#97094 Star Trek Action Figures 2021?

Posted by weyoun_9 on 09 November 2020 - 10:52 PM

I would sincerely hope they would stay away from TOS for the time being. McFarlane's biggest mistake, in my opinion, was not starting with Discovery. And NOW we've got just too many new shows/characters to go back and recycle characters we've done before...at least in looks we've seen before. I'd love to see a 6" or 7" multiverse wave one that would/could include Burnham, T'Kuvma, Picard and Narissa, with a close follow up second wave of Saru, the Ba'ul, Soji and Narek and go from there. The absolute last thing that I want is another TNG Picard or TOS Kirk. If a multiverse line does well, then maybe they can start stretching into 24th Century or TOS/Enterprise. I would love a line like that to go on forever, like the Star Wars Black Series...but it's gotta be bold enough to do some new characters upfront. Though I am curious how they'd handle Lower Decks...would they be animation accurate or would they "humanize" them to fit the other characters?

I'm sure we'll never know. But it's still fun to think about.

Yar and Armus is the Perfect Select Piece it really is. I made that suggestion when the Select line first started and would KILL for it to be Tasha

Likewise. That would be amazing. She'd be compatible with the Season One Picard and Riker from their previous line AND have a cool base option. And Armus doesn't need any articulation. She could have a leg/head swap for the before/after moments. Love this idea.

I have to disagree. DST is not crazy at all. I would instantly buy a Defiant or Voyager but would wait for sale or clearance on a Ktinga or reliant. Don't get me wrong, I do like those ships but they are not must haves for me. I would buy TNG/DS9/Voyager era ships over more TOS at this point than I would anything else.

I agree completely. 100% No question. Same for the DST Selects. The only selling point on more TOS characters for me would be if, like the Spock TOS, an alien we haven't seen is included. In fact. I'd rather get a Salt Vampire select figure with Dr. McCoy as set dressing than the other way around.

I like the idea of the gas-spilling Malon vessel. If only the Malon's were on TOS… ;) (Sorry…bitter about the Non-TNG tech in the other thread…I'll get over it.)

"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true." - Spock, "Amok Time"

I have to agree that the search is often what made this process so exciting. In fact, the internet has taken away some of that joy. I miss the days where the only way to find Star Trek action figures was to GO look for them. As a kid in the '90s I would take the bus on Saturdays to different Toys R Us Stores and Spencer's Gifts looking for the Playmates rare ones. My father drove himself crazy trying to shop for me for Hanukkah looking for Troi or Guinan. There WAS no pre-ordering. There was no easy way to find everyone.

Now, I NEVER parted with any of my Star Trek figures, but around 2002, I had also built a collection of MOTU (The Anime-esque ones, not the new classics), Simpsons, Star Wars, Austin Powers, X-Files, and a few X-Men here and there. I parted with all of them and there is a part of me that wishes like crazy that I still had them. Granted, they'd be in storage, but still. It's a feeling I totally understand.

#70584 Legacy Minimates

DST Zach - In a way, I think 1701 is speaking to a saturation of TOS for TNG-First Trekkers. We like and respect TOS, Kirk & Co., etc., but it's TNG that brings out our wallets. We're more likely to invest in a TOS product, if needs be, if supporting it will lead to TNG (and other 24th Century Trek) products. I, for example, am still not ready to buy the first two Selects until I know who's coming after Picard. I have too many Kirk's and Spock's in my collection at this time. Again, I realize that market research seems to indicate that Kirk and Spock are the winning combo, but not everyone feels the same way. (Insert Beating the Dead Horse Gif)

Bringing it back to this thread, this is why I commented earlier about how great I thought the variety for the MiniMate Legacy line is. Even though they're not my cup of tea, the coverage of series is what I'm hoping for in the products that I DO collect.
