BSG's Chief & DST Out for Blood!

DST is excited to announce plans to participate in the annual Blood Drive at this year's San Diego Comic-Con! To emphasize the importance of giving blood, we will be donating a limited edition Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Chief Tyrol figure as a giveaway for participating donors!

Chief Tyrol has been featured on Sci-Fi's Battlestar Galactica since 2003 and remains a fan-favorite character. The figure has been limited to 750 pieces, and will only be available through the blood drive - they will not be on sale or given away elsewhere.

"After last year's extremely successful campaign, we're delighted to once again be contributing to the Robert A Heinlein Blood Drive," said Chuck Terceira, Director of Diamond Select Toys. "We shattered last year's record, and we're looking forward to doing even better this year!"

To register for the Blood Drive, stop by the Blood Drive booth at Comic-Con or visit the Comic-Con website, www.comic-con.org, for additional instructions and information.

Yeah, it was the giveaway at DST's special invite only party. Apparently they had a recreation of Joe's Bar from the show and these were the party gifts.
Here's the AA blog post:

And here are some loose photos:

Looks pretty cool and I wish I could get one. I always liked the super shiny minimate version.
Oh yeah, and here is a pic of the invite to the party:

that is such crap. i think everyone should ahve access to stuff like this not just the select few. doing con exclusives is one thing but this goes way beyond that.

How so TheHSBR? If it makes you feel any better, I went to the con and wasn't invited to this party wink.gif I know this is the age old argument we seem to have every year about this time. Do or don't the attendee's deserve a little something for their troubles? I'm sorry, but I think they do and I don't always think it's fair for the exclusives to pop up after the shows on various online stores. So, instead of looking at the gloomy on this, I think you need to look on the brightside and appreciate what some of the companies do to insure you get figures after the shows. I'm not trying to start a flame war or divide the forum, this is just my thoughts on things biggrin.gif

And it's also a repaint. It's not like they made a completely new figure and only made it an exclusive. If you have to have every single variant, including repaints, then just be patient and keep your eyes open. Otherwise, just accept that exclusives are a big part of this industry and some exclusives are going to be harder to find than others.

Oh I am in no way complaining about it. I just wanted to know if anyone knew anything about. I figure if I knew more about it then I may be able to find a way to get my grubby little hands on one. LOL.

I dont mind convention exclusives that are made in large quantities, i dont like this business of making 100 figures and giving them out to your buddies so that they can turn a profit on them. I dont think retailers (who are usually the ones invited to these things) should be any more special than the people buying the figures. The way I see it, DST makes money off selling stuff to retailers, retailers make money off selling stuff to me, and retailers get incentives to make money off of me? Something doesnt add up in my mind. at the very least they should be made available to the public in some way shape or form. whether you re-release it in new packaging or offer it as some sort of promotion, all are fine by me. i can rmember when the red troi was first announced and people went up in arms. at least there dst offered enough so that if people wanted it they could get it. hopefully they do that again.

I just got 4 Valley of Darkness Cylons in and let me say that this just might be the best figure dst has ever made. the dark airbrush effect on the silver metal just makes the figure look spectacular. The atlernate hands and forearms gives the figure whatever look you want. The blood staining is pretty cool too. DST really had a field day with adding new types of articulation that i cant even begin to describe. Overall just a superb figure! I cant wait to get the original release when series 2 hits!

I agree 100%. This is realy a great figure. I have it on good authority that BSG series 2 has hit the west cost and should be getting to DST any day now for distribution. I cant wait to get them all. I may even try and find another SDCC Cylon online somewhere I like it so much.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the Cylon Wave myself. Once these hit, I'll pick up Caprica Six finally and display them on my shelf.

My two "Downloaded" cylons came in from BBTS and they are pretty cool. I think the VoD figs are better but these are really nice. I just need to pick up the regular release now!

For one thing I think that the shoulders are a different color right? one is silver and the other is gray.

The main difference is that the main release is a darker almost gunmetal grey whereas the downloaded is a sterling silver. Other than that there is no difference. The color difference carries through for the whole figure.
