I got my deluxe select sets yesterday and am overall very happy with this new line. Here are a couple of pics of the two different sets and what you might be able to do with them.
I am also going to give a little mini review of the Pros and KHAAAAANS of the figures.
Pros (for both tru and select versions)
Cool display bases from both. Engineering and the rock bases are both great for cool dioramas.
Lots of interchangeable parts for may different natural looking poses.
Body sculpts are really well done for the figures
Upper body articulation is great for this type of figure to give you a little more freedom with your displays.
Lots of fun swapping parts to get the display you want.
They look awesome once you get them displayed the way you like.
NIce solid figures that dont feel like they will break when you swap parts.
No Rubber shirts!!!
Khaaaaaans (for both tru and select versions)
They could both use at least one pair of neutral hands
I would have liked to see a more neutral standing set of legs for kirk.
The jumping through the air legs are pretty useless unless that is the only pose you want to do but does not look natural at all. (to the parts bin they go).
The Khan accessory. Same as jumping legs ( I may see if I can pop the head and hands off for future customs).
No second Kirk head or broken phaser. I was kind of looking forward to these but not a deal breaker.
Horta is a little on the small side but still looks like a horta. (It was pretty cheesy looking in the show and looks just like it). Not my favorite episode.
Horta base does not have the horta eggs like the prototype shows.
Overall I am really liking these and think this is a great way to keep the Star Trek figure line alive. The diorama style display bases are cool and these are just really cool figures to have on a shelf.
I will say that the thing that makes them great is the upper body articulation. It allows you to come up with different poses even though the legs are static. This will be a pattern that needs to be repeated throughout the line. Hopefully the static Picard doesn't kill it before it really has a chance to shine.
