Yeah, and the red alert sound is definitely sped up.

I'm pretty sure this is still the paint sample that Zach's been photographing (no pennants on the nacelles), so maybe it's an issue with that particular sound chip. The sound-timing on the first release was a bit of a lucky-dip as well, if I recall correctly. Hopefully the full-time team of QA testers in Hong Kong will catch those issues.

It actually sounds like this might be an issue with the framerate of the video itself. The test was probably shot using NTSC equipment running at approx. 29.97fps*, and edited/saved using a 25fps PAL framerate or 23.976 NTSC "film" framerate. Although audio doesn't have a framerate, the video that it's associated with certainly does, and any of the aforementioned framerate changes between source and output video will almost always result in "chipmunk voices," unless pitch

The only thing is that all the other videos Zach has shot have been fine so I'm not sure why this should be any different other than its a sped-up sound chip.

Well, the video quality is poorer, so it could be a different camera - one he's less familiar with. I don't want to be all "me too", but the video compression was actually my first suspect, too.

Well, Zach's confirmed that the chip in his ship is a little fast, so the video theory has probably just gone out the window. As for the difference in video quality, this is probably the result of the footage effectively being a "night scene." It's very difficult to shoot something at night/in the dark without introducing minor quality issues on a good day and major quality issues on a bad one. (In addition to the cost of such scenes, this is why it's rare to see a lot of outdoor footage at night on scripted TV shows.) Really high

YEah, it's just my Flip video camera. We have a nice still camera, that shoots okay video, but this is just my cheapo one. I have a slightly nicer one I'll try to use in the future, but I don't really process these all. I just upload them to YouTube and Facebook. If I make a mistake, I do another take. No editing, no compression, no nothing.

Re-reading my posts, I'm coming across as a total snob. Use whatever camera you want, man! We're lucky to get any videos.

New video: Saucer Separation test. It's still the same fast-chip no-pennants sample.

Reddit user Defenseman just posted a couple of photos of a recently-recieved duo of D's:

The paint upgrades are lovely, but it looks like those nacelle penants are missing on the production version!

I'd say what you're seeing is the raised detail lines that run either side of the pennants.

Oh, and your mix-and-match AGT D wouldn't be "Perfect" - the phaser modules atop the nacelles would be unpainted!

On the other hand, the nacelle pennant snafu and the legal copy on the saucer make me feel a little bit better about missing this particular reissue.

+1

No need to upgrade now, missing paint on saucer attachments is much easier to fix at home than missing nacelle deltas.

So DST have fixed one set of problems and have instead created others, kind of like a less extreme version of the TWOK Enterprise vs the A, which is a shame. The attention to detail on that new AGT really is a step up from the previous version, just seems a bit of a waste to then have three big deltas missing. Two steps forward, one step back I suppose.
