So I imagine we'll get some new images of stuff at NYCC...

First bit of news from my question on Facebook, no new Federation ship yet. The NX-01 is possibly a near production model though, so that might be interesting.

Did you actually think we'd see the new Federation ship? They can say all they want about showing Trek but they're all re-releases or a couple of the things we've seen over the past year.

At this point, I don't think we even get another completely new Federation ship. I think they've scrapped the whole project mid process for whatever reason and are now concentrating on the re-releases and the Romulan BoP.

I think the focus for Star Trek fans at NYCC will definitely be on Mega Bloks but I'm sure DST will have some kind of Star Trek presence. I'd be surprised if we didn't see a new select prototype but it's probably going to be mostly re-issues of their Mego line and things we've seen before on show. I'd expect them to put out a big display for the 50th at next years Toy Fair and SDCC.

DST should just mess with us at this point with an announcement like this:

I know many of you would like to see a greater variety of ships, sooner.  However, we are reliant upon retailer support for every big item we produce.  Ever defiant of these odds, we stand sovereign amongst a field of toy companies a la Prometheus to bring you high quality merchandise.  I have a list of potential ships in my cube which we endevor to produce. We hope you understand and continue collektinga lot of of models, we have plans galor!

Figures.com just posted "and more" pics on the NYCC DST coverage and had a few Trek items shown. DST has the NX-01 , TNG Phaser, Fem Troi, Worf bank, some previously released mego figures The only new I saw was the Mego Cheron and two different Red Shirt Security guys (Mego). If that is what they call new stuff I'll pass on the generic red shirts. Rand, Chapel, TNG Klingon and Data is what I call new. Oh well. Here's a link to the new Mego pic:

Oh I just simply do not understand the mentality over at DST. It just feels as though they are always one step behind other toy companies of the same ilk by being overly secretive and kind of slap dash.

So ok Star Trek is not Marvel nor is it a line that has been all that popular beyond an established fan base and whilst I do feel that they have been royally screwed by CBS by not being given the rights to produce new movie product to keep their line fresh beyond the fan base, this has gotten silly!!!!

Something at DST has got to change. This secrecy and belief that if they show something that isn't quite approved or ready yet will cause fans to implode and go all Godzilla on DST is really backward. Fans of anything are passionate and will get irritated by delays etc but DST are pissing us all off even more by not showing anything but yet promising new product, For a year now there has been a new federation ship in development, surely that has gone through some stage of development? There has been sparse information on the next select figure beyond this forum, yet nothing beyond it. All DST are doing now is killing off any interest fans had in their line and if they think that by not showing or saying anything at all is going to somehow keep people invested in their line up to the point they do reveal something noteworthy then they are mistaken.

They run the risk of loosing fans interest in this line full stop and never coming back to it. They could show off a huge Star Trek display next toy fair and it wouldn't matter. With other companies out there producing Star Trek product, leaving it long periods of time without showing new product will eventually kill this line dead. That's a shame because with just a bit more attention given to it, this would be the definitive Star Trek toy range on the market.

We're not talking about much here guys [at dst]. A nice, exciting display of Star Trek product and development stuff to get fans excited about your stuff again. Even a poster created in Photoshop teasing a new figure or a new ship or both under the banner "Star Trek at 50... New product from DST Launching 2016" would be something. But instead we get a handful of items we've already seen. Surely a line as established as Star Trek deserves a bit more pomp and ceremony even if it isn't Marvel.

My hope is this, that DST will wow us at NYTF 2016 with a very special 50th anniversary display. A display of items that they have produced over the 12(?) years that they've had this licence and another display of new items that showcase the next phase of DST and Star Trek. Three select figures, two new ships with a third being shown in development, props and role play and a poster announcing that at SDCC, diamond select and CBS consumer products will be venturing into the alternate universe with product based upon JJ Abrams 2009 "Star Trek" motion picture with a teasing image of DST's Enterprise from that movie.

It's actually been about two years, maybe more (bad memory on my part). I consider it unfortunate that they're so slow getting their products shipped, but the thing that really does bother me, is the total secrecy - it's ridiculous.

Lets see if we can get some better pics of that phaser, it looks like the one they previously showed which appeared to be an Ed Miarecki design.

Maybe it's just an opinion through the eyes of a staunch Star Trek nerd but I find Diamond so frustrating and lacklustre sometimes!!! In what I'm guessing as nearly 12 plus years, DST have given us a huge amount of Star Trek product with what has come out more recently as being some of the best product they have ever given us in terms of quality and bang for our Buck. The Klingon Bird of Prey, the Enterprise D, A and E, the four Star Trek select figures! It's all been great stuff but yet I am still so bloody annoyed with their weird fear that by saying or showing anything new or different or incomplete or not yet released is going to somehow blow up in their faces? Because showing nothing or the same stuff show in show out is not going to invite the same wrath of the fans? The mind boggles at just how backward DST seem compared to other companies of similar ilk.

When compared to Eaglemoss and just this past few days, Mega Bloks, Diamond just seem so tired and uninspired when it comes to Star Trek. I'm not sure why I feel this way because I am sure that all the people designing for Star Trek are passionate about their work if not Star Trek itself.

My feeling is this though, Even though Rick Berman, Branon Braga and Co. Were as much in love with Star Trek as they were when they began and still doing a damn good professional job with Enterprise and Nemesis, I think they all knew it needed some new blood for better or worse to be injected into it.

I think maybe the same is true for the guys at Art Asylum. Maybe it's time for DST to get another group of designers to design for Star Trek? Star over with a new design house and bring to a close this 12 year era of Star Trek product done by Art Asylum. With the passing of Thomas Sasser, which is probably why we've yet to see the next Star Trek ship, maybe it's time to close this chapter and do something familiar yet totally new with their Star Trek licence?

Just a thought but I dunno with the 50th round the corner, I'd have expected a bit more this year from diamond because anything they show at toy fair and SDCC next year won't be available until 2017 at the earliest which completely misses the biggest year for Star Trek and an opportunity for DST to do something awesome and actually really special to ignite our collecting passions again.

It also really annoys me that whilst Eaglemoss can attend Star Trek events and showcase new product to get fans excited, diamond select can't? To me they have an opportunity to double their sales or at lest generate some buzz surrounding a new line by attending these conventions (Las Vegas, Destination London and Germany etc...) it just seems as though diamond have kind of run out of new ideas.

Well, here are a few:

- similar to hot toys, hasbro' black series. Why not number your action figures? Make them highly collectable.

- promotional material in printed publications and at conventions advertising the next Star Trek ship. Why it's taken so damn long for you guys to say that the next Federation Ship is the Reliant I do not know!

- tie the action figures into specific on screen scenarios rather than generic action poses. Include as much articulation and character specific accessories as other select lines such as Ghostbusters and Gotham...

- team up with Gentle Giant or Jean St Pierre or some new up and coming designers to do sculpting for a new line!

- the ships are awesome! Focus on those and keep that fleet yard going by not allowing your fan base to loose interest. Clearly it takes a long time to get these ships developed but choosing the next ship should be easy right? So why not announce it and commit to the order on the list of ships you want to do and then as one ship is shown for the first time at a con, the other two are shown as in early development and displayed as a nice graphic poster at the same con! Why not do what Eaglemoss have done and reach out to the likes of Mike Ocuda and Dan Curry to help do something that will excite and intrigue fans! Ocudagrams are awesome! Fans love an Ocudagram!

It's too easy to pass fans off with lame excuses when other companies are capturing the excitement with their own product.

The only excuse dst often use that I think holds any water is that DST are just not set up for anything other than what they are doing now which is pretty sad when other companies are continually improving and exciting their fans with new ways of getting product out to them.

There's so much they could do with Star Trek but man what really blows is that I don't think we're going to get anything more than what we've been getting for the past 12 years... Hold on tight it's going to be a turbulent, disappointing ride with hints of pure awesome highs only to be crushed by long periods of crippling lows.

1701D you said what I've been feeling for years. DST's lame excuses are getting old. It's the 50th anniversary of Trek!!!!! Where's the product to celebrate it????? Mega Blocks has got me excited for their Trek items. Too bad it'll be another year away before we see it. Just hope they make a bridge set.

I think the sad part is that DST is comfortable with their current, and past, performance. I think they have no need to change the status quo. Thus this is just another complaint which may be responded to but ultimately will not be answered.

I think if DST didn't make statements they usually don't back up fans wouldn't get irritated. I understand the annoyance that delays create... Especially when DST promises us a lot then has a rep tell us that wasn't exactly what they promised.

I honestly have lost my excitement for Trek altogether.... The franchise is just too difficult to get amped for.

I think you're right Prometheus. The only way for DST to reasses what it is they do with their Star Trek line is for it to not sell and for fans to stop supporting it.

And although I am looking forward to the next movie, these movies (as with all Star Trek movies) are just place holders until someone announces they're doing a TV series (80 years on from Picard, 25th Century in which the universe would look and feel a lot different, just how it did from TOS to TNG so you're not beholden to anything that has happened in any of the pervious series or movies with exception to Romulus being blown away which could work in someone creative enough' favour.)

Until a new Star Trek series comes and until that new Star Trek series becomes a hit, I don't think we'll see anyone take on Star Trek with a fully fledged toy line.
