#71583 The Worst Star Trek Movie Is...

Well, that's an interesting thought, VF, but I know quite a few people (myself included), who like Enterprise especially for being much closer to the original show and who cannot stand JJ-Trek at all.

And its sentences like this that justify my point...

Maybe people just don't know how to be a fan these days but in my opinion a fan is someone open to change and respects that the thing they are fans of won't always be done a certain way but loves it enough to stick with it and enjoy it as it comes.

This is rubbish. You asked me, what if TNG was a new show now, and I told you I wouldn't watch it if it looked like and was in the same storytelling style than JJ-Trek. I don't like the new style and kind of stories of the two new movies, why should I bother watching a TV show I wouldn't like? I didn't force anyone to watch Enterprise, either, which I personally found excellent. I don't watch stuff because it's called Star Trek, I watch stuff I like. If TNG was a new show and if it was good, I'd watch it.

And to quote you further:

"Your view on Star Trek is obviously different to mine and in general those who spend time talking about Star Trek online have a very specific view on Star Trek from those who don't talk about Star Trek online so who's right? Neither of us and both of us because Star Trek after nearly 50 years isn't just one thing and this is what I've been trying to tell you."

Obviously, I have a different view as well. But who's the one who has a problem accepting that? You cannot demand that people like the new way Star Trek is going just because you do.

And another quote:

"No matter what your personal tastes are, Star Trek (2009) and Into Darkness are relevant and are what audiences expect from not just a summer blockbuster but a Star Trek movie."

No need to generalize. They weren't what I expect from a Star Trek movie (or a blockbuster, come to think of it). And there are other people who see it like that.

@1701: If I want to see a Star Wars movie or a movie inspired by Star Wars, I'll watch Star Wars.

Plus, I never said Abrams' take on Wars will be good. I just think his approach to Trek would fit better to Star Wars (at least the new trilogy).

OK, question:

If TNG was a new show on TV today, what would that show look like?

Well, I just think that Abrams fits better to the new Star Wars era, and not to Trek. If TNG was a new show and was in the style and storytelling similar to JJ-Trek, I wouldn't watch it.

Some progress. I've finished the basic version of the helm console (still unpainted and without details) and the pedestal of the helm & captain's chair. The turbolift-door-part is also new.

The other day, I even had an idea of how I could make the chairs. So I tried to build a first draft (unpainted and without details). The backrest will be a little bit higher once i add the black part.

And yes, it is made of...

... a plastic spoon.
