Roddenberry is offering a TR-590 Mark IX in an edition limited to 1000. It looks to be built based on the eFx edition released a few years ago, so if you missed out on that one and wanted one this might be a good chance to pick it up!

While it certainly looks to be a very nice replica, Roddenberry claims they're going for "affordable" but high-quality prop replicas.  Maybe I'm in the minority, but $499 is not affordable by any stretch of the imagination.

I agree they aren't cheap. But interestingly enough $499 is the same price that eFx charged over 5 years ago, and since everything cost more these days it seems they are trying to keep the price in check.

I do have some Roddenberry replicas, and they are nice, but I wouldn't say they are cheap. In the past they have used the same companies that actually made the props for screen use, and the prices are less then screen used props.

I guess its all relative... if you're making min wage, then this item would take you about 2 weeks, or 80 hours to earn. If you're making the the US household average, then it would take you about 20 hrs or a 1/2 weeks pay.

Good point Data_2006... though I think you had to pay for the holster separate on that edition... so maybe its wash?

I agree about the "affordability" of it.  I'm a "professional" and make pretty decent money, but also have normal life expenses like rent, cars, insurance, gas, etc...there's NO WAY I could spend $500 on a prop, no matter how nice it is!

I think the Wand company has really set a standard with their affordable (IMO) and excellent TOS phaser remote control.  It's going to be hard for me to swallow anyone's "high end" props at prices as high as $500 when it's been proven that pretty high end can be achieved and still not break the bank.

Like I said before, Its all a matter of perspective I guess. I see people that routinely buy Hot Toys figures, and those used to be around $120, but now the average Hot Toys Figure goes for $250, with many approaching the $500 mark. I too am a professional, with normal life expenses, and I'm excited to pick it up. The price, while not irrelevant, I feel is affordable, but I'm not buying it to let kiddies play with it!

I don't have the wand companies remote, but it certainly looks nice, and for $150!

Something that has to be recognized is that this prop really isn't a mass market offering. Typically Roddenberry has them Hand made by the companies that actually made the Hero Props for the show, so there is, typically,  a difference in the build quality.

I have a number of items from Rodd.com as well as Fx, Master Replicas and of course the Trek Tek. Heck I even have some actual screen used props from ENT. Each typically has a different subtle feel to them and I like them all for what they are.

I'll have to get that Phaser too. Love the box it comes in!

If it's anything close to the eFX tric, you're going to go wild when you see and hold it! :D

In regards to the price, one thing to consider is that these will never decrease in value. In fact, I've seen the one I have (Brent Spiner edition) sell for almost double what I paid for it, on eBay.

Well, mine arrived today!

I actually also have the eFX version, and I need to get that one out, but I think the build on this one is a bit tighter!

Otherwise, this one is just like the eFX version. Its a solid hunk of metal with a an incredible paint job.

The decals, lights and sound are all tight and this is true 100% accurate hero prop ready for use in actual productions.

Unlike the eFX version, this one comes with the holster and a roddenberry Trek Insignia Stand... which you had to pay extra for on the eFX version.

All packaging is first rate, all you need is three AAA batteries.

The big debate here, is it worth $500? And I guess that comes down to each individual. I'll suggest that for the quality of the build, that goes into this product, it cost every bit of $350+ simply to manufacture. I say this because its made out of solid metal, and that means the amount of hand machining that goes into each of these is substantial. Then the different elements have to all be inserted wired and connected.

All this lends me to say that if it were offered at $400 it would be an absolute value. So for what you get, I think $500 is a right price point, but clearly its not for everyone.

I'm actually very pleased with mine and it will make a nice addition to my display of other Hero Props!

Here's a quick video of it!

Tested have posted an impressions video today:

Had to have a hold of mine whilst watching this! By the way, they also review other expensive toys on that channel, as well as having Adam Savage show some amazing tips for making models, etc. He's former ILM. :)
