#79266 New York City Toy Fair 2015 Discussion Thread

Posted by Jedigreedo on 17 February 2015 - 03:41 PM

I have to admit I wasn't expecting a new ship, but it was an opportunity to break out the TrekToy Bingo card - and with great results.

Good job, DST. :D  Can't say it's the one I would have liked to see as the second alien ship, but I'm pretty happy with any new ships regardless.  I'm most excited for them getting into TNG tech though, and can't wait to buy the phaser.  I still keep my play-worn Playmates phaser on display for sheer nostalgia.

#77014 2015 Hallmark Ornaments

They didn't have a physical model to show off, but it's part of the cardboard cutout displays for next year.

I'm also looking forward to the Beetlejuice ornament, because nothing says Christmas quite like Michael Keaton as an antagonizing ghoul.

I bet its the NSEA Protector.

:roflmao:

You know, I would LOVE that! :D  DST could do some great stuff with a Galaxy Quest license - and it's the 15th Anniversary this year!

...dang it, made myself feel old.

Very true, it's always nice to see the dormancy end.  That's one reason why I'm glad DST has stuck through the rough tides and gotten their production back in order in the last 3-4 years, keeping a pulse in the Trek collecting community.

I have the recipe for DST's perfect Borg cube:

Take a box.

Put two of the abandoned Alcoves in the box.

Put the abandoned 7 of 9 and the Borg Queen in those alcoves.

Tape up the box.

Write "BORG CUBE" on the box.

Voila. ;)

The one thing to take away from all this is simply that anyone is allowed to voice a complaint or just negative opinion if you have one.  The key, however, is excess and reason.  1701 was just a spiteful little troll who couldn't be made happy by DST because I'm very confident he just complained because he got a natural high from it.  I'll always willingly admit that I had a stint with incessant whining and complaining, but I grew up.  I hoped one day it would come down to him doing the same or leaving, but I'm quite happy it's the latter.

RE: 1701 leaving - he was suspended from Playtrek mailing list not too long ago for abusive & prejudiced behaviour. I even received some horrendous private messages from him here in the past & left the forums for a long time. I'm sure the guy had some good points, but in general he was bad medicine. Wish I could say I'm sorry to see him go, but if you had the displeasure of receiving one of his highly abusive & bigoted private messages...you would understand my feeling of relief.

It's great to see you posting here again, Art!  I never received a PM from him but honestly that doesn't surprise me.  Just from his actions and attitude he ruined my energy for posting here long ago and that's why I've mostly lurked in recent years.  It's been sad that even as DST has been regularly releasing product there hasn't been much joy in discussing it, because he'd inevitably find something to attach to like a leach and milk it until all the energy was sucked out.

I was already looking forward to Toy Fair this month, but even more now. :D

I'd be fine if they wanted to start small with the TNG type 1 phaser - but I'm happy with pretty much any TNG goodness that might come along.

The ST5/6 phaser is easily my most wanted overall though.

You need to reassess the situation.  Zach was not mocking your concerns, he was mocking the ludicrous hyperbole that 1701 profusely vomits over every. single. discussion.

I really want to support this line but silly choices and silly attitudes from Zach are stretching my patience. There are other companies out there who are better at producing good quality Trek stuff and do it without the "you should be grateful we're even doing Star Trek toys" attitude.

Wow, that is some hardcore self-righteous whining right there.  I have to say that I greatly admire Zach for all the nonsense he's put up with ever since he started posting here, I expected him to grow tired of it long ago.  I find it astonishing the worst that has happened is that he's responded to your nonsense with a "silly attitude" when, well, he could just leave and we'd be left with the occasional Q&A.  I'm grateful that anyone from DST gives even an iota of concern about interacting with us here, because most companies don't even bother with fans' input in general.  Yeah, it'd be great if he could spill all the details about every upcoming release and beyond, but he can only say so much and he can only know so much.

The silliest choice here has been you berating him for conclusions that you jumped to all on your lonesome.

#74256 Hallmark collecting

Posted by Jedigreedo on 20 January 2014 - 10:53 PM

I've been collecting Hallmark's Star Trek and Star Wars series since the debut Enterprise in '91 - though that has been long since retired from the tree due to the release of the TOS-1701 that came out a couple years back.  Although I miss all the lights that the '91 one had.  Generally I've stuck to just the ships as far as Trek goes, but I get every single Star Wars ornament that gets released.  So far as far as Trek goes I've only missed the Enterprise-E, Runabout, and the first mini-set that had the TOS-1701, 1701-D, and Klingon BoP.  I also don't have the Kelvin or the Abramsprise, but those are by choice and it looks like I won't be picking up any Trek ornaments this year.

I'm really kind of disappointed with the direction that Hallmark has been taking their Keepsakes which seem to be losing quality despite the rising prices, and the blatant middle finger with con exclusives to those that otherwise have been pretty dedicated to their Keepsakes over the years.  It's even been a family tradition to get the new ornaments in July and October.  But, admittedly, I'm pretty much speaking bitterly since they've had a lot of nice Star Wars ornaments at SDCC that I've been unable to get.  Oh well.

I've also been collecting their Batman, Christmas Vacation, and occasional pop culture ornaments. They have released some nice 1:43-ish scale versions of movie and TV cars.

I'd love to see a TNG Phaser by DST, especially the cobrahead.  Even better if they made a holster for it.  Though I'm most hoping their next phaser is the FF/TUC phaser pistol.

#72611 TrekCore.com article series covering the inception and development of Galoob...

Posted by Jedigreedo on 25 October 2013 - 02:48 PM

That was an awesome read and I'm definitely looking forward to the second part!  It's hard looking at all those scattered pieces of the Romulan and Wesley first shots.  It's like... can you just loan the Romulan pieces to someone who can make casts?  That way nobody has to tear open one of those carded samples floating around. :P

The whole thing really makes me miss Galoob as a company.  I mostly favored them for their Micro-Machines, but they really made a lot of awesome things.  It's great to have a perspective on their branching out, especially since it's been so easy to look at their Trek offerings and think how meager the line was.  I certainly look at the line with more appreciation now knowing how much of a risk and how much work they had to put into it.

#71920 Fully cloaked BoP comic con exclusive

Posted by Jedigreedo on 02 September 2013 - 05:39 PM

I keep hoping to see a picture of what I'd like to do if I had one to open.  I would have a regular version with its wings down suspended from the ceiling over a bookshelf; the AFX "cloaked" version would be on a stand with its wings mid-position; the fully "cloaked" version would be on its landing gear with the wings fully raised.  It would hopefully look like a still-frame transition of going from flight to landed.

#32418 Excelsior starship in fall of 09?

Posted by Jedigreedo on 15 February 2009 - 02:56 AM

That would be completely awesome to see, although I am highly surprised to get Excelsior before Reliant.

Another variant possibility is the U.S.S. Lakota (and justifies Ent-B mods all the more).
