OMG!! I just watched the entire series (14 episodes) and the movie this past week. All I can say is wow!

I never caught it when it first aired. No good reason, just never watched. A couple years back, though, they (I think Sci-fi Channel) ran a marathon and I watched a couple of episodes and was a little addicted. Well, I forgot about it until recently and decided to buy the series (I had actually bought the movie when it was first released on DVD, but never watched it).

Now, I can't understand how this show never made it passed the 11 aired episodes. The stories are unique, the effects are amazing, and the characters are superb. I never imagined that after a handful of epsiodes and one movie I would be so sad to see some of the character arcs. They make you love them. My favs were Shepherd, Kaylee, Jayne, and Simon ... but they are favorites of a full cast of beloved characters.

If you haven't bothered with this till now ... I say go forth and watch. You won't be disappointed.

FOX is the one that screwed it up. They aired the first 2 part episode out of order and then only showed a little over half of the season without giving it any real advertisement. They basiclay killed it before it got off the ground. But despite that it still has a pretty big fan base. I loved the show and the movie and would love for it to come back in some way or another. To me it is one of the best science fiction shows ever produced.

its a great series and movie for sure. The advertising for this when it first came out was really poor and yes showing the episodes out of order was a bad move as well. I never saw more than a couple of scenes of Firefly until i decided to buy the series dvds after hearing from some other fans about it on another forum. It didnt take long for me to get hooked on it and was glad to see "Serenity". Too bad that fox didnt do a better job of promoting the show, they are almost as bad as UPN was with Enterprise in their treatment of Firefly.

This is definately one of those series that captured my heart. Although my wife and I weren't able to catch this back in the day, we did pick up the series before the movie came out. For anyone looking for a show to watch, with so many shows being cancelled, pick up this show for $19.99 at Target wink.gif I'm sure if you do a little investigating, you might be able to find it even cheaper. But this is still one of my boxed sets that holds it's original $50.00 price tag we paid biggrin.gif

With my signature, is it any wonder where I stand with the show? smile.gif I bought it as a blind buy (well, after reading so much praise about it) awhile back, and after the second episode, fell in love with it. It was sad how it was treated, and how little of the wonderful 'verse we got. I was thrilled when the movie came about. I managed to get about twenty people together to see the film, including a few newcomers.

No matter who I've shown it to, a very skeptical friend, my mom even, they've all landed up if not liking it, loving it. I couldn't recommend any show more than "Firefly".

(now I'm just waiting for Inara's statue to be released wink.gif )

I echo what most of you have already said. However I did watch a few episodes when it first premiered on FOX. I think what turned me off so much was the fact that it started with "The Train" episode. If FOX had aired the series in order, the numbers might have turned out better.

I'm not so sure WC. It seemed at that time Fox helped the show to fail. Remember, they were still smarting when they couldn't convince SMG to move Buffy over to their network. Even though they didn't want anything to do with that or Angel until they were already success stories. So my feeling is the network was already pissed at Whedon before the show kicked off. So it was doomed from the very start and it's unfortunate the movie didn't do very well either, since I would love to see more movies. Between the series and the movie, it's just not enough for this fan.

Oh I have no doubt it would still have been canceled, I just wonder if the ratings would have been higher. But I'm also with you as the series and the movie are NOT enough. I wish there was some way we could bring about the 2nd movie...there's still sooo many unanswered questions and that powerful word, POTENTIAL.

Not to resurrect old threads.....buuuut....i will. Just got done watching all 14 eps and the movie over a three day span and I am glad I did. I cant heap the praise on this show like others and maybe thats because i live in a post Battlestar world, but this is a solid show that I really didnt get bored with. Im sad that they didnt get a little more time to reveal stuff like what was Shepards true job in the past, but at the same time I am glad the show didnt run afoul of the age old problem of having to create too much tv and letting the writing suffer because of it. With this I am left wanting a bit more but am completely satisfied with what I got. Now...does anyone have any good leads on the Mal and Jayne figures made by DST? I may just have to make the rest....

The Mal and Jayne figures pop up from time to time on ebay and Amazon but are pretty rare so they go for anywhere between $60 to $40. I can't wait to see your customs. I may have to order a River from you once you get one made lol

For me it was the excellent laugh out loud writing it had. And the music, kinda a dirty blues acuostic. And of course the acting. My favorite characters are Mal, Jayne, Book, and River. Firefly I think accomplished more in one season, than most shows that get multiple seasons do. Each episode is gripping and engaging. Each , well most at least characters have at least one episode that mostly centers around them. And the ensemble worked well together.

So many quotable instances as well lol

I just got through watching the series and movie again in the past few weeks (only my second time ever). This time I liked the movie more and the series less. I still think both are great at times, but there are a fair number of episodes that bore me. People often talk about this as a series that was cancelled too soon because it was perfect for as long as it was around, but I disagree. Out of the 14 episodes, I'd say only 7 them are really excellent. A few of them just have plots that really drag.

The one thing that's really consistent about every Joss Whedon series (including this one) is solid casting and a top to bottom wonderfully written set of characters. Every character is beautifully developed and played by someone who seems born to play their role. Just a fantastic set of actors and characters. The plots aren't flawless, though. Watching the movie for only the second time ever, I really feel it's a perfect way to end the franchise and fans wishing for a sequel don't know what's good for them. The final scene of the movie left it a bit open-ended for sequels, but I think we're better off without any.
