I have had this "Mid-Grade" kit for some time. A "Mid-Grade" is a phaser that was built faster and cheaper then the "hero" was made. It was not for close up shooting like the "hero" more like the Red Shirt guy would hold 15' back behind Kirk. It should look close but not "hero" perfect. Well I have gotten around to starting it anyway. After taking it out of the box and giving it a real good scrub, I drilled out the front end to fit on the new nozzle. I up graded most of the parts with metal ones.

After that I drilled down through the body and the handle. After I got that done I want back and drilled the hole through the body a little bigger then the screw I planned to use. This way the screw would turn freely in the body pulling the handle nice and tight. I will go back later and place some JB Weld between the pieces and re-screw them back together before I paint.
Then for a small test to see how it was looking so far.

Moving along

Ready for some primer and paint. All metal parts test fitted and ready to go!

Oh Oh Oh I can smell the paint a coming... My Mid in Primer, Hot Rod Grey to be specific.

Ok, I took the body parts back apart one last time and sprayed them in the proper colors. Once it dries I will brush paint the fins silver and the area above the nozzle black. Once that is dried, I will put all the parts back together and put on the metal!!

I tried to shoot these without flash when I could so you could get a better idea of the colors.

This morning I put on a coat of flat clear. That was kind of tough to do since I had done such a fine job of making the paint shine so. I thought that the flat would like more appropriate. I taped the sides of the P1 and painted on the side rails. While I was at it, I painted the fins.

I epoxied the top of the handle and placed it back on. I the put all the metal on the P2 and the P1. When the epoxy had dried, I put it all together. I cut a few steps shorter then I would have otherwise but I had to remember that this was a Mid-Grade. smile.gif Full gloss paint and everything super straight would have taken away from the look I was going for funny enough.

Here are some shots with and without flash.

Looks good!

Are you going to paint the top of the ten turn or just leave as is?

I did go back and paint it. I wanted to try and remove the crispy and cut it down some but for once' I have epoxy that really worked. I'm afraid that I can't get it off without damaging the paint.
