...and I totally forgot to post the story about our meeting on here!

Me and the family flew down to the FX show in Florida this past April with the specific goal for me and my oldest son (Blaze, 6) to meet Leonard Nimoy. Nimoy is the last surviving main cast member of the original show that I hadn't met, and the first that my son has ever met (since he's just now at the age where that means something to him). So we turned it into a family trip..

So we get in the line...me with Keaton (my 2 year old ) on my shoulders, and Blaze at my side. We get up to Mr. Nimoy, and I'm giving him the usual stuff that he's probably heard a million times (Love the show, so amazed to finally meet you, etc.) and I noticed his attention is focused on Blaze. Nimoy has this kinda puzzled look on his face, so I look at Blaze to see whats up. Blaze hasn't quite mastered the Vulcan hand sign yet so he's trying his best to get his fingers apart to make it work and he is totally focused on making it happen. So I tell Nimoy that "he's trying to give you the salute, but he can't pull it off yet". Nimoy replies "oh, that's okay...it's kinda tough, here's how you do it" and he flashes him the sign back.

So I'm thinking in my head "that was awesome....it can't get better than that". I turn to Blaze and say "Is there anything else you want to say before you go?"

Blaze nods, and turns to Nimoy and says "You're my biggest fan!"

I start laughing, Nimoy starts laughing, and Blaze is standing there with a sheepish grin on his face. I say "I think you got that backwards buddy"... Nimoy gets up out of his seat and says "No, no, he's right! I am his biggest fan. I've been waiting all day for my chance to meet you!" and he grabs Blaze's hand and gives him a hearty shake and says "it's a real honor to meet you!"

So we leave the table, and he waves bye to Blaze and thanks him, and Blaze is literally grinning ear-to-ear. He's probably told that story about 1000 times since then, and it's something he'll probably always remember. I know I'll never forget the look on his face when he got the "star treament" from Leonard Nimoy.

Nimoy. CLASS ACT.

A friend of mine ment Nimoy many years ago. Nimoy was doing a Sherlock Holmes play (he is a big time Sherlock Holmes fan I'm told), and they ended up in a coffee cafee together chatting about Sherlock Holmes for about 3 hours. My friend agrees Nimoy is a class act and a super nice guy.

That's an awesome memory! Makes me want even more to get out to the local con that's being held this weekend (Trek Expo) as Nimoy is only appearing today. Unfortunately, it's far too expensive for even just my Mom (she's a major Trekkie too) and I to get in and get only Nimoy's autograph.
