I came across this site advertising pre-orders for the re-release of TWOK Enterprise. Anyone familiar with Kirin Hobby?  I haven't seen any other sites offering pre-orders for this ship in 2014.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the 2013 release having translucent plastic.  Is this legit and is it possible DST corrected that issue?

This is probably just another run of the re-release that they did this last year. It most likely isnt anything new and they probably haven't changed anything on it

I've mentioned it to the product manager. If it can be fixed, I'm sure we'll look into it.

Looks as if the saucer still is still translucent. Also the impulse engines have blue LEDs? Seems odd.

Zach, the lights above you washed out the detail. Any way you could give us a rundown of the revised paint scheme? Maybe a couple of close up stills? And as Will Decker pointed out, did you correct the light bleed issues?

This is translucent. Note that you can see DSTZach's hand through both layers the  saucer section.  I see the blue impulse engine lights now that the Commodore them pointed out...that is very strange.

Stormfury, in regards to your last query, check the video around 1:05. You can see Zach's hand through the saucer... :/ EDIT: Good and beaten, in style! :)

The deflector dish area looks to have been cured of the bleed though.

Perhaps the blue impulse engines are a result of the alternate timeline? Maybe the are "cold fusion" engines?  :D ... but really, they're gonna need to fix this.

Interesting article about LED's. I thought maybe DST was getting cheap by not using red LED's for the impulse engines.  It seems the opposite is the case.  "...a different fabrication process drives price – you can have a red, green or yellow LED for close to nothing; blue for two times that..."

Not too worried about the impulse engine. And it looks like they revised the weathering and line darkening.

Its nice that the light bleed seems fixed on the secondary hull, but yes the saucer is still very translucent. Step in the right direction though.

The ship did have blue impulse engines in at least one scene in the film. I like it.

To answer the OP I have used Kirin Hobby to order the Enterprise-B and the first Klingon BoP. No complaints.

I don't know about any revised paint scheme, aside from the deflector dish being a lighter blue. I'll try to take some shots soon.

That would be great. Thanks Zach.

Zach... I hope you understand...there is a shelf in my home that will NEVER be complete, until there is a matching USS Reliant sitting face to face with my USS Enterprise. I'm guessing I am not alone here and I have to assume you and the DST staff already know this...but I had to mention it.

Yeah... I went trawling through Trekcore to find a screengrab depicting that... but there wasn't one. I think I imagined it, sorry.

But I have seen it - maybe in TMP?!

In any case, if the lighting scheme hasn't been revised (the deflector seems a lot brighter, but that could be more translucent paint in use there - great improvement!), then the impulse engine light is a warm white rice bulb, and the colour is inherited from the paint on the impulse manifolds.

It's a relatively small revision to re-colour them before release, and if it doesn't happen, I wouldn't be too upset.

Actually, let me use my umpteenth edit to look at the bigger picture on this one:

Yes, the saucer is still somewhat translucent to natural light, but the secondary hull and the impulse pod, that were practically transparent to internal light, have both been superbly and appropriately light-blocked, only allowing light through in the appropriate places, like the "impulse crystal" - which is outrageously fantastic...

Bravo, DST.
