Not to mention a Trek animated show probably wouldn't have a budget like Rebels does, and definitely not like TCW had.

Even if they made one they'd put it on All Access, which again will massively limit its exposure. Also just like Rebels and TCW, a lot of Trek fans wouldn't watch it just because it'd be more kid friendly. Even more so if they set it in the Kelvin Timeline.

There's no rule that they'd put it on All Access. If it were made by Paramount and was based in the Kelvin Timeline, chances are it would be aired on Nickelodeon.
For Discovery, cbs obviously saw the potential in putting a Star Trek series on a streaming platform, But you're forgetting that the rest of the world gets to see Star Trek: Discovery on Netflix which reaches a far wider and broader audience. Trek might be a US TV series but it's also one with a large global fan base.
The All Access thing is a gamble that has no relevance or impact on the success of Star Trek. If people don't buy All Access then they've already got Netflix to jump at the chance at airing, even co-producing Star Trek down the road.
Regardless. There's still potential out there for Star Trek to be a force on the toy shop shelves, it's up to CBS to determine whether or not they want to go down that route or go a more grown up route like Game of Thrones.

There's no reason why it couldn't appeal to kids again. There's got to be something for kids to latch onto though.
My train of thought is this;
Star Trek: Discovery launches on All Access and Netflix and continues the Prime Timeline, enriching the established fan base as well as introducing older fans into the franchise. A cult classic is born as people begin talking about Star Trek again...
Paramount/Nickelodeon/Bad Robot & IDW co-produce a new Star Trek animated series that ties into the cinematic and comic book Kelvin Timeline. Perhaps it's a Starfleet Academy series base upon new characters, perhaps it's set onboard the Kelvin or Enterprise A, or perhaps a new ship. The series compliments not just the Kelvin Universe but the Prime Timeline too - acknowledging the existence of both as well as other multiple alternate timelines like the Mirror Universe.
The result is an expansion of the Kelvin Universe to a younger generation of fans never interested in Star Trek before.
JJ Abrams and co begin development of 4th movie featuring Chris Hemsworth.
Star Trek: Discovery continues into a 2nd series and beyond...
As a result of the popularity in Star Trek, long time collaborators return to the franchise with a familiar yet brand new line: Playmates relaunches their Star Trek range as they have done with TMNT. From the Kelvin Universe to the Prime Universe - Star Trek toys make a come back!
Lego show interest in introducing Star Trek to their world through Lego Dimensions as well as a line of sets based upon the Animated Series and Kelvin Timeline....
The human adventure continues...

For example would you like to see smaller ships with play set interiors such as a bridge within a USS Discovery set?

I prefer the playsets to the ships. And of course, anything with a lot of their awesome mini action figures included.
If I want to admire a Trek ship, I want a realistic model, not a blocky brick model. I mean it's cool and good-kind-of-kitschy to have a "LEGO" Enterprise but I'm just not that into it. If they tried to make as many 'realism'-oriented ship sets as LEGO has done for Star Wars I would be put off by it and would not buy them anymore. I only went in on the NCC-1701 because I felt fairly confident it would be the only really nice ship of that scale I would ever see for Trek and it makes a nice centerpiece crown jewel to go with the other sets. If they did an NCC-1701-D (and it was much more realistic than the one they actually did do many years ago), I would buy that, because that's the one I would have actually wanted more in the first place as my own personal crown jewel but I don't see it coming. Wouldn't buy one for the Discovery, I just don't see myself becoming as emotionally attached to any new Trek (or Star Wars) ship at this age. I have my classic(s) and I can appreciate new things but that doesn't make 'em classic!
Playsets, on the other hand, are more fun, because they give you a way to show off those mini action figures and put them into "action". And the ones they did for TOS are just incredible. There again, though, I don't know if I would buy any from Discovery. It has taken all the way until now for me to even kind of see the ENT bridge and ship interior as somewhat memorable and iconic, during the show itself I found it boring and actually a bit disorienting in how everything looked identical so I never was immediately sure what I was looking at. While I like Voyager's exterior, the interior was "just another TNG-era ship" in most ways so it's not very memorable or iconic to me either. DS9 of course had its uniqueness on the station, so that might be pretty fun to get in brick form. But TNG is again what I would desire the most for playsets as an adult collector. The bridge (w/ready room), the observation lounge, 10 Forward, engineering, Data's quarters, sickbay...I am just drooling thinking about those sets. I WANT THEM ALL SO BAD! ARE YOU LISTENING, MEGA??!?!?!!? (Oh, oh, oh, and they could do a Skin of Evil set to include a Yar figure, and a small shuttle build, akin to the Guardian set!) If Discovery can really re-invent the ship interior and make it just as iconic and aesthetically fresh and pleasing as TNG was in its time, that would be awesome, but I'm not banking on it and I'm not sure I'd spent a few hundred on sets unless the show is an immediate home run quality wise. But you know, I probably would, because I'd realize if I didn't buy them now at retail prices I could come to regret it later.

I asked if we were likely to see more sets and they couldn't reveal details but said I should keep an eye out come the release of Discovery...

From Pixel Dan it seems as though there will be MOTU sets so I'd expect that at NYCC we may see some TNG sets too. I'd be surprised if it were just those two micro figures and nothing else.

Bring it on, Mega. Just start shipping cases to my house please. Having to wait for the product to find its way into whatever retailers are willing to gamble on it has not been fun with the TMNT line!
