Both have arrived! The detail on the Valdore is stunning, they really went and outdid themselves with this one. And the Nausicaan ship is pretty damn good, much better than I thought. I burned up eight cheap batteries in ten minutes last night, so my camera is out of action. However, I drafted a friend of mine to get me some today, so by tonight, expect pictures of both! I did get a couple of shots of the Nausicaan ship, anybody want to see them?

I didn't like them at first, but when I saw them in person, my opinion changed.
No offence to anyone, but how many Johnny Lightning stands have gone slightly slack because, in my case at least, you've taken the ship of so many times the ball joints flimsy? Or the micro machines stands that are now translucent yellow, or even the DST stands that I hear snap. Even some of my Futura bases have snapped when depluging them for transport. The only exception to this are Playmates, who have very stable bases that in my case are still lasting despite being decades old.
But, what I'm saying is, all the bases are uniform, they have a nice fabricy base, and a translucent "docking clamp" as I call it that detaches from the main base. If I move house, I know disassembling the Eaglemoss bases would be a lot easier than my Futura ships, or my even my Playmates ships. Sure, they may look ugly, but they look nice on the shelf, if you know where to look, they hold your ship up, and they're not flimsy.
And Eaglemoss are making 90 unique Star Trek ships. 90. I'd have never imagined that any company would've done that, ever. As far as I'm concerned, that's a win for me all round.
#77737 XL Review: Generations TNG crew
Posted by Redshirt#7 on 20 September 2014 - 06:28 AM
Goooood Morning Trektoy! Or afternoon after my computer binned this review, twice.
This time, I'm going to break my own rules. Whereas I would normally review one figure, I'm going to review seven, and some of them (in other words, a lot) don't have their accessories, are loose, and are very dusty.
Anyway, the Generations figures (a review in four parts!). As I'm sure your aware, for TNG's first movie outing the production team wanted some new uniforms, and, for whatever reason, they where ditched at the last moment. They where to expensive, they didn't look right, too much change for the viewer, it wasn't feasible, just some of the stuff I've heard over the years. One uniform was made, Geordi's, Le Var filmed a scene in it:
http://i83.photobuck...able/GENuni.jpg
And it seems to have survived:
http://www.google.co...start=0&ndsp=19
http://4.bp.blogspot...ype uniform.jpg
Despite what I think is a very nice uniform, the figures have been ridiculed for the lack of articulation and the uniforms. At first, I was in agreement, then I bought one....More on that later, but first, to the pictures!
Part 1: Jean Luc Picard and Beverly Crusher
Picard's card. It seems my Picard was an Italian import (FAS-BRO), the Worf's advertised are the wrong Worf's, and Lieutenant Commander Riker?!? Looks like someone got demoted.
His bio. Slightly inaccurate, but not as bad as others.
All figures in the Generations line come with one of these, a free poster! (shameless reuse of my stock material)
A front view. I love these uniforms, kind of a TOS/TWOK/TNG combination, rank on the chest and the sleeves, a division coloured neck, and a "flap". One thing of note is how bad the quality control is on some of the figures in my set, smeared eyes, paint leakage etc.
A close up of the head, the standard Picard sculpt. As you may have noticed, it seems Picard's eye is smeared (I do remember in an episode (Unification?) one of his eyes is slightly "off" in show)
A back view. You can see the collar better here.
Picard's accessories! His family album (an excellent accessory, as it was featured in the film), a TNG monitor, Tricorder, and Type 1 "Cricket" phaser, as featured in TNG season 1, "The Mind's Eye", and in Voyager's "In The Flesh".
Note: I don't have Dr Crusher's accessories or card back, she originally had a Med Kit, a Medical Tricorder, a flask, and a Type 2 phaser.
A front view. Differences between the male and female uniforms include the lack of "flap", and a longer black area across the belly and around the back (as shown in the concept art: http://tinypic.com/v...=5#.VB0-YpUtDIU ). (Sorry about the dust)
A close up of the face. Compared to my other Dr Crusher's, her face seems more "made up".
A back view.
That's it for this part, part 2 coming up in a couple of minutes!
#77653 Other action figure lines that are compatable with Playmates?
Posted by Redshirt#7 on 14 September 2014 - 03:01 AM
Oh, lord, I never knew what a cone head was till I googled it, that's going to stay with me for awhile. On a more serious note, the bodies maybe useful (some jackets, robes etc).

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I'm Vic Fontaine.
Season 6 Kira and Odo
Dax and Worf (Dax needs a bit of work)
Ben Sisko, my favourite Captain, with a new painted accessory, a TNG phaser rifle.
DS9 crew assembling
Vic Fontaine! (the main reason why I started making customs)
Lore from "Datalore"
Pakled captain
Klingon knife
Blood stained Bat'leth
Enjoy!

Very professional, and a very nice idea as well! Their all fantastic, but my personal favourites are the Doc, Seven, Harry, Chakotay, and Janeway.

Thanks Jay K! I'm really glad you like my pictures, my secret? A plain piece of paper propped up against my old PC, with a torch in one hand and the camera in the other. I had trouble trying to get some good shots, but here's what I took:
I, like you, think they nailed the colour perfectly. Not too silver, not too purple either. Any other pictures you want, just ask!

I'm really low on time due to work related stuff, but I just got my Maquis raider and the Jem'Hadar fighter. I'll take lots more pictures tomorrow afternoon sometime, but I managed to take a couple of pics, to tide everybody over.
I make no exaggeration, these are some of my favourites from the line, and are some of the best, two stunning ships that I'd highly recommend. The detail is stunning, but enough talking, pictures!!
Any requests, just ask.

First of, I hope this is OK by the moderators, FHC, and the overall community.
Recently, I've been taking lots of photos of my Playmates figures, and I've been posting them in Random Thoughts. But to be honest, I've been taking so many I don't want to seem like I'm "spamming" the thread. So, I thought, why not make a topic?
The idea is that you post anything Playmates related, stuff that doesn't necessarily fit anywhere else. Ship flybys, away teams in the grass, group shots of figures, anything you don't feel goes anywhere else, post here if you like.
I'll start of by posting a picture of some fun I had with my Innerspace/Strikeforce figures:
"(Worf voice) Sir, I recommend we raise shields."

Good guess, but it's actually Picard's head! I have five spare Picard heads and two spare Lore bodies, so I thought, why not? I'm very pleased with the fact he looks different to Picard.

So, after my success of my first review, what better way to follow it up with another one?
I held a little vote, and it was unanimously decided that DS9 Tom Riker would be my next review, so what am I waiting for?
A little story. According to various bits of info I've heard, mainly from a thread around here, Tom Riker was meant to be the DS9 version of Barclay or Ogawa, a background character you'd commonly see. Apparently this was to some degree confirmed by Mr Frakes at a convention some time ago, though don't quote me on that. Tom did make it to DS9, albeit in a TNG command uniform in "Defiant", as a Maquis terrorist .
Here's Tom's official bio courtesy of Memory Alpha :
http://en.memory-alp...ki/Thomas_Riker
To the pictures!
A front view, boxed. Just like Jake-O, despite the fact he has a TNG badge and base, he has the Generations badge on the box
You can see all of Tom's accessories, plus his POG, and of course, Tom himself.
A back view. Strange, he has a different arrangement of characters compared to Jake, with people from both the second wave of DS9ers and some from the generic "Star Trek" wave.
A close up of the bio.
Tom's accessories. From left to right: "Scanner" (in fact a TNG prop that's turned up about a 100 times as different things, thanks to Jpatrik for the help in locating what it was), a type 2 phaser experiencing some kind of, err, sub molecular inverted phase pulse or something looking at the stream, a DS9 monitor (actually a monitor Dr Crusher uses: http://tng.trekcore....nerlight249.jpg , and I believe a computer game console re-purposed in S1 of TNG. Also note the fantastic Wormhole graphic on the screen.), a standard issue tricorder, and his POG.
It's a base! (Vreenak style voice)
Tom, freed at last. It's basically an O'Brien body with a Riker head (to be honest he's painted better than my actual O'Brien!).
A close up. Sorry about that white fleck of dust or something on his head, the badge is particularly painted nicely.
And finally, Tom with his phaser and the not so DS9 monitor DS9 monitor
Would I recommend him?
I'm going against common opinion, and I'd say "hell yes". Sure, he never showed up in an episode, but it makes it more appealing for me. In my mind, he's "an alternative Tom Riker from a parallel universe", it's like the Generations TNG crew for me, I'm a sucker for alternative universe stuff and this exactly my sort of thing. Good sculpt, good accessories, good articulation, and very few problems.
Price?
I paid £7 for him, about on par with a regular MISB box figure in my country. Not to mention he was never officially released in my country, and he's one of the last I need to complete my collection, I'd say it was a very good deal!
Playability?
Well, the fact he isn't in an episode limits it, I suppose. But in my mind, adding the alternative universe spin gives him a range of possibilities.
If you'd like a particular picture, or a better view of one, don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks for the replies!
The Runabout looks fantastic, though it has one problem. They've added a roll bar, meaning I'm going to have to buy at least another one to take the bar off.
Them crafty fiends at Eaglemoss.

DS9 Tom Riker it is! He should be up tonight. I bought him for the sake of completion, but he's actually pretty good in my opinion. More in the review!
