Well... in a bit of a surprise...  AA just announced a set of shorts to tide over the faithful until DISCO S2 hits in 2019.

and the 1st episode is tomorrow!

STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS, four stand-alone short stories, will begin rolling out on Thursday, October 4, in anticipation of the early 2019 return of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The first STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS is titled "Runaway" and stars Mary Wiseman as "Tilly." Each short will run approximately 10-15 minutes and will be an opportunity for fans to dive deeper into key themes and characters that fit into the STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and expanding "Star Trek" universe. Each of STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS four stories will center on a key character, including familiar faces from STAR TREK: DISCOVERY: Mary Wiseman (Tilly), Doug Jones (Saru) and Rainn Wilson (Harry Mudd), in a short he will also direct, as well as a new character unfamiliar to fans, Craft, played by Aldis Hodge.

Very cool. Imagine having something like this with the original series back in the day. Shorts that focus on Sulu and Scotty or even Riley would have been so much fun. It could have been a cool way to introduce new characters like Carol Marcus or Trelane as well.

But I digress.

misterPL... I was pleasantly surprised by this. I guess they announced it sept 20... but still that was a pretty good little secret and nice for people that are subscribers.

I plan to watch the 1st one tonight and will be interested in your feedback.

Ive been looking forward to these. Using these to expand on other characters is a really cool idea.

Im particularly looking forward to the Saru one where hes on his home planet. At least I think thats what its about.

There was some issue with distribution rights. As far as I know only the US and Canada are airing them.

I'm assuming these are an after thought... maybe stitched together from outtakes?

Not sure I saw what time these will go live??? 7pm CST maybe??

830pm central.

I dont think these are pieces together, they seem to be something theyve planned for.

Well see soon enough.

Definitely Trek, hopefully a sign of a more light hearted season 2 to come.

Also not pieces together, but a story they came up with just for this.

Calypso looks interesting too.

These are akin to the Marvel One-Shots that used to accompany home video releases of their feature films. Original stories, new content. Just fun.  :D

Yeah... its not going to win any awards, and as with anything I could critique it and pick at it... but I'm gonna take it for exactly what it is... I nice little bonus, something fun and not too heavy.

Well... the best bit is it suggests they aren't planning on blowing DISCO up anytime soon!

Jumping to the far future on accident and killing everyone on board is still on the table though!

Was not all that impressed with the first short...gotta be honest with you... can't put my finger on why but it kind of felt like what someone who likes Trek but likes Farscape more would have written/produced...

they seem to be shooting them with minimal cast... and I think it made the 1st one feel... lonely... and in most Trek you feel the whole crew at the support... at least that was my feel.
