Seems to be the only episode pen'd by Sean Cochran who's a staff writer... but mostly just edits... maybe he should be writing more?

These episode move way too fast - and yet somehow nothing of much consequence really happens in them either.
That's not even old age talking.
There was no time whatsoever to figure out what was going on as a viewer. None of this "blah blah fungus dimension blah blah tree bark blah blah" stuff came across very well, nor does it make any sense. And we are supposed to empathize with these characters via nothing but "shorthand" mechanisms in the script.
Seriously. Weak, weak sauce people.
GET BETTER.

I'll pile on... even though they seem to be whipping through lots.. you just don't care! The last few episodes I've been playing old arcade games while its on in the background... the show isn't grabbing my primary attention!

The major thing that happened towards the end of the last episode whizzed by at transwarp speed. I went from “huh?” to “no way” to “oh see not fully real” to “huh?” again.

Yep, and whats frustrating is since Buhrnam is supposed to be the star, thats supposed to be her... and I'm not sure if its that they are failing to try and do that or that the character is so flawed you just don't believe her. Additionally... I already disliked.. and therefore discounted the entire spore drive premise... so I really don't care why they eventually abandon it... we already knew that it was a dead end from the very get go... in Trek its ok to have technological dead ends... we've seen dead ends.. in fact we've seen a similar arc already with "The Pegasus"... and whats so annoying about everything going on in DISCO is where was section 31 in that episode... seems like that should have been just their cup tea!
