Problem is the retail price. I'm not paying more than $10 for a 4.5" figure unless it's extra dandy. That's why I stopped collecting Star Wars 4" figures after 30 years.

Yeah, there had to have been dozens of prototypes of the Galor-class that they had built and hand-painted. They couldn't have all been thrown out. That thing was pretty much ready for production.
The absence of the D-7 is strange too, given the fact that it had appeared in various forms on TOS, TNG, DS9 and even Voyager. Those would have been slam dunks at retail and they would have all been cleaned out in weeks.

Oh dang, good spot! They swapped it out to feature Chekov in her place.

Chapel seems to consistently get diss'ed. Overall Chapel appears in at least 25 TOS episodes... which is basically 1/3 of all episodes. Then They brought her back for the animated series and again, Chapel appears in about 1/3 of the episodes.
So while the argument can be made that she wasn't cast as a main crew member, She is, I think, the character with the most recurrences in TOS, and thus a very prominate character in the series... which is why its the one character I think AA/DST messed up by never releasing.

I'm glad they offered Chapel as a Minimate.
Now if they'd just go as deep into TNG territory as they have with TOS, I'd be a happier collector.

The Original Series Bridge Crew TRU special, 1993
Here's yet another group of prototype figures of the TOS bridge crew, whose head sculpts differed from the eventual production versions.

The Salt Vampire seems doomed. It didn't even get a Minimate.

Wow, its been a while since I visited! So many incredible pics! Nice to see Chris Overley in a few of em. I wonder what he's up to today?
I must admit to being considerably dirty about that Bele figure - thats the clearest photo Ive seen so far, and I would have dearly oved that figure. Would have been a great fit for that warp factor wave too (the one that came with Kirk and Spock from City on the Edge of Forever).

Picard in Jacket Uniform, 1992
Here's a hand-painted prototype of the Picard figure from 1992. Note that aside from the top of the outer jacket being painted in the same gray color as the shirt, this figure is missing a holster on the right side and his lips have a different color than the rest of the face, unlike the figure where they're all the same skin tone color.

Borg, 1993
Here's an early second-release Borg figure, hand-painted and used in Pmates promotional materials. As you can see, the color is quite plainly & generously bronze here, in contrast to the gray color used for the production figure. A lot of the detailing colors are different here, perhaps too many to list effectively, extending down to the slippers he wears. Just about... every color imaginable is different on this hand-painted prototype, and the variety of colors is quite extensive too: there's gold on the right leg, green on his button pad, gold on the left arm, bronze on the body, dull orange on the six pack, while black and gray barely make an appearance at all.
The color changes to production certainly made the figure seem more realistic, if not completely screen-correct, because the Borg had a lot more darker colors on screen and generally were not shiny on the outside at all. Then there are the hardware differences, as the Borg wasn't really patterned on any screen-seen Borg, but were more of a "compilation."
I think the production team made the right move by going easy on the colors, even though the screen-correct Borg were even darker in color due to the black jumpsuits worn underneath.
