Definitely going to make it to the next one. My wife and I did a little toy hunt and it ended up going into the evening for us. BTW, why was FHC blurting out random things again? I'm older than he is, so he can't say it's the onset of old age tongue.gif

From Chuck's responses on here, it sounds like none of the figures that were shown off before will ever be made, like he said they would try get done one way or another, except for the new Romulan figure, and that the figure line is totally dead forever. sad.gif

On the contrary, he said that the once TRU wave would be out first(Scotty,Romulan,Kirk) and then the TOS two packs. Apparently there is nothing planned beyond that too release, but Chuck said he wants a Mark Lenard Romulan too.

[dstchuck] Next thing we get in will be the TOS old TRU wave then the two packs.

Transcript from Chat with Chuck 05/13/10:

Thanks so much for posting the transcript! I'm so sorry I missed this chat.

What a top-notch guy Chuck is for taking the time -- and having the courage -- to do this!

I missed the part about the 2 packs. But it does look bleak after that.

Random as in "Give the man time to answer"?

We did have a brief side chat about that WOK com that spilled over into the chat, but that was before the chat officially started. Some of us where not only there, but way early. Or in my case late being on east coast time.

I'm looking forward to Romulan Kirk.. since I picked up an an extra yellow-shirted Kirk at Toys for a head-swap. wink.gif Hopefully if/when the aborted Toys wave is released, it'll sell better than expected and we can get DST to making baby steps in releasing other stuff!

It was nice to be able to read the transcript since I wasn't able to make it to the chat, although I'd definitely like to try and make the next one. A couple of thoughts though:

1. The Defiant and Voyager are "risky" ships to produce, but the Reliant isn't? Really? Really?! Outside of ships named "Enterprise" the Defiant and Voyager are the most well-known ships in Trek! Well, the most well-known Federation ships, and they easily top at least one ship named Enterprise. (Enterprise-C.) Given the fact that the Playmates Voyager goes for well over $200 in its box, I'd think DST would jump on this ship so that we could have a toy of it for fewer than $200, even if it ran us $100...or $150, just something under $200. wink.gif I'm trying to understand how these two ships aren't no-brainers; especially when one thing that seems to sell well is the ships, even with their high-priced tooling.

2. The future of figures looks bleak, but no more or less bleak than it's looked for the past few years; until this recession ends I think we can expect this; the BP disaster may also contribute to product hold-ups given the loss of oil needed for plastic. However, I think DST could throw us two figures a year and have them sell, of course, I also think that they need to stop using pre-orders as the be all-end all to whether or not something gets produced. Yes, I pre-order, but I prefer to have an exact release date when I pre-order something and not to have the items release hinge on whether or not I've pre-ordered it early on.

3. Again, I'd like to know why Tek hasn't been mapped out further, and why we're not seeing an additional ship or additional Tek while the figures are on hold. With the figures on hold, it seems like a good time to pump out some additional ships or Tek in place of the figures.

4. No word on the Enterprise-E reissue and/or any potential improvements (e.g. LEDs) I see...

5. Finger-powered landing gear I can kind of understand; even Hasbro is using that on their Star Wars starfighters, but the wings of the BoP should spring-loaded if not motorized. I mean, Playmates had a motorized Voyager, and the nacelles essentially moved like a BOP's wings; likewise, Hasbro's starfighters have spring-loaded Wings/S-Foils, and the mechanism isn't that difficult to implement; many toy companies seem to use some variation of it, so I don't see why DST couldn't do the same thing. Metal concerns with children? How is everyone else getting away with metal and metal parts in their toys if this is such an issue? Also, how many of DST's Trek customers are children, vs. collectors? wink.gif I know that toys marketed to collectors can get away with certain things that toys marketed to children cannot.

All in all, a good Q&A, my only gripe is that DST still seems to be daft when it comes to the fact that there are those of us who are Voyager fans and who have been purchasing TOS items in the hopes that we'll be thrown a bone with something from VOY; likewise there are those of us who are DS9 fans and who would like to see our line expanded upon. Once the BoP is out, and the Excelsior/Enterprise-B are moving along, I'd really like to see DST go for the Defiant and Voyager. We have the Enterprise-E, and a battle-damaged Defiant could easily fit in with that so long as the sound chip is swapped to include Worf's lines from First Contact rather than say, Sisko's from DS9. Voyager should be doable as well; the entire series was named after the ship, and it's not like it's unrecognizable by Trek fans. I mean, even if we don't get figures, the least DST could give us is the ship; I know I'd buy them. The nacelles could use the same system as the Klingon BoP; throw in finger-powered landing gear and you practically have the "Federation BoP" design that Voyager used. I can think of simple variants that could justify production numbers as well (Year of Hell Voyager, Endgame Voyager, etc.)

Oh and Slayerone, I liked how you tried to trip up Chuck to get him to spill what ship was coming next; fool him once my friend, fool him once... wink.gif (Of course, if the BoP sells really well as a result of the leak, maybe Chuck should start spilling his guts more often. wink.gif)
