Does anyone know if the Tapestry Picard bagged figure might be available
at some other point in time like the Troi figure I got for free when buying ST figures
from DST at the Wizard World Texas convention?

I suppose it's possible. But I seem to remember Chuck stating that it wouldn't be very likely. Then again, he said the same thing about the 1701 Refit, and look what happened there! smile.gif

I thought the whole Q collection thing was just plain bogus. I refused to buy a DVD set just to get a blue Picard. I have all of the next gen seasons (none of the DS9 / Voyager), so basically I'm buying a set of which I already have around 3/4 of the episodes of sad.gif I just couldn't bring myself to do it, especially since I didn't like the Q Voyager episodes. (I don't remember the Q DS9 episode. Haven't seen it in forever.)

Of course people like me are the ones who are going to drive up the price of the figure... if I ever decide I really want one. In which case I would have been better off just to buy the set. Such is the illogic of my life, and why I'm just a chump of a chimp smile.gif

I'm swinging from the same branch as you Chimp. smile.gif I did not get the Q DVD set because I already owned all of the TNG DVD's and all of the DS9 DVD's. I did not want or need duplicates of the shows but I did really want the Tapestry Picard. I passed on it in hopes that DST may re-release the figure one way or another down the road. I know there is a very slim chance of that but i'm keeping my fingers crossed. I have been looking on ebay but the cost for a Tapestry Picard is either too high with the shipping to me or I keep getting outbidded. I hope DST does not do something like this again.

I actually like the promotion. For one, it almost got me to buy the DVD set, which is obviously precisely what they want. Well, except for the almost. To be honest, though, if I had to do it again, I would have gotten it when I had a chance to get it on sale for a bit off the regular price.

All that said, its a perfectly reasonable means of releasing an unusual and ultimately non-essential figure that's ultimately quite available to anyone who wants one. Sure, you have to get a DVD set with it, but how different is that from buying the Nemesis Riker and Troi to get CoC Data? Its a freebie as an incentive to buy another product. I didn't want an extra Riker and Troi, but I'll find a use for the set. Likewise, you may have seen fit to sell off the DVD set used. Its going for $22.50 used at Amazon against the in stock price of $27.99. You could sell it yourself at Amazon and get about $18. So, basically, you'd pay $10 for the figure. A pretty good bargain all things considered. You could easily afford to seriously undercut the current low prices to try to make sure your set sells and still get the figure for under ordinary retail prices for a single figure. I sure like that.

I got the DVD set from half.com at the end and it was only 14.95 the same price that I pay Rick for a figure. I stumbled on the site right about the time that they were about to sell out of them and I bought 3 sets. I wish I had found the site sooner I could have saved a few members here a buck or two but it was good for me as I thought I had one more then I did and ended up selling the one I was keeping!! I would have not had one myself. Since it was only 14.95 I bought the last 3 they had and so I have 3 of them now LOL I guess the universe rewarded me. biggrin.gif

Yeah, I picked up a set at Best Buy for $19.99 myself back in the day. FHC told me about the Half.com, but by the time I found it, they caught on these were selling and jacked up the prices dry.gif

Yeah, I didn't mind this offer either. I bought my set at Walmart for around $30 even though I have all the TNG & DS9 episodes on DVD.

I am still missing a Playmates Worf because I passes over that VHS offer they did and now I regret it. There was no way I was missing out on Tapestry Picard.

I guess it all just boils down to whether or not you think it's worth it. Personally, I wouldn't buy a DVD set for an action figure, but if it was the only way I could get the Refit 1701 that's coming, you'd better bet your last dollar that I would jump all over it. smile.gif

I would have bought the DVD set if it would have been a better figure but I was not to interested in the Picard figure.

You know, you're right. If it had been a TWOK Spock, Uhura or Saavik figure, I probably would have broken down and bought the set. But it was Picard in a very tacky uniform with that really horrendous head sculpt, so I had no problem passing on it.

Was "Tapestry" Picard free with the DVD, or did you still have to shell out $14.99 or so?

Yeah, and I asked DST and they said they're out of the offer for Picard is no longer available either. If the Picard came with the Borg Collective, then I would have jumped on it, but I'm not the biggest fan of Q and I already have half the episodes from that set as I have TNG series already.

I unfortunately didn't know about the figure offer till it was to late.
I was so busy spending all my money on comics I got left behind
with all the Trek figures when they were originally coming out, which is strange since
I was working at a comic store and buying everything else AA was putting out.
I now know better and am trying to stay on top. I'm just excited to go to
San Diego Con in July to get everything Trek that is coming out this summer.
I've already spent so much on figures trying to catch up, so no sense in stopping now.

So...I finally found a good deal on the Q DVD set aaaand the promotion isn't valid anymore? Because time ran out or because they're out of stock? Cause the Elite Serpent Guard was supposed to only last till the end of last year but they extended that since they had so many left I think...

If they're out of stock then...well, excuse me, I must go throw something. tongue.gif

Felt bad making people read about these Galoob Star Trek V guys, so the reward for somebody will be a Tapestry Picard!

Thanks!
