I remember when I was a kid, avidly reading the "Star Trek" Magazine looking for new Star Trek toys. I had all six of the crew and a Ferengi who's head fell off, the oversized cricket phaser and a die cast Enterprise I felt was the wrong color at the time and repainted badly. I never had any other aliens until last year. However, I remembered reading (and another thread in here confirmed it) about getting a free bearded Riker with a purchase of other toys. Of course, I already had all the others and had no money, so I never got one.

Are there pictures of what this product looked like? I'm not looking for pics of someone's own personal custom (though I'm sure they're great) but for the officially "sanctioned" one that was available.

I don't think that was official. I remember that only Intergalactic Trading Co. had them, and I think they customized those themselves or had them customized.

Intergalactic Trading co. did there own customizing, which was just a magic marker drawn on beard. There was never a Galoob produced Bearded Riker. Intergalactic explained that they did this because Riker were so over packed in the cases that they had tons of extras and used the gimmick to entice people to order a set from them. That was in the day before small businesses like Intergalactic could buy evenly packed cases from a big Toy company.

Thanks for the info. I'm still curious to see how it looks...boredom and nostalgia mostly...I always wanted to have it as a kid.

Contact Intergalactic, i wouldnt be surprised if they didnt still have some after 22 years as overloaded with them as they were.

I have actually been planning on picking up an extra Riker to do a custom bearded version. These little guys were ahead of their time and really aren't that dated when you look at some of the others these days. I wish that someone would do repros and possibly make a few other characters in the same style.

I'm surprised no one here ever took them up on the offer. I had thought about it, but by then I was overstocked with the Galoob figures. Still am actually. I still have a couple of cases of them.

You know , I might be interested in a Worf if it's reasonably priced . The Galoob figures came out before I was collecting Trek , but they have always interested me.

I bought my Galoob Star Trek figures at Kmart back in the 80's, they were cheaper than Intergalactic. I did buy some stuff from Intergalactic back then, but it was a last resort for me because they have always been overpriced on most everything.

Here's a picture of the customized "official" figure:

bearded_riker.jpg

Info: A 1989 Intergalactic Trading Company ad offering a "free Bearded Riker" with purchase. These figures were hand-customized by the ITC staff with a black marker as a way to unload a supply of extra Riker figure inventory due to lack of sales.

25 years later they are probably still trying to unload these Rikers....

Actually, they're not.  On their online page, there is no bearded Riker listed on what they have to sell.  Also, out of all the times I've seen their booth at MegaCon, they don't have any bearded Rikers on sale with their other ST figures (I've bought a few ST Playmates figures from them before).

So cool to finally see one! It may seem silly, but I always wanted one as a kid but I already had the toys, so I wasn't going to order them again. Still...fun to see Thanks for posting that CB2001!
