Just wanted to make this topic as an outlet for any ideas you guys might have had, or maybe what you'd love to see one day as a Star Trek spin-off, no matter how little of a chance it'd have of being made. Imagine you're a billionaire, and you offer to fund a one-off show, movie, or series based in the Trek universe, whilst sticking with established canon (whether in the prime or alternate universe). I'll cut to the chase, so here's mine. Skip to the bullet points if you can't be bothered with the wall of text. smile.gif

For years now (since I was a kid watching DS9), I've always wanted to see an episode/movie/mini tv series etc, based around the idea of a Klingon Bounty Hunter working for the Orion Syndicate. This show would adhere to the feel, and look of Star Trek circa TNG/DS9/VOY-era, but I'll be honest, when I imagine it in my head, I'm thinking of DS9's 'grittier' look both in terms of 'feel', and sets.
The show would almost be Star Trek flipped upside down - sometimes scary and horrifying, and always more violent than anything seen in Star Trek before, as opposed to the hopeful and wonderous feel of the Federation - as it tells the tale of a brilliant, likeable, but ultimately lethal and unpredictable Klingon Bounty Hunter, who earns his living (and reputation) working for the Orion Syndicate (or some other seedy organisation - he could even be an 'odd-job' man, taking work from the Ferengi for example, etc etc).

In terms of what I'm thinking it would be like to watch, I could almost summarise it by saying, imagine the grittier episodes from any of the modern Trek's (DS9, Voyager, Enterprise), but made for adults, and let me be honest, directed by someone like Quentin Tarantino. The language doesn't necessarily have to be any different from normal Star Trek (so in other words, it isn't laced with swear-word after swear-word), but it would have the occasional outburst, similar to Data in Generations, or Riker in Insurrection. However, it would be bloody, and comically violent. Our Klingon character would be an aficionado with the Bat'leth, using it to slice off arms with ease, etc. When I say comical-violence, I wouldn't say as 'silly' as something like Kill Bill, and certainly not as frequent as it is in that film, but fairly close to that. For instance, when he cuts someone's arm off in a fight, the viewer should have a smile on his face as opposed to a look of horror. Also, and I'm not ashamed to admit that this last part comes from within the last few years, but I'd love to have the character be played by Christoph Waltz. After seeing him in Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained, I've come to the conclusion that I'd contemplate sacrificing a ball to see him playing a Klingon - the character being the same as Hans Landa, or Dr. King Schultz, probably somewhere inbetween. Although I've always imagined this character as a bounty hunter, I'd be lying if I said that these last two Tarantino films hadn't influenced me, as I love them, and I say that as someone who's never been a huge Tarantino fan. I also say it because my Mum used to watch 'E.R.' when I was a kid, and I remember an episode of it that he directed - t'was very bloody, etc. smile.gif

Some bullet points for clarity:

QUOTE (Bullet Points)
Main Character
Christoph Waltz playing a Klingon Bounty Hunter. Has a family, including a strong, and taller wife, who dominates him completely (she's very much a tomboy, and kind of views him as her 'pet'). Family maybe has no idea about his line of work.

Highly intelligent, he's fluent in numerous languages, is well-read when it comes to literature of all species, and shows advanced knowledge in the most random of topics (e.g. knows the Ferengi rules of acquisition).

Wears his hair differently from other Klingons (not sure how, but not down, and not bald, but not so different as to seem out of place - simply tied-back perhaps).

Is quite short in height, and is often the subject of jokes from both fellow Klingons, and other species. Makes up for this by being highly-skilled in hand-to-hand combat, as he likes to demonstrate. Think Worf in Quarks bar with Martok's son. smile.gif

Very likeable character, who shows sympathy with those less fortunate than himself, often helping them (opportunity for storylines).

Tools of the trade
An old Klingon Bird of Prey, B'Rel-class (small), crewed by an array of all species, who're either loyal to him (he's helped them previously), or are somehow indebted to him. It's name would be a character from German mythology, translated as best as possible into Klingon.

His Father or Grandfather's Bat'leth - customised so as to appear differently from a standard model, but not to be unrecognisable (think Sword of Kahless-esque).

Obviously all the other run of the mill props (disruptor, daqtagh, tricorder etc).

Story Brief
Gritty, dark, but still very much in the Star Trek (prime) universe, former scientist with the Klingon military is forced to become a bounty hunter (whether due to falling in with the Orion Syndicate, or something else).

Scenes of gore, and blood that verge on those seen in Aliens, Predator, certain Tarantino films. Nothing shocking or stomach-turning, but more 'comical'. In other words, you'll have a smile on your face and want to see more of it, as opposed to it being disturbing and causing nightmares. That said, a few shocking scenes, but those wouldn't be 'graphic' per se.

Series/film would have no big impacts on the Trek universe as a whole, but certainly has room for encounters with characters from the shows (ideal candidate, Quark's Bar).

Ideal Director
Quentin Tarantino, or Robert Rodriguez.

So yes, that's an idea I've had for over a decade now, obviously refined with a lot of ideas taken from other things I love/am a fan of. I know it's a random topic for a toy-collecting community, but it's meant just as a bit of Trekkie pub-talk. I'd love to hear anyone else's ideas. smile.gif

Also, although I've no problem with people telling me my idea's rubbish or whatever, I want to say CLEARLY that I haven't made this topic to get people arguing, or certainly not to OFFEND anyone. I'd love to know what you guys think of my idea, but I've been really confused lately regarding what's a 'faux pas', so I just wanted to reiterate that this thread has been made with good intentions, and for a bit of random talk/sharing of ideas, cool. smile.gif

I like the idea of basing a Star Trek TV series on a Klingon Bird of Prey within the 24th Century.

I think a Star Trek series based on Worf and Martok after the events of Deep Space Nine Season 7 would be interesting. What if Worf and Martok on a mission discover a black hole that leads to the new universe and it's all because of The Sisko and the profits, maybe the two universes can collide in some manner?

or a TV series based on the USS Kelvin before it meets the Narada

or a reimagining in the new universe of TNG including characters and dominion plots from DS9 merging the two together in the new universe creating a sweeping TV epic in the style of game of thrones mixed with the intimacy of doctor who and the intelligence and family aspect of TNG and DS9.

interesting idea 1701. Typically, Star Trek Shows have mostly human, with a few aliens to provide outside commentary on the human condition. One could see a show where only a 1 or 2 Humans were in the cast, and the Humans would make commentary indirectly through the experience of being the minority and their interaction to the Alien way of doing things.

I think that would be extremely interesting, and since CGI is so advanced, they may not have to incur the expense of doing so much makeup.

Mine isn't real elaborate....but I would like a USS Titan based show.....but the main thrust of the show is that the Federation is having stability issues and the Titan is on the fronts with constant threats from both inside and outside the Federation. I would love to have Ira Steven Behr and Ron Moore write it.....It would have a grittier edge and not as utopian.

Yep, all of them get a huge tick from me (especially regarding Behr and Moore).

Just for clarity on mine by the way, it's not what I'd want more than anything else, it's just an outrageous idea that I've had since I was a kid, but grown over time. Given a choice, I'd be right with what you all have basically said. smile.gif

A show based on Section 31 or Temporal Investigations would be great, perhaps having various guests from TNG, DS9, and VOY. I'm sure Frakes and Sirtis would jump at the chance.
or
A show set perhaps in 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, or 31st century (As time travel is established to be in use in and after the 26th century in the TNG, VOY and ENT), following a crew repairing temporal damage to the timeline. You could have them in the TOS or NG eras, perhaps utilising "Trails And Tribbleations" tech to merge people into key episodes like "The Best Of Both Worlds" or have them visit even their past but beyond Nemesis.
or
An animated series, meaning you could bring anybody back, like Data, as Brent himself said he stopped playing Data because he was getting older.

OOOOooooo! Section 31! now that could be interesting... it would show a darker side... where the prime directive is something like "Preventing Humanity from Extinction" instead of the non-interferance...

Would be a spy thriller...

Temporal Investigations, from that one episode in DS9 isa group whose mission is to detect (and in the books based on it) repair changes to the timeline. With the Alternate reality created in 2009's Trek perhaps we see the Temporal Investigations team detect this new reality and they investigate to determine if one it is worth reversing or two if it should be left alone. That of course would depend on the benefits there are to the Federation and the people of Starfleet if any in the JJ Universe.

Humph!!! I'm a bit tired of sci-fi time traveling plots... they all just seem so derivative to me. The last movie I saw with a fresh twist on time travel has to be Primer.

Another one, an extension of a previous idea based on my love for alternative reality’s and my love of a Marvel comic series called "Exiles", why not have a group of people from any time, any place, being recruited by Braxton or even Q to hop from one reality to the next, fixing temporal incursions from ether there reality or another? The thing with the Exiles comics I loved was anything could happen. I mean, sometimes you could turn the page and Iron Man was a mad man ruling the world, or all the Avengers where Vampires. It was crazy. And I suppose, with the scope of Trek, it would be equally crazy. Imagine the possibility’s? It might suit an animated format better as you could have actors who might not look like they used to in there prime, weather that be due to old age or cosmetic surgery, even, with the tech we have nowadays, bring back people who are dead (not literally) using clips of there voices from the past.

I would like to see a Star Trek Gama quadrant. Story  focusing on the withdraw from the alpha quadrant and the instability in the dominion do to the loss of the war, rogue jem'hadar & Vorta factions fighting for control of the Gama quadrant and how S.F. has to deal with this new situation.

I like the idea of an animated anthology series that allows us to explore various parts of the Trek Universe. Maybe we could frame it in a Temporal investigations type of idea but still show characters and events from all of the series. Think of it like Dr. Who or Quantum Leap meets the duck blind from Insurrection.

Maybe even Jake and Nog could be the main constant protagonists as they've been in the ENT novels that retconed "These Are The Voyages..." in the ENT continuation novels.
