In case you hadn't heard (I saw it on another board), Thomas Sasser, the model maker who worked on every ship since the TOS Enterprise, has passed away.

Hi guys .... This is very sad news.

Unfortunately, beyond the grief of losing Thom, his family is facing serious financial problems due to his medical bills and costs of hospice care. They are about to lose their home and have already had their car repossessed. Thom had complications due to diabetes..... His wife, after becoming the sole source of income, lost her job trying to take care of Thom and work.

Thom's sister has set up a gofundme page to try to help the family.... Almost 4000.00 has been raised (much from other modeling board members and Trek fans) I really think we should rally as a Trek Toy community to help!! I personally will be donating.

Let's show that it doesn't have to be the 23rd century to conquer pain and hardship!!

Here is the gofundme page:

PS.... Thom was a huge Trek fan and a great guy.... I chatted with him via email several times and he was always warm and knowledgeable about Trek and model building.... His contribution to our toy collecting hobby has been invaluable.

Damn. I knew he had been sick, I didn't realise how bad.

I've only briefly communicated with him, but I am surrounded by his work as I type this, and have been in awe of his talent for years. My thoughts are with his family - if I had anything to spare right now, I'd donate.

Hey Zach, I was just thinking, would it be possible for you guys to do an article of sorts on Thomas - show some of his prototypes etc, for those of us interested? When I say article, I don't mean a big write-up, I'm just thinking a picture gallery with descriptions.

Just an idea. :)

You've seen all of his prototypes. They were what we showed in Previews and web stores and at conventions. Pretty much any photo on white or that blue fade, or in a display case.

Not sure there are any cosmetic changes between the new TOS and the old HD, but I'll show that sample off soon. Then the only thing left is the new Fed ship, which he put a lot of work into.
