Sad news for all of us... Hopefully DST will continue to produce great products despite this bad news.

I did a McCoy from an extra Spock. Just pop the head off and you're good to go. TrekMovie's story indicated they'll still get the extra bridge parts out though.

So the heads just pop off without heating them up in water or anything? I would hate to break a figure just to find that out the hard way. If you exchange the heads between cadet McCoy and Spock, you would have cadet Spock. Spock wore an insstructor uniform in the movie, but a cadet Spock would still be a neat variant to have.

I've seen the movie four times now, Once in the theater , and three times at home , and I've only seen Chekov in his bridge uniform, he may be in the crowd during the Kobyashi Maru Hearing but I haven't taken the time to pause the movie and scan every face in the crowd though . Welp , until we get these figures I gues we'll have to customise our own .

I didn't need to heat the figures up to swap the heads on my figures. You can stick them in hot water for 30 seconds if you like though. I heated them the first time to loosen the tight leg joints on a couple figures and swapped the heads while they were still hot. But I've also been able to swap the heads at room temperature.
I'd rather see off-duty Kirk (black shirt) bundled with the rest of the bridge pieces since that's what he wore for most of the film. McCoy and Chekov would be nice but you can at least make them yourselves easily, unlike off-duty Kirk.

You might be able to use nail polish remover to take the sleeve braids off Chekov. I haven't tried it on Trek figures but it's worked on other figures in the past.

Chekov (and Sulu) are both seen in cadet uniforms when Kirk is promoted to captain at the end of the film; they're standing next to Dr. McCoy.
As far as this cancellation news goes, well...
Kirk: Well, that's just...lovely!
Spock: But, not entirely unexpected.

I'd have to agree. But this is why I was afraid for a successful movie. I don't want to downgrade the quality of the movie or the enjoyment most of us got from watching it (it WAS a good movie)...but it was a flash-in-the-pan type of movie in terms of the franchise. It didn't add anything to the existing franchise except maybe to rekindle some nostalgia in TOS.
