Can you find that article online?

I can't recall whether the Communicator article was ever published. It was due to be, but I thought the magazine got canned before they got a chance to publish it.

I thought Mike ("The Bounty Hunter") had captured the story on the Playtrek site, but I can't find it there now.

I sent an email to Mike, will see what he replies and if he wants to share here...
I think that is the right recipe for the Dax figure. I was going to use a Lost in Space girl, but never got around to it.
He used to have a website dedicated to Trek toys, but he has moved on to GIJoes now it seems.

Thanks. I'll look it up.

The Starfleet Academy set contained Picard, Riker, La Forge, and Worf. Playmates did make cadet versions of Data, Beverly, and Deanna, but they were part of the "Warp Factor" series that spanned all shows.

I knew they made a Crusher figure. I remember seeing her for sale at a swap meet.

Hey everyone,
Tiberius emailed me about this and I'd like to clear it all up.

First, YES. Ezri was made with an Ilia head, scupty, and a Deanna Troi FC figure.

Now, about that article....

Way back when, someone from the Star Trek Communicator contacted me. He was also a member of the Playtrek mailing list (as many Paramount/Viacom people were).

We talked back and forth, and ultimately he told me he would like to do an article on Star Trek customizing.
It wouldn't be just me in it - but my custom Step by Step write up for how to make your own Ezri Dax would be the feature.

He asked that I take some pictures of the process to make it, and document it along the way. At this point I had no plans to make another Ezri. My plan was to give it away as a prize for that issue. I sent him the photos, he did the article (which I can't seem to find my copy of), and that was that. Or so I thought. Whoever was in charge at the time sent it to legal first - just to be safe. THEY put the brakes on the entire article because it "could cause legal matters" or something or other. He tried without success to make this article come to light, and believe me - I wanted it to as well!!

Alas, it didn't happen, and it became a mystery of the internet. I still have the images (most of them) to show you, and I also included the custom Warp Factor backer card that I made at the time as well. I used to go under the name of Bounty Hunter Toys at the time - now I'm just "MH" (my initials for my name - Michael Heddle) I'm slowly adding all the images of all customs that I've done in the past to my own personal site - feel free to check it out for yourself - http://www.michaelheddle.com

So there you have it. If you want to know more about me, and the other customs I've done - check out this thread I just started over here:

Oh, and I haven't "moved on" to GI Joe, I've always been into them. Joes, Star Wars, Star Trek, Wrestling - I enjoy it all! :-)
