Hmm, yeah - it's enjoyable, but I don't feel they fleshed out the backstory enough. There's no "Point Of View" character, someone through who's eyes we may learn about the world, so there are a lot of instances of unnatural exposition - the mayor's "We all know the story (but I'm gonna tell it anyway)" speech at the beginning was a real clanker.
On the one hand, we're lucky that there wasn't too much of that kind of exposition, but on the other, I don't really know why the races are there, why they're terraforming the Earth, why humans seem to be ok with that... maybe I wasn't paying enough attention?
It's very reminiscent of Terra Nova - a criminal with family thrust into a peaceful colony in the midst of a dynamic and dangerous world full of scary creatures accidentally becomes the local sheriff while a sinister conspiracy within the ranks of the allies plots to destroy everything for some as-yet unclear greater good...
But they're doing it better than Terra Nova did.
Criticisms aside - this shows some promise, and DAMN, it's good to see some sci-fi back on the air!
