Howdy all,

A fellow is going to send me the 6" console figures.

If I remember correctly (& I rarely do!) people did not seem to like Sisko's articulation.

Am I correct in thinking he cannot stand up properly?

Also the 7" Space Talk figures. How good were the voices on these things? Did the figures sport all the articulation of the smaller figures?
If anyone could take a nice pic of Picard & Q fencing...I would be very grateful. smile.gif

Voices? Not bad.
Movement? Not as great
Coolness? Fairly high

You're right, Sisko (decent likeness) could not stand up properly. And although I believe I got the 2nd issue version of him, his arms only rotate at the shoulder. The Dax (horrible likeness) and O'Brien (pretty good likeness) figures had the same articulation as the First Contact TNG figures (which weren't bad).

The Q vs. Picard fencers weren't really worth the money IMHO. I got them as part of a large lot off of ebay a few years back, and I doubt I would have bought them outright had I not aquired them this way.

Cheers all.

Sisko is designed to sit fairly well, not tand well. His chair however, is IMO the best accessory of that set. The cardassian is quite poorly designed, and I do not know why they could not have given us Dukat, Damar, etc.

Come to think of it was there ever a Damar figure in any size released?

And really, it is Sisko with chair...so it is more important he can sit than stand. Still seems like an odd choice. Were these made before or after the First Contact line? as it would have been much easier to use a regular body than make a new one.

Does he sit nicely...or is he still spreading for the world?

What kind of chair did Dax have on the Defiant? could I use a Sisko chair for her as well? Shame she did not come with a seat.

No Damar figures....ever...(not sure about Innerspace) but then, we never saw Kai Winn either. Though Damar only needed a new head.
The Dukat figure doesn't really resemble Alaimo, not like the 9" version which is one of my fave 9"ers. A Damar 9" would have been heaven. So perhaps the console Cardassian started out with someone like Damar in mind, but was altered (in name) to ge generic due to lack of resemblance. Thats very doubtful! biggrin.gif but just a thought.

Reminds me of the Kazon...why not simply make Maj Cullah instead of a generic version?? Perhaps there wasn't enough resemblance...

No...no I don't think I buy the 'changed due to lack of resemblance' thing...

I guess it was just easier to make a generic version. Did Playmates have to seek any actor approval for these figures? Or did we say it depended on the actor? That could have helped the decision to make randoms instead of actual people.

I remember people saying Levar Burton did not approve his 4.5" Insurrection figure...that was a shame. I'll have to customise one at some point.

I was unpacking a few boxes last week and found my 6" DS9 figures and though I liked them, I wasn't going to display them in my new place.

But I LOVED their consoles (O'Brien's and Dax's) so I have them displayed with my DST figures. Not too bad in the size difference, but not perfect either. Give my figures something to do instead of just standing around. Geordi and Data are working on O'Brien's station while Troi and Barclay are playing around with the Ops/Conn panel. Sadly, Riker and Worf are stuck standing guard while Picard just looks around.

They were made after I believe, although in terms of hitting the shelves I think they hit at relatively the same time for most places. And yes, the DAX body is the same as Trois'. The O'Brien body I believe was a completely new sculpt...although his core and legs COULD have been reuses with different paint apps to the collar, his forarms were DEFINATELY not (they were rolled up in the traditional O'Brien look).

And yes, Sisko sits nicely as his legs are not the same as the other figures. Meaning the only point of articulation was at the hip. Same with his arms. It was like all he COULD do was sit in the chair. Granted, as I said in my previous post that I believe I got the second release version (based on seriel number), so I don't know if there was a difference from the first release (there didn't seem to be for Dax and O'Brien, but you never know). I will agree with Shinzon that it is one of THE best accessories especially since (unlike the consols with the other figures) it is made entirely out of plastic.

Well the chair itself was similar to Siskos, however Sisko's has arm rests. So from a customising viewpoint you could take a Sisko chair and cut off the armrest and sand it down and repaint so you couldn't see the cut points. But yes, it was a shame that they didn't realease other playset pieces including chairs. sad.gif

You hit the nail on the head there Sam! Actually most of the sculpting was done based on "screen test" shots provided by Paramount. These in turn were actually members of the Trek production staff (in many cases stunt doubles or makeup personelle themselves) who were used by Westmore's staff to seek approval from the suits for production. The final approval photos were then sent to Playmates' sculpters. And since this was a picture of crew member or a non-credited actor, there was no legal red tape to go through in terms of actor approval....only suits approval.

FUN FACT: The pictures on Odo's office wall that looked like "Wanted" pictures were actually members of the DS9 cast and crew dressed up in Westmore makeup.

Very cool! I'll have to watch out for that.

Were the fencing action Picard & Q figures worth buying?

^Well, they were an interesting novelty item. And it was the only version of Q in that particular outfit. But honestly they were nothing special...the same for action slashing Worf.
