#97220 Super7 Debuts STAR TREK: TNG 3.75″ ReAction Figure Line

Posted by bgiles73 on 27 April 2021 - 08:28 PM

I hope Super7 has a successful run with these! I preordered two sets and will probably do so for each wave. I hope Super7 will re-do the earlier Funko line with the big heads. Super7s Reaction figures have always been a better quality than the Funko ones. I think this is going to be a fun line to collect and display.

Well Super7 announced on their Instagram and Twitter page that they will be announcing new licenses starting next Monday. One of those licenses is clearly for Star Trek! Hopefully this will be for both Reaction and Ultimates. Whatever they do its sure to be good.

#97087 Star Trek Action Figures 2021?

Posted by bgiles73 on 03 November 2020 - 08:26 PM

Ok so Star Trek is celebrating its 55th in 2021. The franchise had barely a mention for its 50th Anniversary but has since gone on to have a slight rise in presence on peoples televisions and devices thanks to CBSs streaming service. An action figure line was announced by McFarlane Toys and as expected failed to get past the initial wave of two figures. All the while Star Trek has been continuing to add to its legacy and build a diverse audience. Add to that the separation of CBS and Paramount coming to an end as these two companies once again merge back into a single entity.

Is the time for a successful Star Trek Action Figure line back upon us? In a recent Tweet from J. Van Citters, CBS brand manager for Star Trek hinted that 2021 - Star Treks 55th Anniversary would be a great year for those of us wanting to see a return of good things from Star Trek. This tweet was in response to questions about the 90s run of Playmatess Star Trek toyline. In following other similar leads I got a cryptic reply to a question I posed to Super7s Brian Flynn about a possible follow up to Funkos attempt at Star Trek Reaction Figures. He joked that Ive been looking over his shoulder at his homework!

But back to that thought of Super7, their Reaction Figures are 1000 times better than Funkos, that would be a very nice inclusion to Star Treks catalog of product and if Star Trek turns up in the Reaction Line, surely Star Trek Ultimates wouldnt be far behind! Ultimates is a made to order line that so far includes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats, Conan the Barbarian, The Toxic Crusader and Walt Disney. I would imagine that if enough people were to get behind it we could truly get some awesome figures that we otherwise might not! What does everyone else here think? Im not saying these will by any chance be cheap, but lines backed solely by the fan base seldom are.

I have Super7s Comic Book Conan and it is a most impressive figure. I am currently waiting for the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie versions which I have on preorder. I have been very impressed with their TMNT and Thundercats offerings as well as their latest Reaction Figures. I think Star Trek would thrive with such a line. Im just not sure if Ships and role play would be something they would do.

#97053 Should Playmates make a Star Trek: Lower Decks line?

Posted by bgiles73 on 28 September 2020 - 05:15 PM

Im not reading anything about TMNT I still collect Playmates TMNT and Ben 10 as well as Godzilla Vs Kong. I happen to like the glossy cartoony look and I find that they have improved upon the articulation without abandoning their overall style in designing toys. Maybe its personal tastes, but I would seriously love to see a return of Playmates Toys Star Trek. Im aware that NECA and Super7 are both killing it with their own versions of TMNT and I have no resistance to that! So much the better that I have other options for what I want to collect. I hope Star Trek can once again enjoy that level of popularity. Retro Style toys are seeing a comeback Star Wars (Kenner molds), Ghostbusters, Masters of the Universe Origins (Mattel molds new articulation), Mego and several others. I see no reason Playmates Toys Star Trek should be left out, especially when so many have been tooled and would benefit from minimal articulation tweaks.

Six episodes in and this show seems to be pretty well liked. My kids have sat through some of the episodes and have shown more interest in these cartoon episodes than any of the other Star Trek shows before. Over on thefwoosh.com they are now discussing Star Trek action figure possibilities with more enthusiasm. No announcements about toys for Star Trek Day but Lead Product man at CBS J Van Citters tweeted that big plans were coming for Star Treks 55th Anniversary next year.

Did anyone else notice what looked to be a silhouette of a three-legged alien coming out of a turbolift? Could this be the same species as Arex? This was in the Season Trailer at the end of the episode. Just one episode in and I see so much potential for a new toy line that just might get us back to where Star Trek was in the 90s! I only hope the other animated series coming to Nickelodeon will be as good. Lower Decks is exactly the boost Star Trek needed to engage a new generation of Trekkies. It definitely throws bait out there for teenaged fans to explore whats come before without bogging them down in too much of a history lesson. Its also no dumbed down into nonsense or techno-babble. Its fast paced flash cards of nostalgia. I hope there will be a multi platform video game as well.

Trust me I know Hasbro isnt hurting as much as they say, but just like Star Trek if you want ships you are going to have to pay a premium. QMX and Eaglemoss seems to be our only options right now. Im wanting Star Trek Micromachines. I dont even care if they are blind packed! I want some action figures in the $6-$10 range. Thats still a possibility just not one they are actively pursuing. Playmates is making TMNT and Ben 10. I believe that Lower Decks would be a great shot at getting Star Trek back under their belt. Walmart at this moment is bringing back exclusive classic style Ghostbusters, Masters of the Universe, Star Wars and other lines. Could be a really good time to get Star Trek by Playmates back too.

Rick an Morty has a pretty good following. Some of those kids might come over to check it out and realize that Dtar Trek has a lot more to offer. The show cross-referenced Dungeons & Dragons (Stanger Things did too) and pulled a new generation of Dungeons & Dragons gamers in. Rick and Morty popularity also influenced McDonalds to bring back Szechaun Sauce for a limited time for Chicken McNuggets. This new cartoon could potentially draw in a large following. Such a thing could give a boost to other Star Trek product. Personally Id like to see Playmates be the company to improve old lines and fill in those spaces where opportunities were missed the first go round. Do it in the 4.5 scale so you dont have to completely reinvent the wheel. With slight articulation tweeks many of those 90s figures would do well again. Im sure that Voyager ship would certainly be welcome again with improvements in LEDs.

I cant say I ever collected anything in the hope of striking it rich. Ive had a couple of collectibles that reached significant value but nothing that I ever cared to part with. Everything I collect is tied into memories of a movie or show that I like or tied into shared moments with family and friends.

I would not rule out Mattel as a possible fit for Star Trek. It was announced that they have the license for Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick recently and with the loss of DC Comics license, Star Trek would probably be a good fit. Playmates would be my first choice if I was cashing in on a wish. With the characters that have already been done by them they could really cover a lot and give us the most extensive coverage of the property. Just a few tweaks to articulation and changing sticker applications to paint tempos on starship registries and markings could really enhance what was done before.

Ill go all out xeno and say I hope we get a figure of a Tholian as seen in the two part Mirror Universe episode of Enterprise. Im sure McFarlane Toys would do something truly spectacular for such a figure.

I got these from Amazon and Im very impressed. Best likeness ever on both Kirk and Picard. My Picard has a slightly lazy left eye but nowhere near Hasbro deficiency level. I plan to pick up a few more when they are in the wild. My desk at work is just calling for it! I cant wait to see what else is in store for us as this line progresses.

MisterPL thats what I was meaning about the size difference. Picard and Kirk are both 510. I expect that Worf and Riker will be the same height as Hopper. I expect that Jeffrey Combs character and Sulu should be the size of the Destiny character I have. I like that height variation is addressed.
