This is still in the works. There was an update in the comments on the DST page during Toy Fair.

So this was posted yesterday:

AskDST:

Hey guys! Any update or timeline on the Star Trek: TNG phaser? I’ve seen some Toy Fair pictures floating around on the internet for a while now, but nothing in the shipping dates blog. Hope everything is going well, the prototypes look awesome!

DSTChuck: We have not actively solicited that item yet, but once you see it in Previews we will be confident in its ship date. An electronic issue we did not expect cropped up late in the development cycle

An unexpected electrical problem? They've made quite a few phasers before, what kind of electrical problem could they have had?

That's just it, it's a one-piece phaser, it shouldn't have an electrical problem! Playmates figured it out. This should be the easiest phaser they have ever made!

Electrical problems don't necessarily have to be design–related. For all we know DST found a batch of bad boards running the electronics and had to replace them. Better they catch an issue before this comes out than after when we've got it in our hands and wonder why it doesn't work. I don't mind the delay as long as the product arrives in a functional form. Now if after being delayed we get something that's a mess, than yes, I'd be kind of cranky if the delay didn't fix the problem. Besides, this delay just pushes the phaser closer to TNG's anniversary, which seems like a good thing to me given that it's a TNG Phaser.

Maybe it actually worked as a phaser?

well... Chuck did say "electronic"... not "electrical"... a minor nit... but it could be the difference between an issue with the sound or a light timing vs an issue with power or general wiring.

Regardless, its good to hear they are still working on it!

Who knows. At this point Id say it was a safe bet that their Star Trek line as we knew it is dead. Id say what or perhaps if we see any new product from them, itll be something packaged and branded completely differently from what weve come to expect from their Star Trek line.

I mean Id say the Reliant, Borg drone and phaser are all pretty much not happening at this point in time.

Guess well have to wait for toy fair to see if DST return with Star Trek in the new year and that those three product are part of the first product in a new lineup.

yep. and we're only 4 months out from starting year 5. If anyone really feels DST is serious in anyway about the Trek License this is all you need to know...

I'm glad they keep pushing out the Phaser, Comms, & Trics for the Trek Tek... and that they reissue ships when the stock is low and demand seems to rise... What we got is great, its fun, I love it, but they should just come clean and admit that they hold the license to re-issue what they have developed and that there just isn't a market for them to develop much of anything new.

Even Roddenberry.com gave up kits and replicas... and just said they have decided to turn into a media collaboration, events entity and to focus on philanthropy. Its a pity because they had some of the best kits out there... but thats the times.

how often does a new ship even come out? every 2 or 3 years now?

Forgot to post yesterday...

Happy 5th Anniversary since the TNG Phaser was shown at NYTF.  And absolutely nothing about it since then.  Well, other than "we're working on it".

At least 6 years in development.  I agree with everyone else, it better actually work like a real phaser after this long...

I've always hoped The Wand Company would have released a TNG era phaser remote, it's the perfect shape for one. The TOS phaser remote is such incredibly high quality.

Shame they never did.
