#88451 Star Trek Beyond---------Spoilers

Posted by WORF22 on 14 February 2017 - 03:23 PM

I'd be intrigued to see Trek do something like Doctor Who does.

Focus on a ship, or a couple ships, and its crew(s) for a season or two, and then move onto a completely different ship and crew telling a totally different story. Maybe bridge it by having one of the crew transfer to the new ship, but eventually phase them out.

Hell go to a starbase, or a planet based focus for a couple seasons, and then go back to ship based.

Give a wider view of the universe over the course of the series, and just call it Star Trek.

and that is why "to me" DS9 is by far the best of the spinoffs, not that i dislike the rest to me it is all part of the expanded universe that TOS set.

#87552 "New ‘Star Trek’ Series Coming to CBS in 2017"

In this Trekkies humble opinion I think that as fans of S.T. & S.W. we have an emotional investment to the franchise. We tend to hold them to a hire stander then most people because we love them so.

To me  the show runners / writers “the big wigs” are just looking at the bottom line as too how much money they can make, where we look at a new show/movie and think how is this going to complement or fup the existing shows and hopping  that it will not be a franchise killer.

When you have big stars like Levar Burton talking about core values of "Trek and what Trek was all about you can see that the direction it is going in is not what we as fans were drawn to. And I think that is why whether it be Star Trek, Star Wars or a new reboot we nitpick.

It is fear, the fear that if it is not done right it will never be done again.

Levar Burton

“ I’d love for Gene’s hopeful vision of humanity’s outcome to return. I’d love to see some of the core values of "Trek," of "Star Trek," come into these new movies. That would be very cool for me; that would be the best of both worlds:terrific entertainment, wonderful action pictures with values that "Star Trek" is so famous for.  To make movies that are about something. Movies that cause us to examine ourselves, our motives and ambitions.

Just something that can keep us on track, you know what I mean? That’s what "Star Trek" is really all about. At least for me it is. It always has been.”

#87432 BUILDING A CUSTOM ACTION FIGURE DISPLAY CASE

Posted by WORF22 on 11 October 2016 - 07:58 AM

I am moving to a new house and was looking for a new display case for the new Man Cave. I had gotten a nice size glass case some time ago from ikea so I went to take a look at what they had new, not much. What they did have was way too $$$$$$$$$$$ and did not have the look I was looking for. I started looking on the net to see what I could get and WOW display cases are expensive. So I started looking at what some people have and have made and I found a style that I liked so I started to design one similar to it.

I did not want to make the same on so I did make some changes to it, I have not built it yet because I am still moving but this is what it is going to look like.

#87254 Kelvin Timeline RIP?

Posted by WORF22 on 19 September 2016 - 02:34 PM

Memory Beta

The Federation Department of Temporal Investigations, commonly known as DTI, was a department of the United Federation of Planets government, established as a branch of the Federation Science Council, charged with investigating and reporting on all time travel incidents that affected the Federation. This included conducting interviews with those who experienced temporal incidents, and determining whether their actions had a definite impact on the timeline. (DS9 episode: "Trials and Tribble-ations")

and as we have all seen on Voyager they go back and fix time if need be. so what i am trying to say is the JJ verse "no hate" does not exits.

I didn't even remotely have an issue believing Enterprise was pre-TOS. They did a very good job of making the ship feel less advanced than TOS Star Trek.

Even the set designs looked closer to us than to the "advanced" look of TOS.

Enterprise didn't fail because it was a prequel, it failed because of franchise fatigue. The same people were doing the same thing with the series as they had done for the 20 years prior.

By the time the series made changes that it needed, it was too late to save it. Season 4 of Enterprise is some of the best Trek out there, and I see so many posts popping up saying how Enterprise is better than people remembered it being.

The time period they choose is completely irrelevant to their ability to tell stories that are relevant to today. It doesn't matter if its 200 years, or 400 years into the future. They can still tell the same damn stories with political and social commentary relevant to todays audience.. Just because its set during the same time period as TOS, doesn't mean they have to tell stories revolving around 60's political issues.

DIDO. i think if Manny Coto was involved from day 1 the show would have gone 7 years. i also did not have a problem with the sets, but at first i did have a prob. with the ship. not that i did not like her because i did and still do i just did not like that she was essentially an Akira class starship.

#86354 Star Trek Beyond

Posted by WORF22 on 20 July 2016 - 09:43 AM

Having an opinion and not blindly accepting anything with the name Star Trek on it is closed minded!?

I can't speak for Worf22 but I went into the new franchise with an open mind. I was extremely disappointed! Even so I still watched the next movie although skipped wasting money on seeing it in the theater. It was more of the same. I'll probably eventually watch at least some of the new movie just to see if it might be better than the previous two. I would say I have a very open mind, in fact open enough that I can watch a movie and judge it based on its own merits not some sort of blind loyalty to anything Star Trek or some idea that supporting this movie will help "keep things alive" for Star Trek until something good can be made.

Into Darkness had issues, but I enjoyed it. Certainly more than Insurrection, Nemesis, Generations, And Final Frontier.

All I'm saying is that Beyond is being made by different people with different writers so just dismissing it doesn't make sense to me.

now I am not saying Insurrection, Nemesis, Generations, And Final Frontier are better movies than what we have seen in the new universe not at all.  but as crappy as some of them are  they still have a fundamental Roddenberry feel to them as did TNG, DS9, VOY, and even ENT. And let’s not even get into ENT because as much as I loved the show it still had some things that I did not like about it but overall it still had that Roddenberry Trek feel to it.
