The latest issue of Toyfare just lists them as being released in Fall 09.

Rats, I'm really beginning to get nervous about this second series. Series 1 is on clearance everywhere except wal-mart, who after being unable to sell them on clearance, jacked them back up to $6.97! Guess that fits right in to their less product/ smaller toy section. I'm thinking if we do see wave 2 ,they'll only be at Wal-mart at TRU

Your right, if they really wanted to make the most of an opportunity, they would make sure they were in stores by November 17th and even have them displayed together. They would sell out if they did that at walmart, or anywhere for that matter. People that normally dont go down the toy aisle would be likely to buy a star trek toy for a husband, boyfriend, wife, girlfriend, father or mother or other family member if they were out christmas shopping, came upon the movie display, got the movie for someone for Christmas and saw the toys there, they would probably say something like "Hey thats neat, i should get that for Dad" or whoever. I am surprised the retailers dont think like that. With these toys stuck in the deepest bowels of the toy section gethering dust, only the folks that already know they are out will be looking for them.

You know that is a brillant marketing strategy , even better have a sale incentive , say maybe buy the DVD and a figure together and get however much off the figure or DVD .

I just read on another forum that Playmates has canceled the "Terminator Salvation" license and line, and has relegated the Wave 2 trek toys to online stores only... mainly Entertainment Earth, but I'm sure NFC and a few others will get a piece...

If this is true then don't wait around for these to show up in major retailers... unless you count "Big Lots" among those!

I find this a bit confusing, because, I can't understand why playmates would announce a new 3.75 Trek line of older stuff if they don't have any major B&M retailers to support the movie stuff...

I'm looking for conformation on this "Rumor"...

I am not surprised about the Terminator Salvation stuff, i mean did they sell even one figure? It was hard to tell at any of the stores i went to that carried the line. I am skeptical about the Wave 2 being a online only thing. As far as i know, Playmates HAS NEVER done that before and i cant see it happening now with TOS figures being announced and Star Trek being a pretty big success at the box office and all with no end in sight of future movies and merchandising. Anything is possible in the collecting world i suppose, but this is not probable IMO.

I agree. Looking back at AA Q&As, I am convinced that there is a joint venture or something going on between DST and Playmates where Star Trek is concerned at the moment. It seems like the best route to keep both companies afloat in the current economy. I see the possibility of a strong return for both companies if this is handled right. DST's talent with Playmates resources is a logical step! I just hope we aren't reading Chuck's comments too wishfully, but like Chuck said, "Time will tell."

I did say it was just a rumor!

But DST really is pretty much only an online retailer... yes yes I know they do sell stuff to TRU, but that's really the only B&M they have. Most of us here have to order their product either online or from a comic shop which basically buys through the distribution arm of DST.

I wouldn't be surprised if most B&M stores canceled their wave 2 orders and you pretty much only see these in TRU and on-line. Like I said I'm asking the source for some type of confirmation.

Hmmm, update... here's what EE them selves are saying...

That may be why it was pushed back. The slow down in sales of the first wave probably caused most retailers to drop out of the line.

Wow!  Online only:(  That sucks so bad!!!!  I was looking forward to walking into a store and seeing some new Playmates hanging on the pegs.  It was gonna take me back to my younger days.  Oh, well, I guess I gotta try to order 'em off line then.  I really don't know how this Classic Trek thing is gonna work out now.

Wasn't there a discussion (in another thread) about several of the figures in wave 2 being online exclusives?

Do you suppose that this is why they (EE) are billing it this way? Because you can only get a complete set if you order online?

Still for collectors that would force you to order online, but then the retail stores would just get packouts of what was selling best...

I dunno... I'm truly confused at how the new TOS playmates line is going to sell... unless they are planning to market direct to collectors like DST/AA does?

Although online sales are here to stay, i doubt very seriously that online sales will be anywhere close to what Playmates is used to at B&M stores. I cant see how Playmates would be interested in that. I am not writing off Star Trek figures at retail stores quite yet. I could be wrong but its still way too early to tell.

Man I hope you're right VulcanFanatic. I hate ordering stuff online. Waiting and waiting on the order to be filled and then sent. Then once you get it, who knows what kind of shape it is going to be in. I'm really hoping that Wal-mart and TRU will get these. It sure seems like they will considering Wal-Mart had them on clearance for 2 months, couldn't sell them, so they just put the price back at $6.47, which I assumed was because wave 2 was right around the corner with the DVD release.

Well, I hope for the sake of people that do like the product it is in retail stores, and a "Shared exclusive" can mean a number of things, but no matter what, it sounds like some of the figures (if not all) in wave 2 will only be available on line, and it seems all the online retailers are only offering wave 2 as an entire set. Which makes sense. They use the "exclusives" to sell the entire set where they would other wise sell out just the exclusives and be stuck with what is easily found at retail.

The sad truth is I can't remember the last time I actually found something new at a B&M that I bought! I look, but I rarely see anything here... and I collect some of the DCUC, and Marvel Legends as well as Star Trek Stuff... I've pretty much been forced to get it all online.
