Just posted this over on the AA forum, popping it up here as well

i had some time in between my Obi-Wan re sculpt, and my Anakin custom head cast, and my Mayweather console... so I repainted my Aragorn figure from Lord of the Rings. The first pic is how it started out (not my photo... I forgot to take one) and the rest are the new ones.

I'm quite happy with it, but that's not to say tomorrow in the daylight I wont decide to try and do something else to it (I'm never happy, lol)

I had to hold it under my desk lamp to take the pics, its dark here now.... so excuse the crappy pics

and finally just because its funny... Aragorn wearing my custom Anakins hair piece, lol

Hehe...very cool Hunky. Aragorns lookin' pretty spunky with that 70's Anakin hairdo!
"I'm here to clean ze swimming pool!" biggrin.gif

That looks a lot better than Sideshows.

They are an interesting company Sideshow....I'm not sure what it is about their product...perhaps too much paint...maybe an attemtp at too much detail...I don't know, but their paint jobs seem 'off' at times.

I only own the Dana Scully & Smoking Man....this is evident there (not in smoking man). Not a bad Scully figure at all, just a little 'off'.

Great work man....keep it coming. smile.gif

yeah I'm resculpting the hair on Obi-Wan, then I'll be casting it so I can offer it if anyone wants it (I think it looks subtly better), then repainting it from scratch.... also resculpting qui gon..... and then redoing the anakin one I did... again, lol

well Aragorn's been finished for a while now (I forgot i posted him here) so here's the update. The first pic is how it looked (someone elses pic) straight out of the box. The clothes had NO weathering at all, the coat looked like it was made out of thick shiny rubber, the bottom edges were cut too straight and didnt look worn.... basically everything looked brand new, and often the wrong colour.

HOW IT USED TO LOOK

I don't even have time to type in everything i did........ I'll just say that I... no wait, hang on... I can copy and paste from another forum... lol stay there a sec

*runs off to another forum*

ok i got it.... smile.gif this is a copy and paste from another forum... but it briefly describes what I did to the figure.... followed by some pics. Enjoy smile.gif

the quick description of what I did is.......

repainted the face (obviously)
sanded the jacket to remove the sheen
painted the jacket with a wash of 'mud' coloured liquid.. just to remove the sheen further
used scalpels/scissors/screwdrivers/drill bits and anything else i could lay my hands on to make the bottom hems of the jacket/sleeves/inner tunic more worn.... more like the prototype we saw
painted the jacket with splashes of mud etc.... dry brushing... flicking... fingers... anything was used
painted the inner tunic with a mixture of black and dark brown, to make it much darker and closer to what we saw on screen
mudded up the boots
painted the inner shirt with a wash of black to make it darker, and look more worn, and sewed the collar together (temporarily with black cotton, to be replaced) to give it the accurate 'buttoned up' look
sewed down one of the collars of the tunic to give it a folded over look
painted the string ties of the tunic with craft glue and hung weights off them to make them 'hang down' like the real string... mine were all over the place and didnt look scale accurate at all
painted the patch on his jacket sleeve black (almost) the light brown was not screen accurate
folded over the back of the tunic, to make it look better fitting at tthe front, and sewed it in place

...and probably other stuff that I can't remember right now...

^^^Maybe, but one thing is for sure, they tend to come in multiple packs! Hunky's cat is eerily similar to mine, and mine has an exact doppleganger living right in the neighbourhood.

....spooky. blink.gif

Anyway, you know i love your work Hunky, and seeing thos pics of your display makes me ever so tempted to hop into the car and drive 3 hours North and rummage about!

Anyway, I love your work Darren....not that your ego needs stroking............ wub.gif
