Mine arrived today, and the third time was indeed the charm! I'm still going to be trading it for the 2008 version, but I wanted to snap some high-resolution shots in normal sunlight of her before packing her back away. I tried to not only show the differences, but I wanted to also focus on how well DST did with the execution of the mold, from the panel lines to the aztec grid. She is truly stunning, but the chipmunk chip and the copyright text keep me from wanting to keep her. These pictures will also serve as a reference for painting the phaser cannons that awesome yellow on the 2008 version when I get her.

Enjoy!

Thanks, I may someday refer back to these photos, if they are still there, to do the same paint upgrade to my original issues.

Perhaps this has already come up (probably), but be sure you specify to whomever you trade with that you are looking for perfect audio pitch. The originals had problems as well. I bought two AGT Ds, and one has wonky audio while the other is fine. I do feel like the more you play the audio, it starts to correct itself somehow, but it never becomes perfect. I also bought two normal Ds and the same happened there (one good, one bad).

Were those really back in 2008/2009? That seems too long ago... What have I been doing with my time? sad.gif

Yep, they are from THAT long ago, LOL. The one I am trading for has already been audio tested, so I'm good to go.

Also, there has been talk here and there about the super-phaser cannon on the ventral side of the saucer and how it would effect saucer separation. To be honest, I really don't understand the controversy. I had always assumed that the cannon has doors that fold closed on either side during the procedure. I mean, why not? Starfleet engineers had to deal with it and that's the best I could come up with. Either that, or a more crude answer would be that the cannon is jettisoned for the procedure. I don't think that is the best way, but in an emergency, who knows. Why is it such a controversy? Is it because no official source has commented on it or put it in a tech manual? I really feel it's as simple as a couple of doors. When dealing with engineering, often the simplest answer is the best.

Thoughts?

Interesting to speculate about.

If the AGT Enterprise D was that up gunned; Could it be suggested that the "family starship" that was the Enterprise D was no longer present. Why seperate the saucer section, when the original purpose of the procedure is no longer there.

However, one can also say they Dumped the family Saucer, Added weapons atop and to the bottom of the saucer (A.K.A. the weapon that looks like a phaser rifle strapped on the belly of the saucer) and meant some sort of a Multi Vector Assault Possibility.

I think...if the "Big Gun" on the Saucer were to remain usable when separated from the engineering hull, her impulse systems could not handle the load. Some sort of power upgrade to the saucer would of been needed.

But again this is sheer speculation. Fun to talk about, but since we know so little of the AGT-Ent-D; I think it's just fun speculation.

Sure looked like the same saucer on the inside smile.gif

And the saucer would still be useful as a life-boat, if the core breached.

Agreed. I really don't think that the saucer separation ability would be totally shut down and removed because of a cannon. There are all kinds of situations that the feature would need to be used for, so I am still of the mind that there are doors inside the cannon that fold closed and it simply cannot be used when separation occurs. Or, if it could be used, it would be in a lesser capacity without the stardrive connected to it.

I think the Saucer Seperation sequence could definitely of been retained. But her purpose would be different.

When I look at the AGT Enterprise on Television, she more the personality of a Starship with Massively Upgraded Firepower. I mean...Think of the Plumbing needed for the Phaser arrays atop a Warp Nacelles. That's not a simple thing to do! This ship has Weapons all over her!!

So if she separated, I would think her Saucer section would be a separate combat entity. Requiring more power than the original "D" Saucer could provide. IMHO.

Then of course there is all those lifeboats still on the Saucer, which run contrary to the "No More Families In Alll Good Things...Enterprise D!!

Again fun to talk about, but sheer speculation.

Getting back the the TOY itself. I was wondering if anyone was aware of any movement on the Pennant Issue from DST on This HUGE/HEAVY ship!!!

I got the original version of the AGT-D from FHC yesterday. After putting fresh AAAs in, the lights and sounds work great. This is the first time I've really gotten a good look at this design. I've seen TNG Seasons 1-6, and half of 7, but for whatever reason I never finished it.

Anyway, I like the added on elements, it gives new interesting look to the original D. I like the new paint additions on the reissue, those yellow highlights really do make the add-on bits pop. Since I have a yellow gundam marker, and those paint apps seem comparatively easy to add (as opposed to missing pennants), I'll be adding some yellow paint to this, someday.

However, I'm not quite happy with the execution on this particular specimen.

The third nacelle bit appears to only be attached to the hull in one spot, and not quite straight at that. The right side of the extra bit doesn't sit flush on the hull, particularly on the front side. there's a good .1" gap. And since it feels like it's only attached in one point, near the back of the hull, the entire third nacelle portion is pretty wobbly.

The bit attached to the saucer battery cover feels like it wasn't sitting flush when it was glued, and it floats just a little bit high. Just enough to look odd to me.

The third nacelle hull piece is the most visually obvious quality issue, but the one that terrifies me the most right now, is when I try to separate the saucer from the stardrive, the saucer nearly split open. Again, it feels like it was only glued in a few places, and nearly an entire half of it separates when I pull on it, even gently. Oddly, it is again mostly the right side, starting at the very rear, where the stardrive attaches, only the very left edge of that is glued shut, from there around the right side to the widest potion of the saucer it's not glued shut, and the left/front portion can start to be pulled apart too.

I do not have such separation issues on my original issue D, and it's really disconcerting that this one pulls apart so much. I'll try to glue it closed, but I'm not even sure what kind of glue to try using.

Any suggestions?

Just completed a smooth trade for whitestar's 2008 version (thanks again, dude!). I bought some model paint for the yellow bits, but now I am in need of someone to paint them. Sometimes it can be a real pain in the ass when items in the collection turn into ongoing projects for God knows how long, LOL.

My pleasure user897 smile.gif Appreciate the smooth trade! Please post pics of the finished product when you can.

With regards to the reissue, I absolutely love the additional painted-detail, but I do miss the pennants on the nacelles. I really, really hope that DST comes through with the decals!

Unfortunately, too much drama in real life is probably going to postpone the paint indefinitely. Which sucks, because I already bought the paint and everything. Oh well.

If you want to glue it shut, and never, ever, ever, ever get at the inside of it again, a few drops of Krazy Glue should do the trick, but you'll have to work fast if you use it. Depending on the design of the saucer, you may want to try and find the kind that doesn't dry to one's skin quickly so that you actually have time to apply it and glue the saucer shut. Most people probably don't know this, but the regular stuff was originally developed as WWI surgical glue for use on the battlefield. (A relative of mine had severe problems with dry skin chapping on his hands; it got so bad that he had to see his doctor about it. The doctor reached into his pocket, pulled out a tube of Krazy Glue, and basically charged him $100 dollars for it. In essence, he wound up paying $100 dollars for that little trivia fact, and to keep doing what he'd already been doing before going to see his doctor on the first place.)

Although I wouldn't recommend it for the AGT

Now if DST goes back to their old method of applying the legal copy, fixes the missing pennants, and corrects Picard's voice on a future release, you can certainly bet that I'll grab it immediately. I'm definitely tempted to "upgrade" my 2009 AGT
