Bwahahaha... and then she can be all like "Daddy wasn't there for me... so I'll show him and destroy the federation"!

Lol...and then Bob Sagat can come out, sit down on a couch and have a meaningful talk with her about how the events in tonight's episodes effect everyone around her....and also how Aunt Becky is going to jail for paying off colleges. In the background Riker can play the trombone.🤣

All joking aside, even if this show turns out to be a dumpster fire, Im watching no matter what. The inner kid in me from 80's-90's is sooooooooo friggin excited for this show.

I get that. There will be a nostalgia boost to this show that DISCO could never muster.

I haven't heard many peeps out of the Shat about this.

Probably doesn't want to talk about any Star Trek project that suggests maybe he isn't the most popular captain anymore....

My schadenfreude factor is high today.

I can hear the studio execs now. "Picard is a hit! Let's do a Kirk series next!" [Shatner's ears prick up] "Get Chris Pine on the phone!"

lol!

So far the reviews from the premier are overall good. Some seem cautious, which indicates they probably didn't really like the path laid out, but are willing to see where it goes.

So... from what I've read, the production value... acting, etc, is getting universal critical acclaim... so that really doesn't seem to be in dispute.

Most reviewers / fans seem to like it, in fact many are saying it exceeded their expectations which is fantastic! I'm going to guess is about 10% dissenting and not liking the story?

I'm not subbing right now, but based on what I'm hearing I may wait until the bulk of season 1 is out... there are only 10 episodes, its slated to finish end of March, so if I sub for that month I can binge the first 6 episodes and watch the last 4.

I enjoyed it. I'm having friends over every Thursday to watch it together since they don't have All Access. They had no major complaints.

Seems like review ratings are tracking about the same between critics and users alike on several sites.

As with such franchises... most seem to either love it or hate it.

RT is highest with a 94/83

MC gives it a 77/7.4

and IMDB which just tracks user scores gives it a 8.9.

When you look at something like DISCO... the critics gave it decent scores, but the fans just harpooned it... so... thus far... seeing fans closer to critic scores might indicate a bit more validation.

So it seems the events of the pre 2009 film Countdown comics have been undone?

Well it's just so much easier to care about a show and forgive all the other stuff when you have characters you care about. Discovery had to overcome that first and I'm still not sure it did. But when you have Picard there, nobody cares that the office chairs have wheels, we are too busy loving Picard, lol.

What makes you say that, djc? You mean the comic series Countdown? Oh yeah I think I forgot about that entirely but yeah don't they show Data is alive again? I guess the rule about screen canon being the only canon that matters is still in play. Because they are honoring destruction of Romulas but not stuff like that?

They had to stick to the supernova and Romulus being destroyed because of Old Spock in 2009 Trek.

But theyve definitely changed the events that led up to that supernova.

Episode 2 was pretty rough.  That whole scene of exposition with Picard's Romulan friend was awkward as hell and I did not enjoy the phoned-in (GET IT?) technobabble or "ghost in the machine" baloney.

I also do not like whoever thought it would be hilarious to add "does not like Sci-Fi" to Picard's character.

The rest of it was setting of chess pieces but none of the episode sat well at all with the non-trekkie friend who is watching with us.  He had no idea what they were saying or doing, and I even had to re-watch that part I complained about myself too.

I watched the first episode free on YouTube. It seemed so depressing. I love Star Trek that has a bright view of the future, not the dystopian feel of what they have done to Starfleet, the UFP and Earth in this newest show. Not impressed.

Star Trek to me was always about showing humanity as having moved on from how we are today, whilst using the troubles of alien races to highlight problems that are relevant and current to our present day situation. To see this aspect gone (something I dearly loved about Star Trek), makes for painful viewing to me.

I have Apple+, which they were offering for free if you purchased a new device recently, and Ep 1 is up on it so I got to watch it.

so thoughts on EP 1.

Spoiler

My take from being able to watch EP 1?

Its off to better start than DISCO IMO... but I'm glad I dropped the Sub... as I think Kurtzman still doesn't get it... I will eventually watch it though... but it doesn't grab me enough to pay $5.99 / mo for it.
