I actually Give pretty high marks to ROTS... mostly because it pretty much gets to the point of the prequels I think... I still think if they had cut the filler scenes... like the pod race and other putzing around in both TPM and AOTC... you could have made that one pretty good story... then Episode II should have been the actual clone wars, and finally ROTS... as we saw through the cartoon clone wars leading into ROTS, palatine needs to really soften Ankin up and get him ready to turn, and does it in very subtle ways! I found that to be more compelling then any of the taboo... Jar Jar stuff etc,..

If you take out all the redundant stuff in both trilogies, I'm convinced the saga could get whittled down to two 3-hour movies. There's so much duplication that it would be easy to edit it now that we know where it's going. Like I often say, Star Wars is a great story poorly told.
As for Rose & Finn's side quest, I thought it was pointless, too, until I saw that stable boy at the end. I'm pretty sure this is the beginning of Rian Johnson's trilogy.

The prequels taught me to manage my expectations. I'm much happier with the sequel trilogy because of it. Then again I didn't have 16 years to think about what I wanted to see in a sequel trilogy. I was focused on what Episodes I, II, and III might look like.
