#84855 The Future of the Diamond Select Star Trek line

Posted by ensignmelkor on 20 February 2016 - 10:28 AM

I'm not a fan of the Abrams-verse at all. The movies aside, I do like the Enterprise's beefier, more hot rod-style nacelles, but the neck of the saucer section is pulled too far back along the secondary hull. It just looks strange. If it was moved forward it would be a cool-looking update. Not a fan of the piddly little "pew!-pew!-pew!-pew!-pew!" Enterprise phaser effects either. I have no interest in getting any Abrams-style ships. What I want are TNG-era ships: The Enterprise-C, a Romulan Warbird, a Cardassian battleship, a Vor'cha cruiser. Other than that, some TOS-era Klingon ships would be cool.

I'd love a battle-damaged Enterprise-C--give it Rachel Garret / Tasha Yar clips and it would be awesome.

#84506 AA Q&A #302 Star Trek Half a Century! : No New Information

Unfortunately, if DST doesn't seen the need for more promotion, product teases, and better communication to keep fans interested, we're not going to change their minds. I don't even bother reading Ask DST anymore.

#83871 Video of the newly re-issued 1701 (TOS)

My HD Enterprise 1701 came in yesterday and I just wanted to drop a note thanking DST for doing a great job! The ship is solid, no flaws I can see, it looks great and scales really well with the rest of the ships DST has put out. (I know that technically the TOS Enterprise should be less than half the size of the Enterprise-D, but I actually prefer the way the DST versions look together.) I especially like how the nacelle lights shift from red to orange to yellow and back again. I also thought the sound clips were all very well chosen and the audio quality on all of them was perfect. Oh, and thanks for eliminating the "rust ring" this time around. It might be authentic to the studio model but it just looks too jarring on a replica of this size and that's the reason why I didn't go after the previous HD version that was released. And finally, kudos for the lights-on feature--the ship looks absolutely gorgeous with the nacelles lit up and the running lights blinking!

I have to say the TOS Enterprise is a bit of an odd (but lovely) bird sitting on the shelf next to all the movie ships and the TNG ships--the TOS Enterprise is a classic and I love it, but it doesn't really seem like it's part of the same ship lineage as the other Enterprises, probably because of the changes to the nacelles once the Constitution class was refit for the first movie. It looks something like a classic '57 Chevy next to a bunch of 2015 sports cars. Who's to say which is better? But here's hoping DST gives us a D7 so the classic Enterprise can have a proper TOS-era mate on my shelf!

The Next Generation introduced a number of great ships and it would be nice to see it represented by more than just the Enterprise-D.

Hi Zach,

I'm a first-time poster here and my love for Diamond Select Trek ships is what brought me to this board. So far I own The Wrath of Khan Enterprise, the Enterprise-B, the Enterprise-D, the All Good Things Enterprise, and the Klingon Bird of Prey from Undiscovered Country. (I also have the 2015 version of the HD Enterprise-1701 pre-ordered.) So I'm definitely invested in the future of this line. Since I've just started collecting, playing catch-up to get the ships I want through ebay and other online resellers, I haven't experienced the evident frustration some fans mention when they talk about the wait time between new ship releases and the occasional lack of new information provided. Reading your comments about this, I can completely understand why you guys wouldn't want to show pictures of prototypes in progress, as any little imperfections could lead to a flood of online negativity that really isn't fair considering prototypes are works in progress.

However, I'm not quite sure I understand your reasoning when it comes to not wanting to announce in advance your choices for which new ships will be produced. For instance, the next Federation ship is apparently being worked on but its identity hasn't been revealed. I guess you don't want to risk negative online reactions to ship choices, but wouldn't negative reactions in this type of situation be informative? For example, if the new Federation ship was something like the Botany Bay, which probably would be very far down on most fans' want lists behind the Enterprise C, the Defiant, Voyager, etc., and fans made their displeasure known, wouldn't that help you guys to realize that a more profitable choice could be made? I would think that, in the instance of ship selection, you guys might welcome feedback before you made a final decision and went into the production stage?

Anyway, I'd like to thank you for being a presence on these boards and giving us what information you can. It's appreciated!
