Here is my next project. The NX-01 Refit model kit from Polar Lights. Even though I am not a huge fan of snap together kits I wanted to do this one anyway. As always I will post pics of my progress. Im still trying to figure out what paint scheme to do with it. To stay with Enterprise or go more toward TOS or come up with something in between??? Decisions, decisions...

JMW..... That's an awesome kit from what I hear.... I personally would love to see one of these painted in the TOS Gray.... How cool would that look ! However you decide to paint it I know it will look great!!

Thanks Daysleeper. I will probably start working on it this weekend. I would like to see yours as well.

Prometheus I am still undecided. I think the TOS colors would look great but I may mod it a little. just enough to do some darker hull plating. Im also trying to decide if I want to take the time to drill out the windows or just paint them.

You know, I'm considering buying this, and I haven't bought a model kit since I was kid. I love the design, and I might, just might, paint it grey, but I'd say do what you think's best. Personally, if/when I do get it, I'd paint it something like this:

I'll be eagerly watching this topic!

Redshirt I like that idea. I guess it will all depend on how I feel when I start the painting process. Im looking forward to starting this one.

Nice.

Although I must say I still prefer the pre-refit NX 01. I bought the model, because I was planning to use some of its parts to make a custom Intrepid. Now that I know Eaglemoss will at some Point produce an Intrepid,  I'm considering to either build the regular NX and outfit it with Columbia's designation or build the refit-version. Dunno yet...

Daysleeper. When I saw that it came with the Columbia's decals too I started to seriously consider getting another one to build.

I will say that this is a sturdy kit. I am of course gluing all of my snap together parts. LOL. It is a sturdy little kit. I was transporting it to the kitchen counter last night to let a coat of paint dry and dropped it about 4 feet onto the tile floor. I was surprised to see nothing broke at all. I just had to re glue a nacel back on.

Second coat. A little darker. Will go back to a lighter shade to work on hull panels to give some contrast.

I got a little more done on this one. I am going to mix up some slightly darker grey to give a few of the hull plates a little different color next.

I have been working on one on and off now for a while..... Would you care if I shared some pics in your thread JMW?
I have been using light shades of Gray to the point where it almost looks white.... I definitely like your paint scheme better.

I have one complaint about this kit. The decals kind of suck. I did some more painting and then was adding some of the decals and these damned things are brittle as hell. They come apart and break and do not bend well at all like a lot of water slide decals do. The last two models I have bought were both like this. Im used to water slide decals that have a little more strength to them. These things break and come apart if you look at them to hard. And dont even think about applying them to an uneven surface. They will not bend or form themselves over it at all.  I am going to have to hand paint some areas now as a couple of decals virtually disintegrated as I was applying them. Other than that this is a really nice kit.

I've noticed that as well JMW with the recent Decal releases from Round 2..... I have to agree though that the kit is great. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
