Hey all,

A few weeks ago after attending the Wizardcon here in Chicago in late August, I decided that it's time that I dress up for next year. I consider myself to be a creative type and have leaned towards trying to dress and create my own Borg costune for next August.

Does anyone have a lead where I can go to buy some of these items or the material to make my own pieces? Ive seen some Borg eye prosthetics on eBay and internet so I may find those. Ill need to think about a black outfit to wear and what arm prosthetics ill want/need.

I can buy black plastic or rubber tubing in differnt sizes on ebay as well as a borg eye prosthetic. Should I consider a black latex, pvc, or rubber outfit?

There is a spandex head to toe outfit you can get now in any color, like green if you were doing the invisible man on a green screen. Otherwise, any dance wear place has spandex outfits and with it being Halloween, black spandex hoods are plentiful, so I would at least get that piece now. White makeup for the face. You might check out plumbing pvc pipe at Home Depot for an arm prosthetic base that you could add finger operated gizmos to. If right handed, design it for yor left. Also fabric glue and velcro. Make little parts to stick on different places, glue the velcro to the part and your suit.

I had a 3 year undefeated run as Harry Mudd, but lost to a Borg in Austin who looked like he walked off the set.

I highly suggest going with spandex as your base outfit. Latex and other materials will not breath and will mean that you will be prone to sweat more...and since I'm sure you will be wanting some make-up and prosthesis attached, the less sweat the better.

Anyone know where I can buy affordable rubber or latex sheet/block that I can buy and customize? I'd spray it dark silver for Borg prosthetics.

This looks like a lot of work. Hope I can find something like cold foam I can cut and shape as I need.

When I was 12, I cast some prosthetics directly out of plaster of paris (that's the one with the gauze in it, right?)

(ignore the picture's text, I just realised that I must have been 12)

I whitened my face and did the veins with a cheap-o makeup kit, and sealed it all with liquid latex. Then I adhered all the bits and bobs to my face with liquid latex. The eye and ear pieces were plaster casts. Some of the tubes, I actually threaded in under the latex, so they looked like they properly went into me. I didn't have enough latex to make a bald cap, but, ironically, after adhering an implant to my hair, I had to shave my head to get off. If I was doing it over again, I'd just do that bit first.

The skin looks great. I already shave my head so I'm ahead of the game!? LOL. Was it hard? I had planned using white make up and concentrating on the head pieces, body pieces.

The guy who beat me looked better than that guy, and more important, was more flexible. You will want to think about sitting down in it, it will be a long day.

Even with your head shaved, I would recommend a bald cap and white paint. It will speed up the application process.
