DST's TWOK communicator is now available for pre-order! I'll definitely be getting this! Just waiting for Rick to put it up for pre-order.
The Diamond Select Toys Wrath of Khan communicator, designed by Art Asylum, features flashing lights and phrases from Admiral Kirk, Spock, Khan and Uhura, as well as the authentic communicator chirp sound effects. There are three modes: Voice Clip Mode, Screaming Kirk Mode, and Hail/Call-Back function. The communicator chirps when Communicator is opened or closed. The TWOK communicator will be released in November.
TREKMOVIE
Available now for pre-order at Entertainment Earth for $37.99

I have never liked the TWOK communicator because it looks like a step backwards from the TOS communicator instead of a step forward, as it should have been considering how much time had elapsed between TOS and TWOK. Heck, even Enterprise's communicators were better than the TWOK ones. I may still end up buying one eventually but i hate that it looks like some junky prototype that Anakin Skywalker built on Tatooine.

I'm definitely getting in on this! Although I'll probably wait for Rick to put it up. I'd also like to see if there will be any exclusive variants available as well.

I don't think there will be any exclusive variants...I don't really see how there can be. TWOK was the only movie those communicators were in

They made a TOS variant with extra sound clips and different finish and there weren't really variances in the comms (well, technically there were, but not in the way they did the exclusive variant). They could do extra sound clips, they could do one with a die-cast lid or body (or both). If there is anything the can do to squeeze out a variant, it's sure that DST will do it.

I suspect we'll get a variant that has that sound clip.

Actually, they all have that! "Features 3 play modes: Voice Clip Mode, Screaming Kirk Mode, and Hail/Call-Back function."
A whole mode dedicated to nothing but Khaaaaaaannnnnnn! LOL

Personally, a cast metal version would be the most appealing version of that comm. I would pay double price for them if they were metal. Die-cast pot metal can't be that expensive. They could easily do them for $50-$60, I'm sure.

I emailed Rick at New Force to ask if he will be getting them for pre-sell. He said "Yep we will as soon as it is officially solicited." I'm not up on all the lingo, but as long as I saw "yes", I was happy!

If I can afford it, I'll get two...one to keep and one to mod.

Rick is usually the last one to post things up for pre-sale, because he wants to make completely sure what he will be getting them for and that he can be the lowest price. I tend to wait for Rick to put em, cuz he is my vendor of choice personally.

I definitely do as well. He is a super nice and honest guy. Plus, he's "local" (well, in the same state as me) so I like to give him my business for that reason too.
