I've been meaning to add, thanks for the info Fat Valentino, and sorry for not replying in my previous post. Those figures look fantastic, I think I'll be going to my pound stores more often! I don't mean to offend, and I hope you don't mind me asking, but is the big cat looking guy a specific alien? To me, he looks a bit like a Kzinti or a big Catian.

CB2001

Sure! It's a pain to take photos of, so some of the photos may be of a substandard quality:

The "Mud pit". You can drop a figure in it, and the plastic flips around and your figure disappears. Or it should, if your 3.5 inches tall.

Riker being kicked into the pit. At last, an explanation for his ripped uniform!

That huge statue unfolds to be a large staircase, or ladder as shown.

If anyone wants any specific pictures, just ask, and I'll see what I can do!

Thanks for your kind words, I'll post a finalised pic when he's done.

Oh, lord, I never knew what a cone head was till I googled it, that's going to stay with me for awhile. On a more serious note, the bodies maybe useful (some jackets, robes etc).

I thought I'd include an additional possibility for figures in the same scale. Back in the mid-1990s, there was an action figure line for the movie "Stargate", with Kurt Russell and James Spader. I spotted on on the card earlier at a comic/collectible store, and it looked to be the same size as the "Aliens" figures.

Sorry, for the very late reply but yes, they do seem to be the same size as the Alien folk. Also, the alien figures from Independence day seem to be usable, and the "Real Ghostbusters" line seems to be a similar size to 4.5 inches (I've got my eyes on the firehouse to use for Dixon Hill).

Also, while unconfirmed, I've got a hunch that most doll house furniture is roughly in scale with Playmates, particularly useful if you were to make an office for Dixon Hill, or a Ten Forward (lots of modern chairs seem appropriate for a custom playset)

Due to real life, I've been busy of late, so unfortunately I haven't had a chance to explore the ideas we've shared here till now, of which I'm sorry to let anyone down. Depending on how things go, I "should" have multiple posts coming this way as I've bought some Alien stuff, and Terminator stuff. I've also got plans to visit my local toyshop, a guy I've known all my life essentially. He has two huge crates of old battered figures last time I was passing by, so I'll hopefully be visiting sometime over the new year with a "size chart" I've constructed, and, with any luck, I'll be coming away with some new things to show here.

Meanwhile, back in Quarks:

15901518447_5f26ae94f4_z.jpg

Terminator 2 figures are about a head taller than a regular Playmates figure. A bit big, but considering it's Arnold Schwarzenegger, it's not too much of a size stretch. Also in the pic is my Old Green Lantern figure from the 80's, also in scale with Playmates.

More to come soon I hope!

Excellent picture. :D  Don't worry about the long time for the reply. It's safe to say a lot of us have many things going on.  But, hey, that's life for you.  Glad to see you're going to make a size chart for the figures you're going to recover (hey, you never know what you'll find). For the Real Ghostbusters figures, the figure sizes vary due to the characters.  I think Egon and Peter are actually taller than Winston and Ray.  I can't be sure if they're in the same scale or not, but if you've already compared them with the Playmates figures, than you've definitely found another set to go with.  The Ten Forward Playset sounds like an awesome idea, as well as the Dixon office.   :D

Yeah, the Terminator 2 line is slightly bigger than the Aliens/Playmates figures.  However, as I've pointed out before, the only figure from the T2 line that's in the same size as the Aliens/Playmates figures is the John Conner figure. All the other Terminator figures would practically be towering over the figures.  But then again, Arnold is a pretty tall guy anyway. In fact, seeing your picture reminds me of a series of videos on YouTube called "Fan Service."  You can check out the videos here: https://www.youtube....ionmedia/videos

Thanks, and great to hear from you. Thanks for the understanding. Indeed, it might be tomorrow as my area in the UK is forecast heavy snow, so I want to get there as soon as possible! Any updates on that or on the stuff I've got coming, I'll post immediately here. The chart, or the one I've constructed, is relatively simple. I had a piece of flat white cardboard, I got a Picard, Sisko, Riker, DS9 Worf and Troi and drew around each of them with a pencil. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, while looking through the crates, I'll pick a potential recruit and measure up how big they are to my outlines, then either put them in the wanted pile, or put them back depending on compatibility. That is, if he's still got these loose figures available!

You see, I look through a lot of eBay auctions and, infrequently, a comic shop or a parent will put up a lot of loose figures. Infrequently these have Star Trek figures in, so I can draw a rough comparison between them and other stuff around them. That's how I found out about the Ghostbuster figures, an Egon in a white space suit looking outfit was around about the size of a captain's jacket Picard. I can get Peter for about three pounds online, if I don't find him, or Ray, Winston or Egon at the collectors shop, it might be worth the risk next month to buy him to, one, check the size, and b, to hang around in Quarks!

Thanks! I saw a friend messing around with some foam board, and it got me thinking, I could make something useful out of this! Though it could be months away before I try it, I keep finding stuff to do, so many things to do, so little money or time to do it, if you know what I mean.

True, and I remember the fantastic pictures you took, very helpful when I bought myself a power loader a couple of days back. I still bought a T 800 exoskeleton though! I'll take some pictures, I'm aware he'll be pretty big, but I'm a sucker for Terminator stuff.

Thanks for the link! I'll be sure to check it out once I can have the volume up (damn Christmas programs..)

I've been thinking, and searching, on this subject. I did some research into Kenner, and 4.5 inch figures and playsets.

I'm not 100%, but I believe it's possible these Robocop figures are in scale with Playmates 4.5 inchers, though I'm not sure

4079_l.jpg

A look through Kenner's licence list on Wikipiedia yielded some more interesting results. I know for a fact this women:

48daa87f61170_30813b.jpg

From Gargoyles is the same height as Riker

Further digging yielded three other potential lines of interest that I'm going to research, as I'm not sure on size:

The Shadow

The Karate Kommandos

!B-BLqz!EGk~$(KGrHqV,!hcEze(RE2G7BM7bwE(

The Last action hero

1119_1_lg.jpg

And Bill and Ted's excellent adventure.

Also, while looking at Marvel playsets, I found this:

XMENTBBV-4.jpg

The figures in this playset I'm pretty sure are the same size as a 4.5 incher. A bridge or engineering playset methinks?

Any updates and I'll post!

The RoboCop line I can confirm is almost to scale with the Aliens figures.  The RoboCop I have (the one in the middle of the picture you posted) is slightly taller than Ripley (only by a few millimeters.  There was another company called Toy Island that did a RoboCop line as well, based off the third movie and the short-lived TV series which are actually dead-on in height to Ripley. In fact, here's a picture of both the Kenner figure and one of the Toy Island figures.  And as you can see, the Kenner figure (on the right) is only a few millimeters taller than the Toy Island figure (left), and subsequently, the Ellen Ripley figure from the Kenner Aliens line:

3818159395_f60221cfe4.jpg

I can confirm that the Last Action Hero figures are actually bigger than the Kenner 4.5 scale. In fact, I have the Jack Slater with the brown coat and the Terminator figure in the picture you posted.  Both are the same height (which is the same height as the figure you posted with the Playmates figures in the Quark's bar picture.  In fact, much like the John Connor figure, there's a Danny Mannigan figure that's smaller than the Arnold figure, but it is still oversized in comparison to the John Connor and Playmates figures).  The Shadow line is also bigger than the Playmates line (I have one of the figures from the line, standing at 5.5 inches), as well as the Bill and Ted figures (yes, I also have those as well, they're 6 inches tall).  The Toy Biz figures were always slightly bigger than the Kenner, so the X-Men Headquarters set may be slightly bigger in comparison to the Playmates figures (also 5.5 inches, but size varies depending on the character, ranging from 4.75 to 5.5 inches, depending on the sub-line, i.e. X-Men 2099, X-Men Classic, X-Men: Generation-X, etc).  However, despite the size, you may be able to still use it for a custom Star Trek playset.  But you're also welcome to check out the information on the figure lines to confirm, or if you like them, you can go for them and use them for other customs.  I can't remember if I've shared this link before, but Figure Realm has a good list of the figure lines and their subsequent sizes (some of them are listed, others not).  But still useful if you need it (figure lines can be located by title via the Checklist section: http://www.figurerealm.com

The irony of the Demona figure from Gargoyles: on the show, she was voiced my Marina Sirtis, who played Troi in TNG.  Also, Jonathan Frakes (Riker) provided a voice for a character on the same cartoon, and I do believe that character.

Wow!! Superb information, as always. I'm very grateful for supplying me, and the overall community, with this kind of info.

That's excellent news about the Robocop figures, and thanks for the informative read on the size of them as well.

I saw a figure of Danny today, and he's bigger than Worf! Those Arnie figures might be useful though in the future, and thanks for the excellent info on Shadow and Bill and Ted, I'll make sure I remember that.

The only figures I had as a kid was Marvel Toybiz stuff, so trust me, I knew that the size varied a lot, particularly when a regular sized guy was larger in action figure form than Hulk.

I knew some of the TNG cast where involved, but I didn't realise she voiced that particular character! I think Dorn was also involved along with others from TNG.

And thanks for that link, I'll be sure to have a look around!

So this morning, I was woken up by the sound of a delivery man with this:

15935128798_af458d890e_z.jpg

My Aliens lot! Some great shots where taken of Alien stuff before in this thread, but I thought, why not take a few more pictures?

16121834322_20a016cb55_z.jpg

15935274430_499f07a750_z.jpg

(I realise it isn't Drake's gun, but he's keeping it safe till I get Ripley)

The evac, with some modifications I'll be doing, will be a Romulan shuttle. Here it is with a Romulan inside.

15936802927_2500e09c9b_z.jpg

15936503729_bb58bcf3e2_z.jpg

Obviously, a figure can fit in the prison pod (here, Riker's been tormented by a Romulan. Riker, being terrorised by aliens you say? Some things never change)

15935230438_4b158649e1_z.jpg

And finally, a Romulan in the truck

And of course, I went to the collectors shop!

Here's what I got:

16121846592_b354babd23_z.jpg

And a break down:

15935173318_96d1ce5a8c_z.jpg

Some of the Stargate guys. About the size of a Romulan, but pretty small when compared to Picard here.

16120704811_59b1bb8511_z.jpg

The first figure I had to research, Koopa from Super Mario, by ERTL. One of my favourites, he fits in well with a body build like Worf

15935181238_7c19632ba5_z.jpg

Another guy I had to research when I got home, Shang Li/Li Shang, a McDonalds toy from Mulan

16096817686_6f991805e0_z.jpg

He also has this pretty strange "slapping feature" where if you squeeze his legs, his arm flies out, as pictured

15500316144_fb49be87d6_z.jpg

Will Scarlet from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, sans jacket which is currently being cleaned by my other half at this moment

16120717431_b67611a27c_z.jpg

My only unknown. He hasn't got any trademarks, which I assume means he's a poundshop esque toy. Still, pretty cool, and another favourite.

15502926333_fcab1f1b4a_z.jpg

Kang the Conqueror.  If you hadn't guessed, I'm a pretty big Marvel fan, and have been all my life. This guy's a pretty big Marvel villain, and a favourite of mine, a time traveller with almost exclusive malevolent intent, but a bit more sophisticated than your average Supervillain. I thought he would be pretty cool to have terrorise Picard or Kirk on my shelves.

15935353010_e505456cdf_z.jpg

And finally, I had to buy a Terminator! He had a boxful of them, but I hadn't seen one with his distinctive shades before so I bought him along with everyone else above. His belt strap swivels and flips a huge canon on his back up, pretty damn good and fun.

So, I have one more Terminator in the post, and a power loader, but other than that, that's it for a month. I may have a scrap of paint left, and if I do, I'll do some customizing with some of these and, no doubt, post the results here.

In between, I'll see what I can find online and amongst my own collection!

Nice snags!  I guess my guess about the Stargate figures were slightly off.  The Will Scarlett figure looks like it'd be useful in making a teenager figure going by the size of it. Good snags on the Aliens vehicles.

You know, I just had a thought: when it comes to the 1/18 scale figures (G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Marvel Universe, and the Galoob ST:TNG line) are scaled down enough to pass as the bodies of children for the Playmates line.  So, maybe if there's kid characters from the series that you want to do, you could possibly look at the 1/18 scale to make them? I'm just tossing that idea out there for the Playmates figures (maybe I'm wrong on it) see what you guys may think.

Thanks! Oh no, their still pretty useful. Plus, I didn't break the bank. Due to the three Transporter figures and Arnie I bought, the grand total for all those figures was £2, so as the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing lost. We now know the Stargaters are a little too small, but maybe of use in the future.

I was thinking the same, or just an alien whose a little on the small side. For some reason, Will's really grown on me.

Thanks on the Aliens stuff! It was a perfect lot, a good mix of stuff to see weather they were worth investing in and, I must say, they are. I'm planning a Starfleet commando team specialising in fighting Jem'Hadar with some marines I'll be hopefully buying at the beginning of January. Paint the jackets/vests/shirts either red/blue/yellow and do any further modifications (boots/shoulder armour) depending on figure and I should have a pretty decent team.

That's a fantastic idea! I'm just going through my action figures that have been packed up since I moved, and I specifically was thinking that I could make a Nog from say, a 2009 Playmates figure, and perhaps a head that looks like Nog, Mutt Williams from Hasbo's Indiana Jones or something with obvious modifications. While a Starfleet uniform may be hard (and I still want to do it), I'm sure some Jedi robes would work for his early season look.

While I've got the time, I've been looking through my own action figures. So far I've raided my Indiana Jones collection and my original Marvel toys. I've got a Crystal Skeleton, another parasitic alien from Marvel, and a huge green robot looking guy that might be of interest that are in scale, more or less, with Playmates.

More soon!

Actually, the idea of using the 1/18th scale figures as children characters was something that came to me when I was looking at the Kenner Aliens figures.  I mean, I know that the figure line was actually based off of a failed cartoon adaptation of Aliens (sort of like how there was one for Ghostbusters.  The series would have been called Operation: Aliens, which the figures' and vehicle designs are based off of).  Since I'm a fan of the movies, I've been wondering on how to do a Newt figure to go with Ripley (I considered maybe modifying a Jurassic Park action figure, amongst many other options), and when I was looking at the Galoob TNG figures in my collection, it got me wondering if they could be used.  So, I compared the Picard figure with the Ripley figure, and realized that a 1/18 scale adult figure could be used for Newt.  And then I began thinking, Well, since the Kenner Aliens figures are the same scale as the Playmates figures, then they may be able to be used for children characters in the show as well. Maybe with some minor modifications, it's possible to make children characters like Ian Andrew Troi (Deanna Troi's son from the episode "The Child") or maybe even the younger versions of Picard, Guinan, Ro and Keiko (from the episode of "Rascals", when they got turned into children due to a transporter malfunction).

The Will Scarlet figure reminds me of the teenage kid Jono from the episode "Sudden Human."  I guess its the hair.

LOL @ your pictures.  I'm glad to see you actually had a battle between Picard in the Powerloader and the Borg.  I myself have only a small number of Borg figures (This includes two of the regular drones, one Locutus, the Borg Queen, Seven of Nine during her transition from Borg to Human, and two Seven of Nines in Mostly Human form, both in the Silver outfit, all loose.  And one Locutus on the card from the Holodeck series, basically with a chrome chest and torso), so I don't have the ability to do a large scale battle like that.  Still an awesome picture.  I've definitely got to do more of the Crossover stuff when it comes to action figure pictures.  I've done a couple, but this is the closest Star Trek related one I've done.  It's call "Han Solo vs. Will Riker.  Han Loses." The idea behind it is that Solo and Riker were about to fight, but Solo realizes that Riker must have read his book called "How to Win a Fist Fight by Shooting First."

Logical reasoning and a very good idea. If you do make a Newt figure, I'd certainly be interested in seeing it. Thinking about children Star Trek wise, they made Keiko and the Chief, but no Molly or Kirayoshi, so perhaps, while Molly isn't at the top of my list to make, it's certainly something I'd consider making in the future. Also, a past project that I'm looking at restarting is using a 3.5 inch Star Wars figure (Lobot, at the moment) to make a pair of Bynar's (by the way, it seems quite possible that new 3.5 inch TOS and TNG figures will be produced this year sometime, perhaps yielding some stuff we could use)

Yes, I can see the resemblance in him. I think it's also the eyes, very much like Jono. Christian Slater is 5 feet 8 1/2 inches according to Google (he also made a cameo in Undiscovered Country as an Excelsior officer, so perhaps useful in that respect).

While on the subject, I'm looking at making a big investment into the Robin Hood line, due to an idea I had. I got my first Playmates Chakotay in Maquis gear today, and when I sat him on my desk for some photos for an upcoming review, I noticed that Will Scarlet looks pretty Maquis-ish with his plain simple clothes, which got me thinking, why not get Robin Hood and his merry men, tool them up with phasers and disruptor rifles, and use them as Maquis guys? I'd been looking at recruiting people from other lines for Maquis redshirt's for awhile, but kind of side lined it. Seems the answer was under my nose all along!

Thanks on the pictures! Oh, ignore them Borg. Someone was unloading a large lot of Romulans/Borg and almost every loose lot I buy on eBay has a Borg, so it's unavoidable that I've ended up with a few (not that's a bad thing).

Hahaha! Great picture, looks like Han brought a fist to a phaser fight, and no re-edit of the movie will save him this time. "Riker shot first" would be great for a pretty confusing t-shirt.

Inspired by your Solo shot:

15990174510_ea33207fce_z.jpg

"I'm not Han Solo dammit!"

I should have some pictures up tonight of a couple of things, along with some other research.
