Very cool. Did you build the rest of the pieces yourself?

Haha, yeah, he told me he'd like to post it on Reddit - just funny that it found it's way back to me so quickly since I don't post there.

Anyway, the source I received it from asked for their identity to remain confidential because they only had the one set (obviously) and didn't want a bunch of e-mails asking for more when they don't exist. I can't even believe they existed, really, but, I figured you guys around here would be interested to see a complete version of the bridge.

It's too bad they never mass-produced them because it's actually pretty neat to see it all complete. Perhaps if they had just included all the pieces in the main bridge set to begin with, the line would have sold better?

First, let me just say that bridge is awesome! Moving on...

It's too bad they never mass-produced them because it's actually pretty neat to see it all complete. Perhaps if they had just included all the pieces in the main bridge set to begin with, the line would have sold better?

I honestly hated the 3.5" line for reasons I've stated many times before, but I definitely would have been willing to pick it up if I knew that I would also be able to grab a complete bridge set to go with it. As much as I disliked the figures, the bridge would have definitely been what would have made me buy them; I'm pretty sure I mentioned this back in '09 when I criticized Playmates' handling of the line.

Honestly, just having both "waves" in stores on day one would have done miracles. People were holding out for wave two to buy wave one, wave one didn't sell so Playmates never made wave two, and wave one continued to not sell once reality that wave two wasn't coming set in. The "half a bridge" disaster definitely didn't help things; I might not have liked the figures, but having a bridge set (even one that blows compared to the TNG one from the '90s,) would have definitely given me an incentive to pick up the '09 Playmates line.

It's really amazing that you have the only complete bridge set, and truly a shame that the aforementioned bridge didn't get an actual release. I might not be a fan of the 3.5" scale, Playmates' '09 figures, or even the way the bridge set was handled, but as far as I'm concerned, more bridge sets are better than fewer of them.

EDIT: One question I forgot to mention. How did Playmates not learn from Art Asylum's (pre–DST) mistake a few years earlier? Back when the Enterprise toys were being released, Art Asylum packaged the figures with interconnectable electronic bridge bases. Unsurprisingly, they didn't do as well as planned, the Mayweather piece was cancelled, but Archer, T'Pol, and Reed(?) all had bridge bases that definitely had a following. I don't know if Playmates thought that ENT was "just a fluke," or that they could do better with smaller figures, or if they believed something else had changed, but I can't figure out why they didn't just release a bridge set like they did for TNG. After all, the TNG set was successful and the Art Asylum bridge pieces had a following, but sold poorly because of the show they were tied to.

That's really cool! Read about it on Reddit too. Does not exist anywhere else on Earth though!? LOL! I wouldn't be too sure about that, lol! It really is cool and it makes me wish Playmates at least released the rest of the pieces in a little set or something, just so others can complete the darn thing too. I would've liked wave two and all that other stuff too of course,as I actually liked what they did back then.

J-R!

You know what sucks about the whole thing?  It's just 4 additional unique pieces that are doubled to furnish the remaining 8 pieces that were still needed.  Glad someone was able to complete a set though.  I wonder how much it would have cost to just produce the 4 remaining pieces as a seperate item.  The transporter only needed one more piece...did that get end up in anyone's hands?

Ever thought about casting the missing parts and offering them up? It seems like there would be a market for them!

I know I would buy it to complete my bridge and transporter set.  Make it so!  Maybe have it 3D printed?

"...or perhaps with the advent of 3D printers, maybe replicas of the unreleased pieces will find their way into the hands of the disillusioned..."

Does that mean you would consider it?

I'm pretty disillusioned.

Maybe one day... if I can locate a 3D printer nearby and people are willing to foot the bill to attempt to replicate these pieces...

There are always possibilities... :spock2:

Wow! This is actually really cool. I never collected the Playmates 09 line, but if someone were to mold these up and sell casts or had replicas 3D printed, I'd be first in line as I've been dying to add the Enterprise bridge to my display for ages. Please, Kyle_C_Haight, make it so!

Also, did you by chance ask your source if there were any of the 2nd wave figures were made? I'd be very interested in owning the Keenser figure.
