For a while now I've been thinking about what toy company will take on the next Star Trek movie licence. For a while I thought it might be Mattel since they now own Mega Bloks which has just been awarded the Star Trek licence to produce building block sets. That could still make sense for CBS if they still want to go down the mainstream toy line route.

The fan in me though would love for DST to grab this licence (why not give it to DST as well as a mainstream toy maker) as it would compliment the established line DST already produce and tie in the new movies with the established prime universe. I've always felt that the merchandise for the new movies has been few and far between and pretty awful by and large (besides Qmx) compared to the great merchandise we've been getting based on the TOS/TNG era.

I'd love to see DST put out a fully articulated line of new movie action figures based upon their select line. Spock Prime, Khan, Nero, Kirk, Spock, Uhura, McCoy, Scotty, Keenser, Admiral Marcus, Orbital Dive Sulu to name but a few and just think about how awesome a DST USS Enterprise, Kelvin, Vengeance and Narada would be! Plus all the props!

Anyway, just my thoughts...

I would love for DST to get the rights to the new movie, they would do a fantastic job with it.

I know one thing I would like to see is a Kirk figure in the new captains chair, like they did with Picard, Riker, Archer, and Kirk. Of course I'd love a re-release of those figures as well since I could never get them.

As for ships, I would love a proper large version of the JJPrise since the Playmates one is lacking, and no one else has touched it really. I'd expect if they were to make a new ship, the Enterprise would be the first.

The only one I question them making is the Narada, that thing is a very complicated model that would use a lot of plastic and would probably make it quite expensive. The other big issue with it is the pointyness of it,  it would be a rather dangerous toy... unless they neuter it and make it look terrible like the Hot Wheels one.

One big thing they would have to do is not focus solely on the new stuff though, they'd want to mix in older Trek items as well. With ships for example, they could do 1 from the prime timeline, and 1 from the new timeline to attempt to appease everyone.

Would love to see it.  DST deserves it.  They've stuck with Star Trek longer than any other toy licensee.

Well Hascrap aren't doing anything with Trek, never did really, just some crap stuff,so let DST have it! Even though I liked what Playmates gave us,heaps better than those other guys,I'm sure DST could do wonders with this new movie stuff.

Was a reason ever given for not doing a line for STID?

They didn't have the rights to it, and they still don't as far as we know.

To be honest I would rather have NECA do it.   They have a longer track record and have made quality action figures.  When DST had the line of figures they did a decent job though so I wouldnt be pissed or any thing.

To be frank, we don't know much of anything at this point lol.

Nope we don't, and that is why I'm done guessing.

Whatever they release I'll probably buy anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

Honestly I would rather see Neca get it as well.

I agree, I think NECA having it would be better for several reasons, the main one being competition. DST's only competitor, even today, is Playmates. Models, or $10,000 artisan replicas are an incredibly unfair comparison, so I'd say NECA having the new movie license would be great in that regard.

Secondly, if DST did get the movie license, then it'd be years before we see the prime universe ships many of us want. Reliant, Defiant, Voyager and Enterprise-C. Maybe if they stick with two ships a year, we'd be able to still get them, but it'd be at the expense of any possible alien ships from the prime universe.

I'd also be good with NECA getting it, I know they'd do a great job with figures, but I don't know if NECA would be able to do the ships. I've seen their bigger electronic figures that are great, but I don't think they've done anything comparable to DSTs ships.
