I'm not opposed to gore and even some more harsh language. I think there is plenty of room to tell a darker R rated story. Space can't always be fun and diplomatic. but.... I've never been a huge fan of the over the top Tarantino stuff. Some of his movies are good but some can get out of hand fast with gallons of blood spraying everywhere. I guess we will have to wait and see. I'll watch it if it happens.

A Trek novel came to mind ("Enterprise"?) where some bad guys had been fighting inside a ship's gymnasium in zero-G. They ended up frozen after the room had been exposed to space somehow. Anyway, after the battle, one of the good guys outside of the room restored the environment and turned the gravity back on before opening the door, causing a colleague to blurt out, "NO, NOT YET!" The frozen bodies fell to the floor, shattering. One guy turned to the other and said, "Guess we'd better sweep this up before they thaw out."

That's the kind of scene I'm okay with. My imagination will always be gory enough to fill in any blanks.

Typically QT uses gore as tool in his story telling.. and thus only when he thinks its needed or appropriate. In Django Unchained it was over the top on purpose. but in most other films he's pretty selective I think... Pulp Fiction for example... wasn't that gory except for "The Bonnie Situation"... which admittedly was gory, but again it had a purpose from a character development aspect.

Star Trek has already had some pretty disturbing scenes in it, adding a bit more gore to those same style scenes wouldnt make anything less Trek.

The woman merging with the floor in that TNG episode, the transporter accident in TMP, the face stretching in Insurrection, the ear thing in TWOK...

As long as it contributes to the story, and isnt just gore for the sake of gore I dont have a problem with it.

I'd just like it to be appropriate to Star Trek. Find a unique way of defeating an enemy using a holodeck or the transporter. Beam half of a foe into space while the rest drops to the transporter pad like a barrel of fresh meat. Or just the head. Be creative. Have fun.

Can see it now. Phasers only vaporizing half an alien while tons of green blood sprays all over Kirk.

KIRK: What the fu--? SPOCK!

SPOCK: [reading his tricorder] According to my readings, Captain, when we beamed down our phaser settings were -- altered by a stray tachyon particle field.

KIRK: Tachyons?!

SCOTTY: Damned tachyons. I've no use f'r 'em! Pesky little gremlins.

SPOCK: In any event, we should expect similarly troublesome results until I or Commander Scott can find a solution.

SULU: Fuck that. I'm using my saber.

Whats the hateful eight mini series?  Did they just break up the movie? or is it really a spin off?

I haven't even seen the original yet, lol.  Maybe I should start with the miniseries?

I'm still wary of what Tarantino thinks "adult themed Star Trek" should be...  is it going to be a captain saying F*** all the time?  A longer shot of Kirk with a green woman, maybe with some side-boob (if not fully bared)?  For as long as I've watched Star Trek it already has been adult-themed, it just hasn't been unnecessarily gratuitous.

To be fair... QT really likes dialog. Admittedly its often over the top... but typically thats to make a point as many (most?) of his films subject are dealing with violent criminals of some type... and Inglourous Basterds is technically a WWII movie. But yeah... most of his work includes a salty vocab and over-the-top violence.

I just don't see it happening if only for the reason that they probably can't round up the JJverse cast again no matter how good the script is. So it may have to be with completely new characters, if at all.

Yeah... between 19-24 min mark is any discussion on trek... some notable quotes by QT...

I still don't quite understand... and JJ can't explain it to me... something happened in the 1st movie that kinda wiped the slate clean... I don't buy that... I don't like it... I don't appreciate it... f#$k that.

Benedict Cumberbatch is not Khan.. Khan is Kahn... I told JJ I don't understand this... I don't like it... [I'll] ignore it... nobody likes it... I don't understand it... [so I'll] do whatever [I] want... if [I] want it to happen the same way it happened on the series [I'll] do that.

and he was saying this in the context that he would honor the original material and is a fn of all things Shatner.

Willam Shatner as James T Kirk is my connection... [That's why I like Star Trek].

Which is a sentiment that you heard from so many long time fans.

The reason I was intrigued by the JJ version of [Star Trek] is because I thought Chris Pine did a fantastic job not just playing Kirk, but playing Shatner's Kirk. He's Shanters Kirk... and Quinto is literally Nimoy's Spock... and they just nailed it.

This I agreed with... I may not have liked many of the story line aspects, but Pine and Quinto did nail it.

Based on these statements ... I think QT has what I'd consider an old school fans perspective... and I suspect that what we'd get is something fantastic like the Wrath of Kahn where he'd go and find some bit of "unfinished" story that could be shoehorned nicely in to the original series timeline.

So yeah thats very intriguing!

Haha, just as I expected Tarantino has a better grasp of storytelling and characters than these VFX-obsessed dweebs who had to read Memory Alpha articles to get in shape to write dialogue & then just drove the series into the ground.
