#98079 Star Trek Playmates Toys Youtube Video

Posted by bgiles73 on 27 October 2023 - 12:29 AM

Im going to be kind of going off the topic of this thread but it kinda relates to your point of not having any cool biography or technical information on the Playmates Packaging. I sure miss those blueprints. Paramount certainly isnt blameless in this either. Where are the Star Trek Technical Books, The Encyclopedias, Compendiums, etc? They had a Cutaway painting of the JJ Abrams Enterprise in an issue of Popular Mechanics. Why wasnt this on a poster we could have on our wall? Star Wars had all those DK books with cut-away pictures of Starships and World Maps and books covering characters and Tech from all the movies. I want to buy such things for Star Trek but its not to be found.

That would not surprise me at all that they made no effort to touch base with Paramount to insure accuracy of products. The way they are phoning the line in now and showing absolutely no sign of attempting to communicate with buyers who could ultimately make this toy line a success shows they have not learned a thing from past failures. I notice public opinion of Playmates is spiraling rapidly downward and it is certainly deserved.

I bet the Star-Fleet Corps of Engineers forgot the saucers bottom phaser array on Veridian III!

For $15K I had better be able to live comfortably inside the thing because Im sure my girlfriend wouldnt be having that. Im plenty happy with the Playmates Enterprise D. I really wish Jazwares would resurrect Star Trek MicroMachines. What they are doing with Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron is pretty incredible. Im sure it would translate well with Star Trek!

According to this Hiya will have 6 Star Trek figures as well as 4. They apparently have a license for all of the Star Trek live action shows and they are doing light and sound ships. Playmates just has no concept of Seize the Day!

I agree with you. I miss the days when Kenner had cardbacks showing the whole line of action figures and boxed toys had the little catalogs. I used to look at pictures of GI Joe toys and spend hours dreaming about what I wanted to add to my growing collection. I also really miss Department Store Catalogs and Wishbooks. I now find myself missing those Collector Magazines of the 90s - Toyfare, Tomart, etc. Internet websites are too insufficient to generate the same kind of experience.

Playmates themselves have confirmed the TOS communicator and Enterprise D on their Instagram feed. They really need to do better because not everyone follows social media. Theres also six figures coming that have only been shown at London Toy Fair. Hopefully Playmates will open up about future plans at San Diego Comic-Con and Star Trek Las Vegas Con this Summer. New York Comic-Con will be happening not long after and New York Toy Fair will be happening in October this year finally after a long absence. I think the positive takeaway from Playmates announcement on Instagram is that apparently online sales of Star Trek has been successful enough to warrant the continuation of their Star Trek line. I hope they will offer some kind of SDCC exclusive- Not something that wont be available to everyone that wants it but some kind of packaging variation. Nothing like that 1701 debacle from the 90s!

I am noticing a trend that as more people are getting their hands on Playmates Star Trek 2022 relaunch products, the negative reactions are also starting to lessen. Hopefully a good sign that people are buying the line. Theres definitely a vast amount of material to cover which could definitely keep this line going for years to come. I for one cant wait to get my hands on some new Klingons and Borg utilizing the new articulation and upgraded design. It will also be great if they can go with Hirogen and an M113 Salt Vampire. I really look forward to getting some of those obscure characters and aliens!

In all honesty, that spin around is too fast for me to really make a final judgment on whether its better or worse than the 90s one. About the wonky nacelle my 90s Enterprise suffered from this because the pylon socket loosened overtime. Im not sure from this video if they are made similarly to the old one or not. Maybe its something that can be fixed with a slight adjustment. They really should put a rigid metal frame inside the nacelle struts to correct this. I like that instead of stickers which look awful after a while, the registries and hull markings are painted on. True DST ships are hard to beat, but sadlythat ship has sailed.yep I went there. Hopefully Playmates will bring us more ships especially Klingons, Romulans, Borg and aliens.

#97532 Top 5 Figures You Want to See in the Relaunched Lineup

I would absolutely love a three pack from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home that looked like the inside of the San Francisco City Bus and we had figures of Kirk, Spock and The Punk with the Boom Box! I would also love to have another set that duplicates the scene of Spock in the tank with the Whales while Dr Taylor is giving her presentation. Two very memorable scenes all in one movie!

I really want to see figures from Enterprise. I have characters I want from all over the franchise and five choices isnt enough to cover it all but I guess to get the ball rolling I want:

Enterprise Season 1
1. Captain Archer
2:TPol
3: Trip
4: Dr Phlox
5: Shran

I want more than those and I would like Space Suits and other than just 1st Season looks, but for now thats a start!

I think you are all missing out on the best thing of all - With those ball-jointed hips you will finally be able to get Number One to do the Riker Manuever when straddling a chair. Also people are complaining about those open hands without even knowing if these come with weapon hands but did any of you honestly think that maybe we can finally get Picard to do a face-palm?

Im not really sure how many figures at a time Playmates releases for Ben 10 or TMNT but I am pretty sure its more than just six in a wave. Im also not really sure about how many waves they do of each annually. From just the pictures shown a couple weeks ago looks like they will have every other company that has attempted beat. Im not really minding the prospect of getting little bites
of one show and little bites from another show. That will offer up variety, but I do hope to get whole crews. As for stylized figures, I wont be troubled that Lower Decks characters resemble their animated counter parts. Prodigy has a realistic animation style that might just blend in enough to live action shows that it wont be too far of a departure in design. There is always that chance that Lower Decks characters could end up in live action shows. So maybe we might get some of those characters as realistic figures too.

I cant wait to start speculating on what we will see as more is announced. Im sure I am not the only one with years of wishlists of unmade characters.

Im not sure about that Razorgeist. I heard at one point old Ertl Model molds were used, but I think that may have been in the Diamond Select Years. I hope at some point trekmovie.com or some other source can get a Q&A going with Playmates Toys again. I know at one point I had a pretty good correspondence with a Paula Billingsley at Playmates Toys. She would often answer emails concerning Playmates products. Sadly I think she is no longer at Playmates. Im hopeful they might have a virtual presence for SDCC and the Big Vegas Star Trek Conand again this fall at New York Comic Con. Until then I plan to keep my eyes on Varner Studios Social Media like Facebook and Instagram!
