Off-Topic; though I'm not really fond of them, I can at least see the appeal of funko-pops. But minimantes? Bah. Minimates must be the most ugly toys I've ever seen.

Trailer for the second season:

The trailer had me grinning from ear to ear. Can't wait for the show to return! :)

What would be hilarious is if time travel became the method Paramount uses to recast roles. "Hey, Chekov! You're looking... huskier."

I have had my fill of time travel and parallel universes and doppelgangers. I really hope the writers leave these tropes alone for a while. Need a new "chekov"? Bring back Jaylah. She earned it. :)

I vividly remember seeing the Enterprise-Figures in a store many many moons ago. I also vividly remember not buying a single one, because I thought they had no leg-articulation. So, yeah, they really should have made that a lot clearer. (Then again, due to the rubber, the articulation is kinda useless anyway). It was a creative Idea, but... hiding the joints, is, in my mind, unnecessary. I'd rather have a good articulation than an unbroken sculpt. They are action figures. Not statues.

So... the people who nurtured the narrative that some fans were toxic and abusive were, behind the scenes, toxic and abusive?

#93800 Prototypes

I'm not too sad about the Kazon fighter being dropped. It's a nice ship (now that I look at it - it reminds me a bit of Captain Protons rocket ship :D) but the Kazon never really worked and I was glad when Voyager left them behind. Still, it's cool seeing all these What-Ifs.

Here is a picture of the prototype and the "exclusive" kazon figure:

Looks like the released Kazon figure, just with a beard and different colors. (If they would have changed his skin color as well, he would have looked like a decent Maaj Jabin)

Maybe they got something horribly wrong and instead of building a toy they are building this thing life-sized. *shrugs*

Whenever you think that Playmates was already firing on all cylinders, something like this shows up. Man, they really had a ball, right? This is just awesome stuff. I know they planned and dropped a Kazon fighter and a turbolift for the Enterprise-D Bridge, but this? This is all new to me.

The phaser rifle looks awesome and I'm sure it would have done well in retail. The LAARP stuff is still pretty popular. The Galor class... okay, I can see, why they dropped that. I would have bought it - I really love the design - even more so than the Warbird or the Vor'Cha.

Thanks a lot for digging so deep and showing these little gems, Morgan. I rarely use Like-Buttons, but... have a like. :)

There never was a prototype/picture of the Ops, was there?

#93705 Star Trek 4 (14)

I for one am a bit sick of time travel or parallel universes (or Borg or Klingons or Section 31...). If they have to bring back George Kirk, I'd like it/him to be something entirely different, like in the Movie "Contact", when Ellie met her "Dad" at the end. But I guess that's wishful thinking. It's all about names and gimmicks now :/

#93690 Toys R Us stores closing down

Posted by Damon1984 on 04 April 2018 - 05:35 AM

To be honest, it was somewhat down to the weak sales of Star Wars toys that contributed to the closure of Toys R Us.

The sad fact is; kids arent playing with toys in the same numbers as most of us were playing with toys back in the 90s. The rise in popularity of the video game and VR and interactivity etc... has really crushed the toy industry.

No. They fell victim to the american financial industry. Toys R Us had a horribly debt-laden leveraged buyout by Bain Capital, KKR & Co and VRT in the 90s because the stock prices fell for a while and there was no way for them to ever repay that - even though they were - to this day - really good at selling toys.
