#97777 Here we go again... Playmates is back in the Trek business!

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 18 October 2022 - 12:10 PM

Greetings All,

I suspect that the USS protostar will likely be the next ship that Playmates rolls out as they have a full wave of Prodigy characters set to debut this fall as well. Paramount is hot to get the kiddos interested in Star Trek, so I think there will be a big focus on the Prodigy toyline since its the entry level media for the brand.

For me personally, Id love to see the SNW Enterprise and figures from that show. And as much as I adore the old Art Asylum Enterprise figures, I hope that Archer and Co get produced in the new Universe line.

Honestly, the best part about the launch of the new toyline is being interested and excited for new stuff to come.

Regards,

OAD

Greeting all,

Picard showed up today, and I have to say I think he is the best overall likeness for the line. Possibly ever for Playmates Star Trek. They added some very subtle wrinkles with the paint / printing similar to what they did with Saru and it looks quite good.

Id share pics, but Im still trying to sort that problem out.

#97708 Here we go again... Playmates is back in the Trek business!

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 18 September 2022 - 08:51 PM

Hello All,

Long time since Ive posted anything here, but Im still around and check in every now and again.

So, with regards to playmates return to Trek. Ive managed to procure the majority of wave one via Amazon, though I have been lucky enough to find a few of the figures in the wild at my local Target.

I can say that the figures are much better in person than the early pictures made them out to be. Of course, one must temper expectations, as these toys will never outdo what was done previously with the Art Asylum / DST offerings. However, these figures are a very welcomed update or reimagining of the original 90s line.

The likenesses are a little soft but decent.  The articulation is far superior compared to the OG line. And the accessories are basically reuses of the original molds.

As a fan of the original toyline, I am very happy with these.  They scratch the nostalgia itch and can work with the old line if you squint.

I found a video on YouTube that gives a pretty good look at the Enterprise toy and grabbed some screen shots.

I think that while it has some flaws, it will ultimately be much better in person.

I will try and post some pictures.  Its been a while though.

#92793 Star Trek - The Official Starships Collection

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 18 January 2018 - 06:18 PM

Greetings All,

Its been a while. I just recieved my Probert Concept Enterprise-C in the mail, and while I am quite pleased with the sculpt and look of the ship, it appears to be missing a lot of paint detail. My model is missing the black window details on the left top of the saucer, bottom left of the saucer as well as Aztec detailing on the forward top of the stardrive section and connecting dorsal. Has anyone else run into this issue?

I have sent pictures of the problem to Eaglemoss and am awaiting a response. Unfortunately, I do not seem to have access to.the photo hosting service I used to use anymore otherwise I would post them here.

Aside from the missing details, its a lovely ship that I never thought would get made.

#84894 NX-01 Re-Release

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 21 February 2016 - 11:44 PM

You are welcome, my friend.  I truly feel that DST knocked this one out of the park.   Placing it side by side with the original AA release truly make the new one shine.

Here's a few pics of the new NX next to the AA original

Really quite pleased with this ship. I hope someone makes a mod available to make it into the refit version.

And it comes with the old Art Asylum Enterprise coin!  Wasn't expecting that at all.

#84869 NX-01 Re-Release

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 20 February 2016 - 11:42 PM

Greetings All,

I was pleasantly surprised this evening to find that my new DST NX-01 had been delivered earlier in the afternoon. After spending some time with this ship I must admit, I am incredibly impressed with this release.  First and foremost, the paint is exquisite. The entire hull appears to be painted now in a silver and slightly aluminum base coat. The Aztec pattern on the hull looks great. There appears to be two shades of gray creating the complicated layered panel effect.   Overall. There does not seem to be much in the way of sloppiness to my ship. I may have one small area where someone fingerprint smudged a little of the paint on one of the warp pylons, but it's barely noticeable.   I am thrilled that the loading bay surface details are now present along with the base at the rear of the saucer.  They even painted both sets of panels for the play cover and stand base cover at the shuttle hanger doors which reads "danger - keep clear". I needed a magnifying glass to make it out, but it is definitely there.

The new electronics are pretty great too. While, I think the sound board is a tad slow sounding, it is easy to tell Archers voice. The sounds are crisp and loud and the new led lights shine brightly. The old light bleed areas from the original Art Asylum release have largely been corrected. There's maybe a few spots on the saucer that a little light peeks through in low light and a bit on the nacelles, but really it's not all that noticeable.   The lights on feature is fantastic!  I like the running hum and computer sounds, along with the silent lights on feature as well. I truly hope this feature is on all DST trek ships moving forward.

It should also be noted that the nacelles are now glued in place from the factory so no more nacelle pop off while flying her around the room. (Or admiring it while on a shelf or desk like most self respecting adults)

I must say I am very, very happy with this re-release of the NX-01.   Many have mixed feelings on Enterprise as a series, but I for one have liked it from the beginning and I've always loved the design of this ship. I was part of the old Art Asylum boards when this toy first came out and I can say without a doubt that she finally looks like she did in that first promotional picture of the prototype toy we were shown all those years ago.

I have yet to take some pictures of this beauty, but I'll try and get some uploaded later on tonight or tomorrow.

Go and get one, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

OAD

#83463 Video of the newly re-issued 1701 (TOS)

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 07 November 2015 - 09:51 PM

Greetings All,

As promised, here are a few pics of the new 1701 Enterprise I found at TRU earlier this evening. Overall, I am pretty pleased with it. Some of the window paint is a tad sloppy and the front windows on the base of the bridge are unpainted, but honestly, I think it's pretty great.   The sound selection on this ship is fantastic. How the "space, the final frontier" monologue has not been included on these toys until now baffles me.

At any rate, here are the pics...

#83462 Video of the newly re-issued 1701 (TOS)

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 07 November 2015 - 07:34 PM

Greetings All,

Not sure if this has been discussed already or not, but I just found what I am pretty sure is the new 1701 from DST at my local toys r us this evening. It was the only one I saw and did not see a dedicated spot for it, but it was found in the collector's aisle.

I am so pleased to have found it in a regular brick and mortar store. The packaging appears to be smaller than I remember it being the last time I purchased a classic Enterprise.

I'll snap some pics later on tonight. Just wanted to share in case anyone else is hunting for it.

Upon first glance in the package, the paint app looks nice and crisp. It is the lighter gray base coat with the grid pattern stenciled on the saucer. No rust ring from the hd version.

Happy hunting!

#83461 Finally, it's complete.

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 07 November 2015 - 03:59 PM

I can understand that !!!  When you finally find something you have been looking for I guess it would be very rewarding. I'm glad I could help !!!

Actually, Im building another C right now for OneAngryDwarf.... Its going to be similar to yours, Alterean, except that the dark gray will be more of a dark blue gray. If OAD wants me to I will post pictures in the everything else section.... I'm about 40% done with it now.....

Greetings All,

I am perfectly fine wish sharing pictures of the build with the forum. Heck, seeing Alteran's is what prompted me to reach out about th"c" in the first place.

Can't wait for this.

#81193 USS Enterprise A

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 16 May 2015 - 04:10 PM

Greetings All,

I too received my Enterprise-A about a week or so ago. I was taking some pics of it this morning and thought I'd share them with you good folks.

Please excuse their quality as I was shooting in my kitchen under natural light.

I just thought it looked neat.

Overall, I think she's pretty great. I personally like the color and paint apps over the old Art Asylum release and the more opaque plastic look great compared to the Wrath of Khan editions released over the years.

There are some quibbles here and there, but at the end of the day I think she's a great addition to the fleet.

#80937 NX-01 Re-Release

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 27 April 2015 - 06:38 PM

Perhaps DST will maximize their sales potential with this mold by offering an NX-02 Columbia variant edition. All that would need to be changed / re molded would be the deflector dish shape and the registry would need to be altered.  And the fact that Columbia was featured in several episodes in season 3, it seems like it would make a fine candidate for a separate variant release.

I would also LOVE it if they did a substantial retool on this ship and make the "refit" version with a secondary hull. I am quite enamored with that design and would be very happy if DST made one...

#79187 New York City Toy Fair 2015 Discussion Thread

Posted by OneAngryDwrf on 15 February 2015 - 08:15 PM

Greetings all,

I can't say that I, like everyone else, am terribly impressed with the Trek offerings on the ship front this year. The romulan bird of prey has never been a favorite of mine, and I can't imagine that the community feedback helped determine dst's decision to make this their next new ship. I imagine that this simplicity of this design might make it an attractive toy to develop as it does not require complex lighting, nor a very detailed paint application. Personally, I am still hoping that the Reliant will finally come along, or the Enterprise-C to finish the lineage.

As far as the NX-01 is concerned, I am perfectly happy with this. I have always loved this ship, and welcome a revisit of it with improved and complete paint apps and improved lighting. Honestly, I would love it if they made it a retooled variant as the Drexler designed Season 5 refit version with a secondary hull. I wish Enterprise had looked this way all along. I doubt that DST would put that kind of money into producing parts for a version of the ship never seen on screen, but one can hope.

The trek teks look great. Nice to see next gen phaser getting some love, though the Trek V & VI assault phaser is a must if you ask me.

Hopefully, more images will show up soon as the show winds down. I am still perplexed as to what happened with the releases of the Enterprise-A and NX Excelsior?  I know we Trek fans are accustomed to waiting, but these have been in dry dock for quite some time.
